Talking Disneyland Bounders Sept 14 - Travel Day

So, after being wide awake since about 5 (due to sheer excitement and nerves!) I got up at about 7 with Ross. We kissed goodbye and I waved him off to work and wondered just how much xbox was going to be played this week!

Oliver was up too, he had some breakfast while I finished his autograph book. At about 9am Mum arrived with all her bags and I decided his book was as finished as it was going to be so but all my crafty bits and bobs away!

I put Monsters University on for Oliver to keep him occupied while we got sorted, it distracts me far too much though!

Gen turned up at about half 9 with some awesome news... her car boot was broken! Brill! This meant that to get all of our bags in and out we would need to fold down the back seats and shove them in! Hours of fun!

Anyways, I got dressed and make-uped etc etc while Mum and Gen got Oliver dressed (not make-uped though, Ross doesn’t like that).
At 11 we decided it was probably time to get going, this was the time that I decided my case wasn’t big enough! Cue me going up to the loft, finding the biggest case I owned and lugging it down stairs! I threw everything from one case to the other and decided it looked pretty sad since it was only about a third full BUT we all know what the Disney gift shops are like so it was no doubt a good thing!

We finally got going shortly after 11 and after a quick pit stop at Sainsburys for fuel we were soon on the motorway. The first half of the journey was pretty quiet, only exciting thing to happen was a caravan just in front of up blew a tyre! It literally exploded and the thing was rolling on metal. Thinking about it now it could have been a hell of a lot worse but thankfully they pulled over pretty sharpish and all was safe!

In-car selfie!

Very excited to go on a plane! And since EasyJets are orange I felt it was ok to tell him we were going on a Dusty Crophopper plane!

We stopped off at Lancaster Services at 12:30. I felt sick (again, nerves and excitement) but since I hadn’t even had a cup of tea I thought it would be wise to grab a bite! I got a cheese and tomato toastie from Costa and Mum and get got some fancy latte things. The toastie was YUM! Defo filled a hole!

The second half of the journey was pretty shocking. Apparently they had built an extra exit on one of the roundabouts meaning that the sat nav sent us down the wrong one and in the confusion Mum must have managed to reset the nav to send us ‘home’ so we spent half an hour going back the wrong way and turning round and going back again! Mare! I hate sat navs!

After all the drama we arrived at an airport car park ‘You have reached your destination’. No we haven’t, this is an official car park for the airport, we need some little airport parking company. Ok let’s leave this car park. £2 to get out of the car park we had been in for all of 30 seconds! Bloody rip off. Bloody sat navs. Did I mention that I hate sat navs?

FINALLY got where we needed to be just after 2pm. Dropped the car off, dragged the luggage out through the back seats and got on a mini bus, which appeared to be the highlight of Oliver’s life thus far!
At bag drop we off loaded our luggage, all except Oliver’s trunkie, which he wouldn’t let the airport parking guy put in the boot of the bus so he defo wasn’t gonna let them put it in the hold! After a little screaming paddy, the easyjet lady said he could keep it and wrote on his boarding card that he was allowed two bits of hand luggage, lucky boy!

Breezed through security, except my pat down (no strip search thankfully!), and headed for some food! Burger King to be exact. My stomach still wasn’t settled and I decided that I just wanted one of their milkshakes. Thankfully for me they didn’t sell them here, yey! So while the others tucked into their burgers and fries I went on a hunt for a shake! I managed to pick up a friji in WH Smiths and it went down a treat!

At 3:10 we were called to gate 9 and were soon boarding. I was thankful that we actually got to go outside and walk up the steps to the plane so that Oliver could see the plane an understand that we were actually getting on it, I don’t think it would have been quite the same if we just walked down one of those corridor things to the plane’s door if you know what I mean!

Oliver was very excited to be on the plane and take off was just the best thing ever! Not according to the lady sitting in front of me who was in hysterical tears poor lass!

Once in the air we put Wreck it Ralph on Mums laptop for Oliver to watch which kept him occupied for the whole flight except for the occasional reminder of ‘We’re on a plane Mummy!’ and ‘We’re in the clouds Mummy!’, thanks son!

Safety first!

An hour after takeoff we had landed in Paris but then the pilot had to drive the plane for about 20 mins to get to wherever we needed to be to get off! It was quite weird!

Anyways, after getting off and fast forwarding our watches to 7pm we picked up our luggage and buggy and headed out to find the bus to the hotel. This took forever! And there are no signs so we got lost a lot. We kept bumping into a couple (one of which was the poor lady who is scared of flying) and their two kids who were looking for the same bus and also getting lost so it wasn’t just us!
Once we found the bus stop we discovered that we had all missed the 7:30 bus by about 2 mins. Fab.

The lady behind the info desk told us that the next bus was in 45 mins, she then pulled the shutters down and went home. Rude. After further investigation we discovered that A. The next bus wasn’t until ten to nine and B. The info desk wasn’t supposed to close until 8. So she obviously told us the wrong time then legged it before we found out the truth!

We were informed that a taxi would cost roughly €100 so we decided to team up with the couple with kids and split the cost of a cab. Their kids were getting restless and there was no way we wanted to wait over an hour for the next bus so neither of us cared about forking out!

The taxi we were put in was a 7 seater so we did have to squish but we had a lovely chat with the other family. The Mum was called Michelle, I really can’t remember her husband’s name which is really bad of me but their twins were called Georgia and Daniel and they were a few months younger than Oliver. It was their first time at Disney so we gave them a few tips. Taxi pulled up to our hotel first, Newport Bay. The meter was on just over €80 so we figured it wouldn’t be too much more to Cheyenne which was their hotel so we gave them €45 and bid them goodbye, no doubt we would see them on the flight home!

By this time it was 8:30, a good 20 mins before the next bus was due to even arrive at the airport so we were very pleased we decided to get a taxi!
The lobby was beautiful and it smelt amazing! I checked us all in and grabbed 7am breakfast slots for the week then headed up to room 4123. It was like a maze in there! Corridor after corridor! Felt like it took forever to get to the room, didn’t feel so long for the rest of the holiday, probably seems longer when you’re dragging all the bags with you!

Loved the room, it was spacious and well equipped. I wanted to turn the TV on and watch Sophie but we couldn’t get it to work and it remained off for the duration of our stay! After we unpacked it was time for the most important thing, hotel gift shop time!
I wanted everything but I managed to hold back, Oliver picked up some stuff though! He got a twirly spinny light up Dusty Crophopper and a pen for his autographs which came to €24.
Back upstairs, Mum got Oliver ready for bed while Gen and I had showers. We packed our rucksacks ready for the next day and finally went to bed at about 11pm.

Tomorrow, DISNEYLAND!

Great day - can relate to the comment about the plane driving for 20 minutes after landing - seems to take forever

Thank you! He's not that cute all the time believe me! He was 3 and a half then, perfect age for the whole experience! Old enough to enjoy the rides and the characters and he remembers everything, never shuts up about meeting buzz!

I will finish this report soon I promise!

Yea it seems to take ages when you're eager to get off the plane!

Great travel day, the room looks so beautiful! Oliver is so sweet bless him. We want to go to WDW when our son is 3 and a half for our five year wedding anniversary in 2018 but funds are looking like it's more likely to be DLP so I'm enjoying seeing what a 3.5 year old enjoys on the trip, thanks for sharing!
