We drove back to Old Key West to hang out by the pool for a few hours, had a snack at Turtle Shack, before going back to our room to get ready for our evening ADR at Whispering Canyon Café with friends.

When it comes to the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan at a quick-service restaurant you are entitled to one entrée, one dessert and one non-alcoholic beverage for one credit per person.

Liam had a pepperoni pizza and a coke, he decided he didn't want a dessert, which are entitled to on the dining plan. Steve and I shared nachos - which is just a bag of chips with a cheese dip (that quite frankly, is foul!) and judging by our receipt it counted as a dessert as we were only charged 1 meal credit for this.

We decided to head over into Future World to go on a couple of rides, but stopped off to do a bit of snacks-to-take-home shopping! We used quite a lot of our snack credits in this way - free gifts for everyone back home!

We bought some bags of popcorn (no photo I'm afraid), some Goofy Candy Co. sweets, Mickey Puffy Cheese Crackers, and we must have picked up a Mickey Rice Krispie Treat at some stage as well, but I can't find the receipt for that, but I've got a photo of it! We also bought a couple of frozen lemonades (no photo again) to slurp on.

Whispering Canyon Café

Whispering Canyon Café

We were meeting our friends for dinner, and as we were a little early, I texted them to let them know we were there already and sitting in the lobby. We all met up outside Whispering Canyon Café which is just to the left as you walk in.

I knew that it was service with shenanigans at this restaurant, so was prepared for the experience! It would appear that not everyone enjoys service like this, so they have coasters which lets your server know if you want to take part in the fun… or not. We are the fun party!

When it comes to the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan at a table service restaurant you are entitled to one appetizer, one entrée, one dessert and one non-alcoholic beverage per person (usually refillable) for one credit per person.

My friend informed me that the milkshakes here were AWESOME, so we all ordered one - they came served in Kilner jars and were really, really good. They were thick, creamy and delicious. Steve and Liam ordered another one after finishing their first, but I couldn't drink more than one. They were included with our dining plan as a drink.

Appetizers…

Me: Smoked Chicken Quesadilla - with roasted vegetables, smoky jack cheese, arugula with moonshine dressing, fresh salsa and cilantro-sour cream ($9.99)

Him: Ranger John's Chicken and Corn Tortilla soup - with sour cream ($7.99)

The Boy: Slow-Smoked Pulled Pork Spring Rolls - with sweet chilli dipping sauce ($12.49)

All of the apps were very tasty and well presented.

For our mains, Steve and I ordered the All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Skillet, which we shared with our friends. Liam wanted a steak. Our server brought the salad and corn bread (lush) over to our table with our apps.

Entrées…

Me & Him: All-You-Care-To-Enjoy Skillet - Starting with family-style mixed greens tossed in an apple vinaigrette dressing and fresh baked cornbread. Featuring slow-smoke pork ribs, barbecued pulled pork, roasted chicken, oak-roasted beef strip loin, and western-style sausage served with seasonal farm fresh vegetables, mashed Yukon potatoes, corn on the cob and cowboy-style baked beans ($59.98 for two)

The Boy: Steak-Your-Claim Grilled New York Strip - topped with blue cheese butter on roasted potatoes, pearl onions, grape tomatoes, green beans and port wine sauce ($32.99)

As you can see, Liam decided he just wanted fries with his steak! The meal for us adults came on the one skillet for us to share - lots of food and we couldn't get through it all. All good American barbecue fayre.

Our server was a lot of fun too - a really big personality and even though the restaurant was fairly busy, she had a lot of time for us. Once she learned the kids' names, she relished in giving them a little telling off now and then too - often met with giggles. We'd heard about asking for ketchup, so made Liam ask for a bottle - turns out you all have to shout out ketchup and are brought pretty much every single bottle in the place!

Towards the end of our meal, a fork fell from our table onto the floor - and all the kids ended up in jail…and even our server joined in. She made for a great experience at Whispering Canyon Café!

