Er, where's the rain? Day 9 (26/8) - The one with the spider meltdown (Epcot & DTD)
We were up good time today and, after breakfast of the fruit from the day before, we arrived at Epcot at 9am.
We had a FP for Soarin today so the plan was to head to Test Track first, when hopefully the queue would be a bit shorter. Ffion however had other ideas and decided we had to do Spaceship Earth first or it would completely ruin her day. I could tell that Ffi was starting to get really tried, so, even though Georgina was decidedly unimpressed, we went with Ffion's plan. SE was a walk on and we had an enjoyable meander through the centuries. Ffion and I ended up living by the sea with our bicycles, which Rob and George thought was hilarious as I haven't ridden a bike since I was about 12 When we got off the ride we headed to Test Track for Rob to realise he must have left his hat on SE. So back in we went. Luckily they had already found it, so we just had to describe it - "it's black" "any other distinguishing features?" "Er no, it's just black" and we were soon on our way again to Test Track with said hat. It became a bit of a joke then that after every ride one of the girls would ask if Rob had his black hat. This comes back to haunt Ffion later in the holiday Test Track had a queue of 25 mins which we didn't think was too bad. It was quite interesting to look at the stuff in the queue as it had all changed since the last time we rode it. The family in front of us had a little boy of about 4 who was playing on his tablet, but he kept concentrating on it so much that every time his family moved he didn't realise. So we were then left to sort of shuffle forward without banging into him. But his mum and dad didn't ever tell him to move. It was all a bit awkward really Georgina isn't particularly tolerant of people at the best of times, so she was getting a bit annoyed. Luckily we got to the front of the queue fairly quickly, before George exploded completely Rob and Georgina made a car, and Ffion and I made one. We went for efficiency while the other 2 went for power. It was good fun, and really added an extra dimension to the ride, especially when it compares all the cars at the same time. I kept my glasses on for the ride which was fine, although Georgina was convinced they would fly off when we got to the speed bit. It didn't feel as fast as before, but I'm sure it must have been. Next up was something that we never got round to visiting on our last trip - Club Cool. We had fun trying all the different flavours. I managed to fool both Rob and Ffion with the Beverley, but Georgina sussed that it maybe wasn't as nice as I was making it out to be Suitably refreshed we had about 30mins until our Maelstrom FP so, after discussion, we let Georgina pick seeing as Ffion had got to ride SE. I don't know really why we bothered asking George which ride so she wanted to do, as we all knew the answer already - Journey into Imagination with Figment. She is obsessed with Figment, and seems to have a weird thing about lame rides. Anyway, we all trooped in. Felt a bit sad when we went past Robin Williams' picture on the wall. So after the annoying figment had blasted us with skunk smells and shown us his hilarious upside down house, we made our way to Norway to ride Maelstrom. We didn't know it at the time, but this was to be the last time we would ever ride it We got a bit wetter than I was expecting, but I think were just unlucky as we were at the front. When we got to the cinema bit Rob sat down to watch the film. Honestly - just shows that he doesn't listen to anything I tell him Ffion and I kept going and had a look around the shop while we waited for them to come out. They were funny when they finally appeared, Rob thoroughly confused about what he had just sat through. Everyone was starting to get hungry so I had a quick look at the Mexican QS menu on offer. I actually thought it sounded quite nice, but the other 3 weren't keen. So we decided to head back to Electric Umbrella, visiting the 3 cabrellaros on the way. There was no queue (can't think why) so we got a boat all to ourselves. It's a funny little ride, not really sure what the point of it is. But it was a chance to get out of the heat, and have a sit down. Electric Umbrella was pretty busy but we were directed to a queue with only 1 person in front of us - yay. We sent the girls upstairs to find us a table as we wouldn't be long. Wrong Unfortunately the 1 person in front of us had every food allergy going. She didn't seem to have looked at the menu at all before she started ordering, so didn't know what the options were, let alone if they had any of the products in it that she couldn't eat. It must be awful to be restricted like that, but if that was me I would have researched before what options were available. Anyway, we eventually were able to order - I had the vegetarian flatbread, Rob Caesar salad and the girls both had chicken nuggets. For dessert we had a chocolate brownie, a strawberry cheesecake and 2 fruit cups. I think we ended up sharing the cheesecake and took the rest of it with us, as all too full. Ellen's Energy Adventure was next on the list. It's not a bad ride, but gets a bit boring in the middle. For some reason I'd completely mixed this up in my head with The Great Movie Ride and was convinced that I was going to see Mary Poppins at one point Wishful thinking. It was now time for our 2nd FP - Figment again. Oh joy. It was a slightly longer queue this time so our FP did save a bit of queuing. To be honest though, FP in Epcot is a bit wasted really, as the queues are really only at Soarin and Test Track and you can only select one of them because of the tiers. After we had escaped Figment we went to see if we could find Nemo. There was a 10 minute queue posted, but it's not really a queue. That's just how long it takes you to walk through the winding path to the ride. I do like this ride. I know it's quite simple, but I like it at the end when you have the real fish, and the Pixar