Red Lobster, Formosa Gardens BVD, Sat 22 August

Fresh from a round of anarchic mini golf we arrived at Red Lobster just before 7 and only had a 5 minute wait for a table. This is one of Andy's fave places but the boys were not so keen and the menu was a bit limited for them.

We had an ace server called Billy who was bringing refills quicker than we could consume them !

Connor had fish and chips. The fish was nice but he didn't like the taste of the batter he said.

Jamie had kids grilled chicken. What can I say. It's grilled chicken . He said it was his least favourite meal of the holiday.

I had coconut shrimp. I am not sure why. We normally have this as our free appetiser , I then get the pasta. But there was some confusion between me and Andy I ended up wit this as my main. It's very nice and I love the piņa colada sauce, it's just not normally what I would choose for a main meal.

I also had the Caesar salad. Which was nice.

You can just see the basket of cheddar biscuits in the background. These were snaffled up so quickly I didn't get a piccie! But we did buy some boxes of the biscuit mix at the supermarket. Nom nom.

Himself had steak and lobster and was well pleased.

With cokes, strawberry lemonade and a beer it came to $88. Will upload receipt when I find it. We left a $20 tip.

Still one of Andy's faves, boys wouldn't go back. I'm a bit indifferent.
Can you tell who is the sea foodie in the house?

Ponderosa 7598 W Irlo Bronson Hwy, Sunday 23 August

Ok , its not everyone's cup of tea and hey we drink coffee anyway.
This was about nostalgia.

On our ( mildly disastrous) 1st ever trip in 2010 with the whole family we had been told about Ponderosa and the blue jelly for breakfast. So this was the first place that we in fact visited on our American Adventure.

We decided to return, just for the blue jelly.

Of course you pay as you enter. It was busy . There was a queue.

We had 4 x $6.99 breakfasts, 2 x Mountain Dews ($4.98) and 2 coffees (($4.58). A grand total of $40.15 and we did leave a $10 tip - our server was lovely and boy did she work hard.

Only after paying and surveying the serving stations did we establish there was in fact no blue jelly

So thats Ponderosa right off the list for good.

It was busy so there seemed a ridiculous queue for the servery with the sausages and bacon - we opted for the other side first. Where else can you have bread pudding and custard on the same plate as biscuits and gravy - ewwww

I checked out dessert first but in the end didnt sample any

Buffets never make for the best presented plates and these were a bit feeble.

This was corned beef hash, beans, assorted meats and hash browns. It was Andys and he wasnt impressed when we likened the hash to something the dogs would sick up in the garden

I was all virtuous

Nah not really

I then went back for the pancakes and choc chip buns alongside these odd potato chip/crisp things with bacon. It was quite nice

The kids had troughed most of theirs before I got back with mine so only Jamie's left.

I didnt get any servery pics - but there was a central station of the fruits, cereals and salad items - and plenty of it.
One of the hot serverys had the main meats with biscuits, waffles , fruit cobbler and custard ( breakfast staples obviously) and the other one had the egg station, pancakes, rolls, potatoes etc

It was chaotic and compared to our $42 Perkins meals, not exactly much cheaper - which is strange as we always had in our heads it was a really cheap place - but in reality, it isnt.

Unless you go back LOTS of times for seconds and thirds - which because we are lightweights, we didnt.

So not good, not bad, a bit in the middle.

Have to say it was exceptionally clean, service was fast and the loos were also very clean and tidy.

Longhorn Steakhouse, Orange Lake Sunday 23 August

It is Andy's birthday today but he wasnt feeling all that great by the time we went out for dinner.

It was busy when we arrived at 7.15 and we had a 30 minute wait for a table. I did mention it was his birthday and asked if they could sing to him (unfortunately they forgot- which is just as well as when they came out to sing to the table near us, Andy said, I do hope you havent arranged something like that for me ... )

I had a lush strawberry daiquiri, the boys had cokes and Andy had a beer.

The lovely warm honey wheat bread soon arrived and was devoured so we had a second loaf as well.

I had a casear salad - I dont know, they just taste so much better over here.

Connor had a half rack of ribs, loaded potato (oh the horror, more sour cream !) and fries

Jamie had a chicken burger and fries

Andy had a full rack with mash and fries

I had the Filet with loaded potato - oh my , it was lush

It was a lovely meal. We were so stuffed we couldnt manage dessert which was a shame.

Just short of $88 for the meal and drinks. We left $17 as a tip.

Applebees 4759 W Irlo Bronson Hwy Monday 24 August

WE had arrived here at 1.45 after a somewhat grumpy and unsatisfactory start to the day at Aquatica. Lunch here certainly restored our good humour.

I had potstickers and honey bbq boneless wings from the 2 for $9.99 build your own, with a strawberry lemonade. Both dishes were lovely

Andy went for the triple Hog burger

Jamie had the turkey club sandwich and in the background you can se Connor's choice of 2 lots of the Honey BBQ wings

For dessert I had the small ( $1.99) version of the Salted Caramel Pretzel Bread bites. OMG this is delicious - I repeat THIS IS DELICIOUS. It comes with a pot of hot sweet cream cheese dipping sauce.
Did i mention THIS IS DELICIOUS

A very tasty lunch indeed and everyone enjoyed their choices.

A very reasonable bill too

Along with Longhorn, Applebees was the only other place to put a " hold" on the suggested tip amount. We actually paid in cash and had the hold amount released a few days later. This was fine as we knew it might happen but one to consider when you get to the end of the hols ...

Outback Steakhouse Formosa Gardens BVD Monday 24 August

This meal was just Andy and I - the boys had opted for us to bring them a subway later ( in the same complex as the restaurant).

Sadly we didnt feel we had room for the bloomin onion - we saw it delivered to another table - it looks impressive.

It was loud and chaotic here , perhaps as it was still quite early. We were seated behind a table with , shall we say, a very unhappy toddler, who shrieked and screamed constantly for the first 15 minutes that we were there. Just as we were about to ask to move, that party finished . I was grateful - I know tired toddlers are hard work , but it really was deafening and making me flinch with the degree of decibels being achieved

Not a great start - we had a very enthusiastic server called Blake who was a cheery chappy and doing his best to keep us going !

the lovely bread soon arrived.

Andy chose the 16oz prime rib - he was totally impressed

I had the filet and lobster ( so Andy could have the lobster)
It was nice but just a little overcooked

I then had the key lime pie dessert - this was really sharp and Andy ended up finishing it.

It was a nice meal, and gave Andy a real taste for Prime Rib for the rest of the holiday.

but we still prefer Longhorn's

And the bill ..

We left a $15 tip and then walked off the full tummies with a trip to Subway to order something for the boys . Which turned out not to be as easy as really should be. But thats one for the trippie.

Looking forward to reading this. Slightly aside from food though, we are looking to stay in a town house or similar around the Formosa gardens area-why did you think of Windsor palms? We have stayed in emerald island previously and love the area.

Bob Evans, W Irlo Bronson Hwy - Tues 25 August

Our arrival time here meant it was another split vote on brekky vs lunch

Andy went for the sunshine skillet with pancakes $8.49

An open-faced omelet filled with Sausage and home fries, topped with country gravy and shredded cheddar cheese.

I went for a Farmers Choice breakfast with brioche toast - ooh that toast was delicious $8.79

Connor went for the grilled cheese sandwich and fries $7.89

Jamie, because he wasnt hungry went for pancakes $4.99 - because of course they are so light and not filling at all

I also had an apple cinnamon blossom $1 to go and you can just see the bill $43 in the background for the food and drinks
