Thrillin',Chillin',Feet are Killin' Day 9: Part 2: The Fast and the Curious

Earlier today is here

After unpacking the bag from our night away, we settled in to watch some tv as it was still raining cats, dogs, lizards and probably a few gators.

The boys didn’t want to eat ( they were asleep on and off) – no doubt the buckets of Gatorade and popcorn, consumed in equal quantity had temporarily quashed their hunger.

Nothing like healthy lunches – and that was clearly NOTHING like a healthy lunch.

We didn’t fancy another drenching so opted to use what we had in the freezer – namely pizza, chicken pieces and fries.

Right posh nosh then

And another missed opportunity to eat out, but sometimes you just cant be bothered and being sat in your jammies, watching the rain, is a great holiday moment too!

The remains of lunch ( and a glass of wine , maybe)

And then I dived into this

Nomlicious

We had a quiet afternoon, some snoozing, watching TV and reading – and by 5pm we were refreshed and ready to go back out again

As we gathered up the lanyards, mine was no where to be seen

They had all been together when we left Universal – Andy had walked to reception with them all when enquiring about coming back later and using the parking.

He was sure he gave them to Jamie , who said not, and I was sure it would be in the car

But not

And so we had a fruitless 15 minutes checking and re checking the same places over and over again before concluding it was not to be found.

Good job we hadn’t renewed the passes earlier then !

It did put a bit of a moody on the start of the journey – we hate losing anything like that but we were sure it would turn up at the hotel .

It was quite busy on the drive back to Universal – you know, 4 lanes, fast traffic, no apparent rules and then suddenly the cars in front seemed to scatter and all start braking and thank goodness Andy reacted quickly

Because right in front of us

Is a car

Facing the WRONG way

Yep – that’s right, middle lane – headfirst into oncoming traffic

The guy driving managed to get across to the grass verge hugging his steering wheel and praying – he was one completely lucky dude.

No idea what happened – he must have spun or maybe had a blow out

But his luck was definitely in

The kids looked like this

And everyone else just kept on driving – and so ended near miss number one .

Arriving in one piece and kissing the pavement as we arrived

oh maybe not we were checking the lot we had parked in earlier to see if the missing lanyard was there – but it wasn’t

No sign of the wretched thing at reception or concierge, nor in the clubroom, nor on the path to the parking

It is gone – consigned to the place that all lost things go – annoyingville.

It did make me and him grumpy, secretly blaming each other for its disappearance.

But we went over to guest services and after establishing that it was in fact better to buy two new tix for us for next year but upgrade the boys to Aps ( this cost around £200 to upgrade them but worked out around £40 cheaper than getting new tickets next year for them) we felt better.

And even better-er ( not a real word) was that they printed me a new pass.

Not that I needed it as we didn’t go back into the parks but it did at least restore cordial relations

An outburst of hangriness was imminent and I was very keen to make the most of the Landry’s card, plus $25 for Andy’s birthday month.

We are seated straight away, its quite busy but we get a booth at the back near the loos.

There is a problem though – the card didnt arrive in time ( actually its never arrived at all ) but I had a print out of the email for the birthday voucher.

And I had the code you need

Except

We were experiencing one of these moments

Even the manager couldn’t get the system to recognise us

No way am I letting $50 off the bill escape me so I am firmly standing my ground, much to the amusement/horror/embarrassment of the kids

I am adamant that if I can access my emails I can show them the account so eventually they take me off to the office where I then completely forget the password to the Landry’s account and it takes me about 4 goes but then bingo

The account materialises and the guy gets the account reference he needs

But then they only credit the $25 sign up amount

So further negotiation takes place

And finally the birthday $25 is also credited

Woohoo – I think I earned my dinner after all that malarkey

We always enjoy eating here – the movie quiz was fun

Jamie surprised us all with his knowledge – and then informed us the answers were evident in clues around the table – doh !

Andy had Shrimpers Heaven

I had Mama's southern fried chicken - oh this is heavenly and massive portions !

The boys had chicken burgers

And we all shared the dessert sampler

After deducting the $50, the bill was $57 and we earned 75 Landry points - the bill doesnt reflect the actual price of the meals - for example mine was almost $20 but comes up on here as $8 because of the discount

And the bill would have been less if we had realised the beer had been ordered in the souvenir glass !

Great fun as always.

We headed back to the hotel – love Citywalk at night , such a great atmosphere, always feel sad on the last watertaxi ride

The hotel was busy – John Waite was doing a gig so the whole area near reception had been transformed into a stage and the parking outside was overflowing

We headed back home

Bit of a mixed stay really – we all enjoyed it but it hadn’t exactly gone quite as planned !

I think with only having the one night, we didn’t get to enjoy it as much as we do with a second night.

So it was goodbye to Universal and HRH and we were home by 9.45

We were a bit concerned by reports of rain starting to arrive over the weekend so made a spur of the moment decision to go to Busch tomorrow

Yes, all those days lazing about and now we end up with 3 park days in a row – I blame the planner in the family myself

With the prospect of an early start we all turned in before 11pm. Rocking party animals eh !

The next day is HERE

Sun about the rain but as you say sometimes it's nice to just chill ... Well you are on holiday. The dessert sampler in bubba grumps is delicious!

I completely agree about the relaxing, eating and watching the rain - one of my favourite nights was doing just that in bed watching Monster Inc on our last trip.

Your HRH day sounds exhausting but amazing - you packed so much in. Great to hear you gave some new rides a go and loved them

That rain is biblical - but could you have got much wetter after those IOA rides? Now that is a question.

Pleeeasse tell me where that cupcake is from it looks so yummy x

It is a really nice dessert, I love the sampler dishes. And storm watching is only fun on holiday ( as long as it's not too often )

We had a great time at universal and so pleased we did some new things, even if we were drenched! I don't think we could have got much wetter but that rain, it was like a monsoon!

The cupcake came from DisneyQuest , red velvet cheesecake

Well, we just got back from two weeks at WDW, and I just wanted to let you know - we borrowed two of your 'excellent ideas' from your trip reports, and they worked out wonderfully!

First of all, I bought a pair of cheap, pink fluffy ballet-style slippers to wear on the plane (to the intense mortification of my family - tee-hee!), and they were AMAZINGLY comfortable, much more so than my usual trainers, so this is an idea that is definitely here to stay.

Then secondly, we bought a litre bottle of Baileys from Duty Free on our way there, and then drank it in hot chocolate most nights, sitting on the balcony of our room at Old Key West (until the day a GIANT lizard was scuttling about on the ceiling, when we beat a hasty retreat inside in case it fell on one of us! ).

Lovely ideas, thank you so much for sharing and sorry we nicked them!

Love it !
I cant understand why slippers on the flight aren't a Dibb staple like Kiplings and Dibbers Row - I mean , its sooooo comfy
And the family embarrassment - well thats just extra brownie points !

And - total envy

Baileys
Hot Chocolate
Old Key West

Thats got to be a heavenly combination right there - total holiday jealousy

But not so much giant lizards

Am glad my quirkiness gave you inspiration Now I can tell the boys that they need not to be quite so ashamed of me
