[The Pumpkins Dine Around Disney 2014] Day 14 - Do As Dreamers Do

The Pumpkins Dine Around Disney 2014 Trip Report Index! (And here is the Pre-Trip Report!)

Day 14: Do As Dreamers Do
Winter Summerland Miniature Golf; Magic Kingdom; Casey's Corner (Counter Service Lunch); Citricos (Signature Dining); Wishes
August 27th, 2014

The slackness on this trip report from me has been insane! We're 2 weeks from going back, and I've still not finished last year's report…. But here I am with the penultimate day, and to be honest, there isn't too much to say, as all we did was play miniature golf, have some hot dogs at Magic Kingdom whilst watching the parade, and then have dinner at Citricos, followed by watching Wishes from the boat dock at Grand Floridian. So this day on the trip report will be mostly photographs, (when is it not?) and not much in the way of words!

Winter Summerland was the miniature golf course for this year (last year we did Fantasia Gardens). There are two different courses here – Winter, and Summer. We played the winter course, which we could do for free with our park tickets. It is open daily from 10am to 11pm

Winter Summerland is located right next door to Blizzard Beach, which we had been to earlier in the holiday. We must have had a bit of a lie in, as we didn't get there until around midday, and spent an hour going around the course (judging by the time stamp on my photos). I remember it being pretty empty, which is always nice as you don't feel rushed as you work your way through each of the holes.

As always, the theming was brilliant, fun, and weird to see snow castles and snow men in the Florida sunshine!

There are 18 holes, and each on has a little sign, with a rhyme to tell you how to complete the hole – some are easier than others, but all are a lot of fun!

I love that Disney juxtapose the garish and bright, with the natural surroundings! We saw several lizards, and of course there are all the plants and trees.

From hole 15 you move undercover (good to get out of the heat!) and into a lodge decorated for Christmas, which I thought was awesome!

You even get a showering of snow at the end of the course! I can't remember who won this round of miniature golf at Winter Summerland, not that it matters now – it's all about the family fun!

We stopped off in the restrooms (aptly name, Snowmen and Sleighbelles) before heading back to the car to drive to Magic Kingdom.

Next stop… Magic Kingdom!
However, as we had a reservation later in the day at Citricos, we decided to valet park our car at Grand Floridian, and get the monorail to the park. Yes, we could have parked for free at the Magic Kingdom parking lot, and then just driven to the resort for our reservation, but it meant faff. And I needed less faff on this holiday. We saved a boatload as it was with free parking during our stay, thanks to staying at a Disney Resort, and on food spends with the Deluxe Dining Plan, so wasn't going to quibble about $15 for valet parking.

I was most excited seeing that Magic Kingdom had some of the Halloween decorations up!

Had our family photo taken between the pumpkins!

We walked down Main Street U.S.A., to Cinderella Castle to catch the showing of Dream Along With Mickey. This is my favourite show at Walt Disney World, and I couldn't go to Magic Kingdom without watching it at least once!

It doesn't matter how many times I've seen this, it always makes me cry… tears of joy I might add! I'm get so emotional seeing this show, and I'm not really sure why!

The video below is not from this day, but I'm including it anyway!

By now it was around 2:30, so we decided to go and grab some lunch at Casey's Corner, and be in a half decent spot for the Festival of Fantasy Parade at 3pm. The parade reaches this part of the park at about 3:15pm.

We had enough time to have a hot dog, and for Steve and Liam to run over to Plaza Ice Cream Parlour across the road for ice cream cookie sandwiches, before the parade reached us.

When it comes to the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan at a quick-service restaurant you are entitled to one entrée, one dessert and one non-alcoholic beverage for one credit per person.

We all got hot dogs – a different one each. All hot dogs at Casey's Corner comes with apple slices, or fries. We had fries.

