The highs, the lows, the bits in the middle and the just plain crazy

Arrived back Monday. Fab trip. Some special memories, some good, some funny , some not so great and one or two just plain bonkers ...

The Highs ...

Getting married in a simple but moving and very personal service at the Eternally Yours Chapel. The Rev'd spoke the words with such sincerity it brought tears to our eyes. A wonderful memory .

The good wishes of so many Dibbers on our big day. It was so nice that people were thinking of us.

Disney Yacht Club upgrading us to concierge level and treating us royally. It made a special occasion even more special.

Victoria and Alberts - wow, what an experience.

Fabulous food at Shulas, 4rivers, Red Lobster , Longhorns and so many other places. The food was great.

Walking around Winter Park market in the sunshine , taking the time to just do something different.

Finding some incredible bargains at the outlets . I mean , Armani cardigans reduced to $ 15.99 and also on a buy one get one free deal. It would be rude not to ! A snip at £5 per cardi ! . Our total bargain shopping experience was pretty awesome.

The Osborne Lights. Fantastic display , even the non Dibber wanted to see them again so they must be pretty spectacular

The warm sunny days , when we had them ...

My fabulous MiL for teen, dog and house sitting and enabling us to have this trip.

A number of CMs who went out of their way to make our stay special

Discovering a liking for MK I had never had before. It wasn't a hit on our trips in 2010 or 2012 and got discarded in 2013 so I was really surprised how much we both liked the park this time. Maybe no teen boys was a factor?

Our photoshoot with Randy Chapman. How to feel like a film star for a few hours.

Rosen Inn at Pointe Orlando. Great base for us without the kids, great value for money. Was full of Brits and on karaoke night I thought we were on the set of Benidorm ... ( maybe this should be in the crazy bit?)

Making 7 park visits on a " no park trip". Genius.

The Lows ...

The wet and cold days which were a few too many for our liking. Our wedding day was freezing

Not looking quite how we would have wanted in all our wedding pics.

BA . Distinctly average service and evil loos that smelled horrendous, before we had even taken off

Yachtsman Steakhouse. A disappointing wedding dinner. Unhelpful podium greeter, food Order was wrong, restaurant was chaotic, I was served with chipped china ... Expected much better for a signature restaurant and a pale shadow of our wonderful meal here in 2012. Shulas was infinitely superior in every aspect.

Losing the iPhone on our last day. We currently do not speak of this .

Remembering why we don't do fireworks and parades with so many rude , pushy people who just spoil it with their confrontational attitude, arriving at the last minute and using your toes or ankles as stroller parking and selfie sticks as battering rams so they can get the view you just waited patiently for ...

Being short and having view of said fireworks and parades obliterated by a bazillion iPads and small people on shoulders . I will wear stilts next time.

Not getting to Fultons on our last day due to traffic jam panic.

The bit in the middle ...

Portofino Bay Hotel

Lovely setting but I feel we had a poor room and a useless check in experience followed up by pretty average overall staff service. I had this as a low originally as I was so down about it at the time but I have to admit the overall ambience is lovely. I just won't pay that amount of money again... Club at Hard Rock all the way next time. Andy thinks I am being over harsh.

MVMCP . Maybe the cold and waiting around jaded my view but I wasn't as immersed in the festivity as I had expected to be. We haven't seen Frozen so I think that didn't help either. Felt a bit underwhelmed by it but some good bits too so not enough to be a low.

The omg, that's just plain crazy ...

Managing to pick the only taxi driver in Orlando who didn't know the way to the Grand Floridian so he stopped to ask a Sheriff ... Keep watching Americas worst criminals or some other similar US tv cop show with those car cams ... we could be on it . No seriously, we won't be ( I think !) but jeez we had THE most surreal / terrifying/ amusing if it was someone else / experience . You will have to read the trippy for more .

Interstellar - what the heck is that film about ? Maybe I shouldn't have dozed off, oops.

In summary it was a great trip. No, it was an amazing trip. Even the lows add to the memories.

How can ever we top this one ?

Great to hear all your news and that getting married in the US was small and intimate, just how you wanted it.

My sister and I stopped at Portofino Bay a few years ago (a girly trip of sun and spending ) We loved the look of the hotel and pools but we looked at 4 rooms before we were happy . Not very clean, damaged furniture and the public areas and walkways were grubby and not as clean as we expected.

Am so glad that your highs far outweigh the lows, and that you had a fantastic holiday and a wonderful wedding day, even if it was a bit colder than you would have liked.

And what's a holiday without the plain crazy moments - those things are usually what makes holidays so memorable, and you look back on for years to come and still laugh about it.

Oooo... I like your highs & lows! I am still to write mine!

I am thinking you may have had the same taxi driver as us one day! He couldn't get us back to the villa from MK. Windsor hills is a very well known estate! He didn't even know how to get on the 192!

He then confessed to only working for 2 weeks as a taxi driver and only works in a Sat! 😳

Can't wait to read your trippie... I must get on & start mine xxx

Sounds like a fab trip overall. Many congratulations. Such a shame about the Yachtsman. We thought it had gone down a bit in standards too. The food and our waiter/service were fab but this time, for us, it had the ambience of a golden corral, and we were sat next to a family of 8 from h... Who had never been taught table manners, were dressed like tramps and the children could not sit at the table, but were jumping out their seats every minute. Thank goodness grandpa took them out to see the fireworks.

Sorry this is after the horse has bolted, but I cannot recommend fastpass+ for parade and firework viewing enough. The fight through the crowds to get to the viewing area is well worth it.

Also have to agree about Portofino Bay. We had lots of niggles about housekeeping standards, and one complaint culminating in a $150 credit, and also found the staff were a bit grumpy and not really trying to make our stay wonderful. We loved the setting, though and would like to give it another try sometime.

Thanks for posting and looking forward to your trip report