When dessert time came around, we just couldn't manage any more, so took them to go - just one (crappy) photo it would seem of the apple caramel pie. The boys had a chocolate cake each.

Desserts…

Me: Apple-Caramel Pie - fresh Granny Smith apples, sugar cookie crust, streusel topping and caramel drizzle ($7.99)

Him & The Boy: Whispering Canyon Campfire-Style Chocolate Gooey Cake ($15.98 for two)

Bill Total: $182.42 (3 Credits) {Tip: $30.83}

If you're wondering how they handle a split tab at a Disney restaurant - just let them know at the start of the meal and they will run two separate bills for you without any problem.

We paid the check with our Magic Bands as we have done at every other meal, and waved goodbye to our friends. We took a quick look in the resort shop where I bought some Maleficent "ears" to wear at Villains Unleashed in a couple of days time, before we drove home to Old Key West.

Looks like great fun.

We had a so so meal there last time. Looks like there have been changes though like the jail and the mats.

Fulton's Crab House

Fulton's Crab House

We didn’t have an ADR for Fultons Crab House, just decided once we were in Downtown Disney that this is where we wanted to try for lunch. As it was early lunchtime it was pretty much empty so we got a table straight away.

Our waiter, Mo, was from the UK, so we had a good old chat with him, and since it was quiet, he was able to spend this time talking with us. We ordered some drinks and took a look at the menu.

Since we had paid to upgrade to the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan, we didn’t want to really have to purchase anything off plan, however, I was getting seriously bored of coke and iced tea, so I ordered a non-alcoholic cocktail, which, if I recall, the waiter was able to get on the plan for us – I just couldn’t have a refill as you would with fountain drinks.

According to the bill, my drink was called Sunset Punch. I wish I could tell you what was in it, but I really can’t remember, and, as I’ve mentioned before, my note taking for this trip was, erm, none!

When it comes to the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan at a table service restaurant you are entitled to one appetizer, one entrée, one dessert and one non-alcoholic beverage per person (usually refillable) Signature restaurants are 2 credits per person.

After studying the extensive menu, we made our selections, and this is what we had…

Appetizers…

Me + Him: Fulton’s Seafood Tower – Alaska king crab, shrimp cocktail, ahi tuna lettuce cups, lump crab, oysters on the half shell ($45)

The Boy: Lobster Corn Dogs – with salsa verde & sweet chili aioli ($14)

Now, as much as hubs and I enjoy seafood, neither of us wanted to try the oysters, so we asked that they be left off our sharing platter. We had extras of everything else instead! Our waiter was very helpful and demonstrated how to remove the meat from the crab legs.

All the seafood was delicious, fresh and tasty. We especially enjoyed the ahi tuna.

Liam loved the lobster corn dogs – which were juicy pieces of lobster in a corn batter and deep fried. He tried lobster for the first time on our very first visit to Orlando back in 2011, and Florida is the only place he’ll eat it!

Entrées…

Me: Maine Lobster Boil – 1¼ pound whole lobster, littleneck clams, mussels, Old Bay, corn on the cob, red potatoes ($52)

Him: Alaska King Crab – 1¼ pound served with red potatoes and corn on the cob ($60)

The Boy: Fulton’s Steakhouse Burger – half-pound choice grind, wood-grilled, pickle spear, brioche, 2 toppings (American, Cheddar, Provolone, Applewood bacon, sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions ($17)

Our main course seafood was every bit as delicious as our appetizers. Liam decided to have a burger – one course of fish was enough for him!

Mo (our waiter) kindly shelled the lobster for me (I really didn’t want fishy hands for the rest of the day!) but Steve was okay with removing the meat from the king crab legs on his own.

Desserts…

Me: Key Lime Pie ($9)

Him: New York Cheesecake ($9)

The Boy: Cookie Sundae ($11)

There is always room for dessert! And since the meal was quite light, we all had dessert at the table (instead of taking it away, like we have done on some occasions!) I pinched the cherry from Liam’s cookie sundae, which is why it’s in some of the photos and not in others.