Entrées…

Me: Barbecue Slaw Dog - topped with pulled pork, cole slaw and barbecue sauce ($9.99)

Him: Polish Sausage - topped with caramelized onions and stone-ground mustard ($9.49)

The Boy: Chili Cheese Dog - topped with chili and shredded cheddar cheese ($10.29)

Desserts…

Me: Cracker Jack ($2.59)

Him: Brownie ($2.99)

The Boy: Brownie ($2.99)

The hot dogs were good! I think the desserts (which come as part of the dining plan) ended up going in our backpack, never to be eaten, as we had the aforementioned ice cream cookie sandwiches instead!

**************************************************

Casey's Corner

Bill Total: $48.03 (3 Credits) {Tip: $0 – no tips at counter service}

DxDDP Running Totals: Bill: $3944.81 | Credits: 115/126 | Tips: $570

**************************************************

The ice cream cookie sandwiches are two freshly made chocolate chip cookies, served with your choice of hand-scooped ice cream. I had butter pecan, Steve had mint chocolate chip, and Liam had cookies 'n' cream. We bought these with snack credits – so worth it! They were lush!

**************************************************

Ice Cream Sandwiches – Plaza Ice Cream Parlour

Total: $16.82 (3 Credits)

DxDDP Running Snack Totals: $230.02 | Snack Credits: 57/84

**************************************************

The Festival of Fantasy Parade started rolling by. We were sat outside Casey's Corner, and had a view of the parade through the people which was fine, as we had already seen the parade in full earlier in our holiday. It was, however, the first time I realised that Dragon Maleficent breathed actual fire!

We had a wander in the shops, before deciding that we should go back to Old Key West, and pack our suitcases for our journey home the next day…

See Ya Real Soon! Said the pumpkins (anyone else miffed that one of the lettered pumpkins is a different colour?!), yes you will Magic Kingdom… in just a couple weeks at the time of writing this!

We got the monorail back to Grand Floridian, and popped in to see if we could move our dining reservation at Citrocos to a little bit later. They were able to do this for us, which was handy, as it gave us time to go home, pack our cases, and get changed for our night out. We decided we should celebrate our wedding anniversary again, since it was the 5 year milestone in 2014!

We also popped into Basin White which is on the monorail level, to buy some soaps to bring home as gifts. We also went into the other store here, can't remember the name, as we had been given a gift card with $100 on it, because our air conditioner had been leaking during our stay, and not properly fixed. I bought some little bracelet charms (no pic, sorry!) and some Halloween candy, using snack credits. Earlier in our hols, we were told at a different shop, that they couldn't be bought with snack credits, but here we were told they could. Confusion!

**************************************************

Halloween Candy (x6)

Total: $33.54 (6 Credits)

DxDDP Running Snack Totals: $263.56 | Snack Credits: 63/84

**************************************************

We had a bit of a nosey around the hotel before heading back to Old Key West. It's such a beautiful hotel, other than some Disney touches here and there, you wouldn't think you were at Walt Disney World!

Our return visit to Grand Floridian, we handed over the car keys to the valet (we didn't have to pay to valet again, it's valid all day) and went back inside. The band were playing, and the atmosphere was lovely.

The views out of the windows were amazing, and the pool at Grand Floridian is awesome – we watched for a while as the Mad Hatters' hat filled up with water and dumped it out again!

We walked around to Citricos, which is next door to Victoria & Alberts. That restaurant is definitely one on the bucket list! We were shown to our table which was near a window. You can't see Wishes from inside Citricos, but you can go out onto the boat dock and watch them from there, which we did after dinner.

Our waiter brought us a bread basket to start, with and made some suggestions on the menu. He was friendly, chatty, and attentive. I truly cannot remember this meal – that doesn't make it a bad thing, I'm sure it was wonderful, but it was so long ago now, my memory has faded! Just looking back and the photographs, and the description of the dishes, I'm pretty confident this was another great meal.