fish. We stayed and had a look at the aquarium after. I had a very close up, and freaky experience with one of the huge rays that was swimming around. It swam right up to the window in front of me and then swam up to the surface but so that he was horizontal to the window. So could see the whole of the underside of him. Very strange experience. He was huge too - about a metre in length. And where was Rob with the video camera? Further down recording some boring little fish swimming by. Completely missed my ray adventure Georgina was in 2 minds whether to buy a cuddly seagull (which is a bit ironic really as the seagulls at home are a noisy pain in the bum, and could never be described as cuddly) but in the end decided to buy the "mine mine" luggage tag which she has hung on her bedroom door. Now it was time for Soarin - yay. We had all been looking forward to this one. The actual queue was 65 mins so really pleased to have the FP. We were really lucky and got the front row, so no dangly feet on view for us. Really enjoyed it - yes it could do with a bit of a clean up, but still a great experience. When we came out there was no queue for Living with the Land so we had a nice mosey through the green houses. After that, Ffion was starting to flag so we decided to go back to the room for a bit of a rest, and then go back to DTD and go to DisneyQuest. We could then grab some food from Earl Of Sandwich on the way back. So that was our new plan. We could look at World Showcase and catch IllumiNations on Saturday instead. We didn't have to wait long for a bus back to POFQ and then we chilled out in the room for about an hour or so. Finally managed to face time with Mum, and showed her around our room, and the resort a bit. She was really excited to see us all, and where we were staying The boat for DTD arrived just as we got to the boat stop so that was good timing. This time we headed straight to DisneyQuest, no shopping today. It's a bit disorientating at DTD with all the hoarding up, but we got there in the end. First up was the POTC ride. Ffion was captain and in charge of steering the boat - she was hopeless It was so funny though, and we did manage to destroy the ghost ship in the end and kept our treasure arghhh. Then we had a go on the Jungle Cruise and were all hopeless on that. We ended up following the most treacherous route as we just couldn't steer it at all. I think we just laughed from start to finish, we were that bad. We made our way up to the top floor trying different games as we went. We have discovered that Ffion is a secret Pinball Wizzard, and I realised that all the PacMan skills that I used to have are no more We had a enjoyable few hours in DisneyQuest but I think that was probably enough. It's quite loud in there. We headed back to Market Place and found Earl of Sandwich. Everyone was feeling quite tired, Ffion especially, so we decided we would take the food back to the room with us to eat. I had the Hawaiin BBQ, Rob and George had tuna melt, and Ffion had the Kids grilled cheese. We all had the fruit jelly pots for dessert, and coke to drink. Then we made our way to the boat stop. We just missed the first boat, but could see the next one waiting to come in and dock so knew we wouldn't have to wait too long. It was then that Ffion noticed the huge spider in his web in the roof bit above our head I have to admit it was a big spider, but he was way up in the ceiling, and not moving. But she went on and on. So by now everyone else around us in the queue is looking up at this spider, and Ffion is not now the only worried looking person. Luckily the boat has now docked so we quickly board and grab the seats at the front (so Rob and George are facing forward, and Ffion and I are sat facing everyone on the boat). We are just leaving the dock when Ffion notices a spider on the side of the boat next to me. It's only small, but she immediately decides she has to get off the boat. Well we are by now nowhere near the dock, and still have about 10 mins of the journey left. We got her to swap seats with George but now her eyes were darting everywhere looking for more spiders. Plus the people behind had also noticed a spider and were talking about that, which she could hear So Ffion was sat there in tears with her hands over her ears so that she couldn't hear the others talking. I can only really describe it as a panic attack. I think she was just so tired that she couldn't think straight. She doesn't like spiders, but she's never had a reaction like that before. Finally we get to POFQ and as soon as she is off the boat it's like a changed child - much happier. Was a horrible experience though, and I'm sure anyone on the boat with us must have wondered what on earth was going on. We went back to the room and ate our EoS picnic, which was all very yummy. Rob and I decided that tomorrow we would just let Ffion sleep in until she woke up, and that we would just have a very easy going day. Originally we were going to BB and Animal Kingdom, but we scrapped this and decided to just see what we felt like doing once everyone was up. I cancelled the AK FPs on the iPad, and made some tentative ones for MK just in case. So off plan tomorrow

Another great day except for the spiders! Glad she recovered quickly when she got off the boat though.
I am so delighted to hear you can get a cuddly seagull, I didn't have a list of anything I wanted to buy in Orlando until now! |

Thanks - I was relieved that Ffi seemed to get over it so quickly, although she did spend the remainder of the holiday looking for spiders
Ha ha the cuddly seagull - bit of an oxymoron really

Poor Rob standing patiently with the video camera only for you to be on the other track! Hope Ffion was feeling better after a lie in the next morning, it really does just take a certain tiredness level to make something that would usually make you feel uncomfortable really send you over the edge!

Disney Quest sounds a great way to spend an afternoon. Don't often hear that much about it.