We paid our bill and gave our waiter a generous tip, as he was really friendly and helpful. It’s not the sort of restaurant we would go to had we not been on the dining plan, as it is very expensive! The bottom line is, we would go back (on the dining plan!)

Goofy Candy Co. Snacks

Goofy Candy Co. Snacks

Like kids in a candy store (ho ho!) we spent a grand total of $78.22 or 17 snack credits. We bought some character cookies, bags of candy, boxes of Minnie’s cookies, Star Wars candy tins, a frozen drink (for Liam) and a Maleficient cake pop (for me). Photos are for illustrative purposes, as we bought candy and cookies all over the place on this trip! And these all went back to the UK with us as gifts.

Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue Dinner Show

Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue Dinner Show

It was early evening when we started the drive to Fort Wilderness for the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue!

The dinner show is at Pioneer Hall in the Settlement area, and you have to catch a bus from the Outpost parking lot. As you know, I’m not a fan of the Disney buses, but fortunately, we didn’t have to wait for very long!

Looking at the times on my photographs, it looks like it took us around 10 minutes or so from the parking lot to Pioneer hall, and it was starting to get dark. It was a bit disorientating when we arrived for checking in, with people just milling about not really knowing what to do. But eventually a Cast Member came out with a check in sign for us to line up at.

We were given a ticket with our table number on it, and then directed to have a photograph taken, before eventually being called into Pioneer Hall.

Our table was right down at the front, behind the piano, and when I saw where we were, I was concerned we’d have a bit of a rubbish view, but fortunately, that wasn’t the case. We also had a nice chit-chat with the pianist and the banjo player before the show started!

There was already salad and corn bread on the table when we sat down, and our waiter was hilarious! He gave us menus which told us what we would be having for dinner, as well as the selection of drinks that was included. There was also the option to purchase different drinks if you wanted to.

When it comes to the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan and dinner shows, which are table service, served family-style, you are entitled to the full meal - appetizer, entrée and dessert, non-alcoholic beverages and also some alcoholic beverages (age 21+) for 2 credit per person. Tip is included in the price.

Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue Menu

Appetizers: Tossed salad and corn bread

Entrees: Crispy fried chicken, smoked barbecued pork ribs, seasonal vegetables, mashed potatoes, cowboy beans

Dessert: Strawberry Shortcake

Beverages: a selection of soft and alcoholic drinks including: Coca-Cola, Sprite, Root Beer, Iced Tea, Milk, Wine and beer.

The food came out served in little metal buckets which I thought was awesome, and the fried chicken was soooo good! It is all you care to eat, so we were offered more when our waiter saw the empty buckets, or if they don’t ask and you want more, just ask!

The Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue is one of the longest running shows at Walt Disney World, and I can see why – it is thoroughly entertaining!

It is a Wild West dancing, singing and zany vaudeville comedy show, featuring the stars Claire de Lune, Johnny Ringo, Dolly Drew, Six Bits Slocum, Flora Long and Jim Handy. It’s full of good show tunes, slapstick and corny jokes, and you can’t help but clap your hands and stamp your feet! The show is about two hours long, but it really doesn’t feel like it, in fact, I was quite disappointed when it was all over – it was definitely a highlight of this holiday for us.

I’m going to just share some of the photos that I took, as there isn’t much more to say!

During the show, the cast go out into the crowd to sing a couple of songs, as well as wish people happy birthday and anniversary. There is some audience participation later in the show as well, getting up on stage and joining in.

From what I remember, the cast go off for a little bit of a break, and when they come back, they sing about strawberry shortcake, which just so happens to be our dessert! The strawberry shortcake was LUSH, so make sure you save some room for it!

Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue Dinner Shower

Bill Total: $185.97 (6 Credits) {Tip: $0 (included)}

DxDDP Running Totals: Bill: $2708.43 | Credits: 76/126 | Tips: $393.83

All in all, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue was a brilliant family night out. The food was tasty, the entertainment was brilliant, and I would certainly pay to see this dinner show, if we wasn’t on the dining plan!