When it comes to the Deluxe Disney Dining Plan at a table service restaurant you are entitled to one appetizer, one entrée, one dessert and one non-alcoholic beverage per person (usually refillable) Signature restaurants are 2 credits per person.

Appetizers…

Me: PEI Mussels – Spiced Poma Rosa Tomato Sauce, Crisp Chardonnay, and Caramelized Garlic ($16)

Him: Charcuterie – Prosciutto de Parma, Sopressata, Dry Pork Coppa, Beef Bresaola, Palacios Chorizo, Domestic "Olli" Artisanal Salame, Pecorino Romano, Medjool Dates, Bread and Butter Pickles, and Marcona Almonds ($16)

The Boy: Arancini – Italian Street Food, Crispy Risotto with Sweet Italian Sausage, Creamy Mozzarella, and Poma Rosa Tomato Puree ($13)

Entrées…

Me: Crispy Pan Fried Veal Chop "Elephante" – Butter Mashed Boniato, Baby Rainbow Carrots, Roasted Cipollini Onions, Citrus Butter, and Madeira Sauce ($46)

Him: Red Wine-Braised Beef Short Ribs – Palacios Chorizo Risotto, Wilted Ice Spinach, and Hand-Harvested Mushrooms with Natural Jus ($46)

The Boy: Oak-Grilled Rib-Eye Filet of Beef – Roasted Marble and Creamy Blue Cheese Potatoes with Amber Pepper and Sun-Dried Tomato Relish ($46)

The food was beautifully presented, and I'm pretty sure we switched out the blue cheese potatoes on Liam's dish for regular mashed potato. I feel awful for not remembering much about this meal… it looks like it was delicious though!

Desserts…

Liam's dessert was most impressive! Even more so against ours which looked positively boring in comparison! We paid our bill, and we had just enough time to go down to the boat dock to watch Wishes!

Me: Tropical Fruit Crčme Brűlée – with Mango and Assorted Berries ($11)

Him: Seasonal Berry Gratin – with a Champagne-Grand Marnier Sabayon ($10)

The Boy: Warm Chocolate-Banana Torte – with Vanilla Ice Cream and Handcrafted Belgian Couverture Chocolate Crown ($12)

**************************************************

Citricos

Bill Total: $233.21 (6 Credits) {Tip: $43.79}

DxDDP Running Totals: Bill: $4178.02 | Credits: 121/126 | Tips: $613.79

**************************************************

The waiter took us out of the secret back entrance to save us walking all the way around, which was very kind of him. There were tables and chairs here to sit at, so we found one and sat back to wait for the fireworks display. They do not pipe the music in here, and it was really weird to watch Wishes without music… and it was amazing to see just how far back the fireworks actually go off, in relation to the castle!

On our walk back through Grand Floridian to the car, we stopped in Sandy Cove Gifts & Sundries, to spend some more of our snack credits, as we still had a fair few left to use! I took photos of these things once back at home, and to share on my trip report of course!

We bought (according to our receipt): Goofy Candy, Olaf Rice Krispie Treat, Mickey Rice Krispie Treat, Mickey's Kettle Corn x2, Anna & Elsa Cookie, Minnie's Bake Shop Cookies – Peanut Butter, Raspberry & White Chocolate, White Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Chip Supreme, and Shortbread Rounds.

**************************************************

Various Cookies & Candy

Total: $49.11 (11 Credits)

DxDDP Running Snack Totals: $312.67 | Snack Credits: 74/84

**************************************************

We drove back to Old Key West, knowing it was the last night of our holiday, and I imagine we would have been pretty down about that.

I'm going to try and get the final day up as soon as possible, and before we go on our next Walt Disney World holiday – Halloween in the Wilderness 2015!

Lovely end to the evening.

You squeezed a lot in today but it still seemed as though it was a relaxing day.

I felt the same when writing this out! I'm sure some of the Halloween decs will be up by then - we've always seen them in late August!

Thanks. I generally play with the shadows, highlight, brightness and curves.
