The Beginning of an Obsession | May 2014 | Day 12 | Epcot and Beaches and Cream!
Index Since we'd only visited Epcot once so far, another visit to the park was on the agenda today. We arrived at around half 10 and came in through the main entrance this time, so got to see Spaceship Earth in all its glory. Fun fact time - We live in Northumberland, and one time when I was little my grandparents were taking me up to Edinburgh Zoo. We passed the RAF Boulmer site on the way and I genuinely thought I was just next to Epcot. I also thought a pylon way in the distance from my bedroom window was Sleeping Beautys' castle... Anyway, we stopped for a couple of photos. I look miserable as sin in the one of me, but I zoomed in and I am smiling, I swear! We also saw a skywriter. It said "U + Jesus = ❤" I'm not religious in the slightest but it was pretty cool. Even though we were eating at Beaches and Cream today, we still stopped at Karamell Kuche for a snack. Lewis had the caramel brownie and I had the caramel and pecan slice. I have just this second formed the decision that we need a Werthers' Originals shop over here because these were heavenly. Seriously, my mouth is watering right now. We decided to take a wander around the world afterwards, and I just love the topiaries. They're so impressive and look amazing! I don't think we seen them all, but we did see a fair few. When we were walking around we spotted this adorable duck family in Canada. I turn into a five year old when I see cute little animals and I could have watched them all day We watched the Canada movie before making our way over to the Beach Club via boat for lunch. The resort is absolutely beautiful. I'd love to stay there one day - it looks so relaxing and the pool looks amazing! We located Beaches and Cream and checked in, but we ended up waiting a fair bit to get in. Maybe around 25-30 minutes? While we waited a woman came up to the podium and started mouthing off to the CM because she wanted a table and they weren't taking walk-ins. I don't understand how people can be so rude! I think we only booked our table around 3 weeks before going so it's not one that you need to book 6 months in advance. Once in and seated, we ordered some drinks. I had the pink lemonade which was really nice and not badly priced at all. We also chose our mains - hotdog and fries for Lewis and the grilled cheese and tomato bisque for me. The tomato bisque was really good, nice and creamy with a decent amount. Lewis enjoyed his hotdog too, although I've read the burgers are pretty good as well! Since there was just the two of us we decided not to attempt the Kitchen Sink (although many in the restaurant did!) and stuck with a No Way Jose to share instead. If you've done your research on Beaches and Cream you'll already know that this is a popular choice, but holy mother of all things ice cream this was amazing. So much peanut buttery goodness! The bill for the food here was really reasonable! I think it was about $34 or $38 for everything including tip? So a good one to visit if you're paying OOP. We decided to walk back around to Epcot afterwards, which only took around 5 or 10 minutes. Probably shouldn't have even gotten the boat there to be honest Our FastPass windows were rolling around by now so we had our first ride on Spaceship Earth. I don't know why we didn't book this on our first day because I thought it was good fun! Here we are up on the screen. We also rode Figment. Lewis forgot that it gets a bit windy in there and proceeded to leave his sunglasses on his head. When it got to the windy part of the ride, they flew off and smacked the woman in front on the head I don't think she found it as funny though

Since we obviously hadn't had enough to eat already () we grabbed some frushi from Japan. They were really small but tasted light and fresh. We also got a cocktail. I can't remember where we got it or what it was called, but I do remember it being filled with strawberry pieces and lots of alcohol!
We hopped on some more rides before deciding to find a good spot for Illuminations. We rode Soarin' for the first time since we had a FastPass for it. I was very apprehensive about this with it being a hang glider experience and the wait was making me anxious to the point where I got not only panicky but weepy as well. Such a wuss! Anyway, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be although I did feel like I was going to fall out. Shame I kept my eyes closed though We staked out a good spot in what I remember to be Germany well before Illuminations. Lewis had passed Mexico earlier and saw the words "nachos" and was determined to get some, so I held up the fort while he took forever and a day on his journey around the world. He returned half an hour later looking dead pleased with himself. He said he used a quick service credit which got you the nachos (a huge portion), some churros and a drink! He's mentioned a fair few times that he wants to do that again. I felt so sad for this duck though because he totally wanted some of the nachos Illuminations soon began and that's when it started getting busy. We were stood against the barriers so no one could get in front of us but there are a good amount of people who don't mind invading your personal space when standing behind you! Some photos from the show: I recorded the end part and even though it's only a minute long I get goosebumps every time I watch it, it takes me right back to standing there. We headed out and back to the hotel after that. I really don't get how some people don't like Epcot - we had so much fun there and I'm really looking forward to getting back. Tomorrow is our last day in Hollywood Studios and dinner at House of Blues!

Great day, lovely looking food! I have an ADR at Beaches and cream so it's brilliant to actually see some of the food offerings. We won't be doing a kitchen sink either! Totally with you on the duck thing, I love ducks, particularly baby ones, I would have given him a nacho! I'm sure he gets far worse to eat! Pussycat

Yeah I know what you mean, you only ever really see photos of the ice cream! Lewis did give him a nacho but he just kept looking at us like that, it was so cute. Thanks for reading!

Enjoyed reading your trip and looking at all the fab photos. I think it does look a bit like our giant golf balls at Boulmer and on the Alnwick Moors (that's what my girls call them anyway) except a little less spectacular looking possibly as they are normally surrounded by mist and not glorious sunshine! It is our first visit in May, I bet the girls will say "we have these mam!"
Congratulations to you both on getting engaged-how canny is Lewis. Another bizarre fact for you...I used to teach Lewis when he was 10! Imagine my surprise when I started to read your report and saw his cheeky, smiling face looking at me...it is a small world after all. |
