We're Doing a Sequel! [May 2015] Day 4 *Animal Kingdom, Yak & Yeti and Raglan Road*

We're Doing a Sequel! Day 4 *Animal Kingdom, Yak & Yeti and Raglan Road*

We had planned for a bit of a lie in this morning, since we didn't really need to be anywhere until 12pm, but still woke up pretty early. We decided on a laze around in bed for a bit and headed down to the food court at half 9. There was no way we were staying at French Quarter and not giving the beignets a try, so it was decided. Beignets to share for breakfast.

We used a snack credit on them and you get more than enough - three to be exact. And they're made to order, so you get them piping hot. Lewis opted to drown his in maple syrup, while I had them plain. They were really good, like a hollow doughnut dusted with icing sugar.

After finishing our beignets and having a peer around Scat Cat's Club we headed to the bus stop to wait for a bus for Animal Kingdom, arriving at 10:45.

We opted for a couple of photopass photos before wandering down to It's Tough to Be a Bug. There was no queue and we entered into the next show straight away. Even though I hate bugs and all things insect-y I think it's a fun little show. I can see why it can be a bit scary for kids though!

Last year Lewis never got the chance to ride Expedition Everest, as somehow we completely missed that area out? He was determined to ride it this time, and we walked over, stopping to see the spider monkeys along the way.

Lewis headed into the single rider queue while I picked a spot in the shade where I could still watch the ride vehicles going up the hill and coming down a drop. That is, until around 10 kids from a school group decided they wanted to climb on the wall I was resting on in the shade to try and spot their group. I’d soon had enough and wandered off to a different spot to wait for Lewis, trying my best to avoid standing in the sun as it was boiling by now!

It was around 11:35 when Lewis rejoined me, and since Yak and Yeti wasn’t that far away, we headed over a bit earlier than our 12pm reservation time. We were seated fairly quickly, getting to our table at 11:50.

We thought the decor in here was amazing, it’s so detailed and there’s so much to look at! We were sat upstairs, which seemed a bit quieter than the dining room below.

We started off with a cocktail each, Lewis opting for what I believe was the Big Bamboo (Malibu Coconut Rum, Barcadi Light Rum, DeKuyper Banana Liqueur and Tropical Fruit Juices) while I went for the Yak Attack (Mango Daiquiri, Barcadi Light Rum and Wildberry Flavours). The Yak Attack was pretty much the nicest alcoholic drink I’ve ever had in my life. It was incredible! Sweet and fruity and you couldn’t taste the alcohol in it. The cherry was a nice addition too.

Neither of us fancied any of the appetisers, so we went straight in and ordered our mains - Crispy Honey Chicken for me and the Orange Beef for Lewis, both with jasmine rice.

I wasn’t really expecting much since I don’t tend to eat Asian food at home, but wow they were good. The honey sauce on the chicken was sweet, but not overly so and the rice and vegetables were cooked exceptionally well. The beef that Lewis ordered was in no way chewy, and had a bit of a spicy kick to it. We both polished the lot off, it was so good.

Dessert was next! I was a bit full from the main and although I’d fancied the Fried Wontons earlier on, there was no way I’d be able to battle through them now. And so I opted for the trio of sorbets instead. Lewis still had the appetite for those wontons, though!

The sorbet portions were actually pretty generous, and featured mango, lemon and raspberry flavours. They were refreshing and light, and the lemon wasn’t too sour - a problem I face whenever I order lemon sorbet. The mango was my favourite out of the three.

I had a little taste of the wontons that Lewis had ordered, and I was right - there was no way I would have been able to get through them. They were nice, but just a bit too rich for me, even with my sweet tooth!

Our server came over with the bill and a couple of fortune cookies, and had a chat with Lewis about his watch (I believe it’s the LG G Watch R) and how amazing it was. He’d made quite a few Disney themed watch faces and got a fair few comments on his watch throughout the holiday, he was really pleased!

I can’t remember what my fortune inside of my cookie read, and Lewis’ stated “You will receive some high prize or reward.” And he naturally took a photo of the lottery numbers (didn’t win, obviously).

We charged our drinks and tip to the room, and headed over to the Harambe Theatre to see if they were accepting FastPasses for the next showing of Festival of the Lion King yet. We arrived a bit early, so decided on getting a frozen jungle juice from the Harambe popcorn stand. There was quite a hard sell on the souvenir cups, something that wasn’t available last year. Eventually they got the hint that we just wanted the drink and not the cup and we paid with a snack credit. Honestly, if I accepted every souvenir cup I’d have no room in my suitcase for anything else! The juice wasn’t entirely frozen yet, but we didn’t mind all that much.

By the time we’d finished our drink they’d opened up the FP+ queue, and we made our way in. I was so excited to see this, since it was closed during out trip last year. We had quite a bit of a wait in the queue area (around 20-25 minutes) but we did arrive early.

We were seated in the elephant section, and the show soon commenced. It was absolutely spectacular. Seriously, what an amazing show! I would have loved it to be more the length of Finding Nemo the Musical, but it’s obviously quite a physically demanding show so I can understand why it’s only 20 minutes long.

We left the theatre and noticed that Kilimanjaro Safaris was only a 10 (or was it 20, I can’t remember ) wait, so thought we’d go for a ride before our FP+ became active. We waited less than 10 minutes before we were in the truck, and we were seated in the back row.

I really enjoy this despite it’s bumpiness, it’s nice to see the animals in such large areas. I know they’re still in captivity at the end of the day but a lot of zoos don’t provide half the amount of room that the animals have here.

Our FP+ was active by the time we got off, so we went for another round.

After departing, we headed off onto the Pangani Forest Trail, another thing we missed out on last year. We thought this was a great way of spending 30-40 minutes, and the gorillas in particular were great to watch. I thought it felt a little cooler on the trail too, which was a nice change from the blistering heat.

We figured we’d save the other trail for our next day at Animal Kingdom, and made our way over to Dinosaur for our last FP+ of the day, stopping for a couple of photopass photos along the way.

I don’t know why but I felt like Dinosaur was more intense when I rode it this year? Either that or my stomach just wasn’t keen this time around. I did enjoy it though.

At this point we headed back to French Quarter to rest up and change before our Raglan Road reservation later on in the evening.

We were a little later out of the room than we had anticipated, arriving at Downtown Disney with just ten minutes to spare before our reservation. We hot footed it over to Raglan Road, only to be greeted by a rather large queue when we got there.

We checked in and were seated at around 8:20, 20 minutes after our reservation time of 8pm.

The one thing that bothered me about Raglan Road was the noise. It was so loud in there that you could barely hear yourself think, let alone have a conversation. I must have sounded like such an idiot as the family on the table next to us kept trying to talk to us, and I just kept saying “Sorry?!” whenever they said something!

The entertainment was good though, and it was cute how they got the little kids up on stage to have a go at the dancing.

Service was a bit slow here, there always seemed to be quite a big wait for drinks, even though we were just drinking water and Coke. We skipped on starters and were brought some Irish soda bread with a Guinness reduction. The bread wasn’t the nicest I’ve ever had, but it was decent and I ate it.

I’d ordered the Schnitzel Savvy for my main, and Lewis went for Kevin’s Heavenly Ham, with some onion rings as a side. I was not expecting mine to be as huge as it was!

Honestly, it was a full on dinner plate with a giant piece of ham taking up the full circumference, and it was topped with barbecue beans and a fried egg. There was even a huge portion of chips that I didn’t even photograph. Lewis’ plate was also stacked high, with bacon loin, cabbage, colcannon potatoes, parsley cream sauce and a raisin cider jus.

I think Lewis enjoyed his, but after having a taste of mine he did say he was a bit jealous and wished he’d ordered what I did.

I gave finishing my main a good try, but was defeated in the end, leaving quite a substantial amount of chips. Lewis didn’t even make a dent in his onion rings, there were so many.

But since our eyes are bigger than our bellies, we still had to have dessert. We both wanted the famous Ger's Bread and Butter Pudding, but when we came to order one each our server looked at us a bit funny and told us that one each would be waaay too much as they’re so huge.

Since we were on the dining plan we had no option but to order two desserts, so went with one of those and the Strawberry and Apple Crumble, both being to share.

When the desserts came over we realised our server was right - the bread and butter pudding was absolutely huge! I actually struggle to comprehend how one person is meant to eat all of that. It was amazing though, especially with the sauces. The crumble was served in a mason jar, which, while cute to look at, is slightly impractical when it comes to eating it. It was gorgeous, but could have done with a bit more crumble in my opinion. Both of us could barely make a dent in the bread and butter pudding, which was a shame as I was looking forward to it so much and I felt bad for leaving it!

We charged the tip and the onion rings to our room once again. We tipped all of our servers 20% the whole holiday except at Raglan Road. She was nice, but we didn’t feel the service was exceptional. The food was great though, and it’s on our list for 2016.

We headed out and browsed around Downtown Disney for a little, and I had a look around Arribas Bros while Lewis tried to find the toilets.

Feeling quite tired from a busy day and so much food, we called it a night at 10pm and took the boat back to the resort

Tomorrow: Walmart, Epcot, Via Napoli, Illuminations!

Great day. Food portions are huge aren't they!?!?

I don't know why, possibly because of the amount of forestry but I always find AK the hottest park/place in Orlando!

Looking forward to reading more

Fab day. All the food looked yum.

Seriously though - I don't know how your hair stays so perfect in the heat - not even one out of place. :p

I don't even bother trying to have my fringe down as it gets all straggly and I can't stand it on my face!

I definitely agree, it's sometimes unbearable there! We found the same in Hollywood Studios, probably due to all the concrete there.

Haha I always fix my fringe before having my photo taken as I hate the gappy fringe look, it drives me mad!

Looks like you had a lovely day. The food does look good. I'm beginning to wish we'd upgraded now instead of sticking with the QSDP. Never mind, I'm sure DD (12) wouldn't be able to do justice to adult meals.
Loving the pictures of POFQ; they're making me even more excited than I already am!
