We're Doing a Sequel! [May 2015] Day 11 *Hollywood Studios/Flying Fish*
We're Doing a Sequel! Day 11 *Hollywood Studios and Flying Fish*
For the Index, click here. For the Pre Trip Report, click here. So I'm finally back with another day! As we didn't have any plans until late in the afternoon, we decided on a lie in followed by a dip in the pool. It made a nice change from our usual early starts, and I've made plans for a few more of these mornings when we visit again in October! We noticed the hot tub was empty after getting out and making our way back to the room, so we popped in for a bit. It was really nice, but with the heat being 35 degrees it got too hot too quick. I wish we'd had a chance to jump in on a night time but it was always so busy, and I didn't fancy getting in with a bunch of strangers. Once back in the room we had breakfast - the rice krispie treats that we'd bought at Goofy's Candy Co the night before. They were SO nice, and I'll be making room for one every trip in the future. After getting showered and made up for our reservation at Flying Fish later in the evening, we hopped on the bus to Hollywood Studios at around 1pm. It had been a good few hours since breakfast, so upon arrival we made a beeline for Starring Rolls. Looking back I have no idea how I managed to eat so much food in a day We grabbed a sandwich each, some fruit and a cupcake. Me, having eyes bigger than my belly and all, opted for the famous Butterfinger cupcake. As expected I couldn't finish it all (especially after the massive sandwich) but every bite was worth it. Lewis polished off his red velvet cupcake but couldn't manage to finish mine. I really do enjoy Starring Rolls as a counter service location. You get huge portions for your quick service credits! We made our way over to Toy Story Midway Mania for our FP next, but it turned out to have broken down when we arrived. They assured us we could use our FastPass later on, and we headed to the Animation building instead to participate in a drawing class. Going off the fact I have no photos of our drawings here, I believe this is the one where we ended up with Olaf. I messed mine up pretty early on and was really annoyed with myself - so much so I didn't finish it! I believe he was the one character I really didn't want to draw. When we got out we made it to the Beauty and the Beast show just in time for it starting, but we were sat right at the very back. The view wasn't great and we weren't in the shaded area or where the air con is, so we were baking. We enjoyed it, but I'd make sure to get there earlier next time. We had plans to go see what Character Palooza was all about - I'd read up on it on Kenny the Pirate and the characters were supposed to be meeting outside Tower of Terror at 4:30pm. It was now 3:30pm, so we headed over for our Toy Story Mania FastPass before taking a seat near the Tower of Terror. Character Palooza turned out to be a dud. I'm aware that this is supposed to be a "spontaneous" character greet, but we waited an hour in the 35 degree heat before any cast members came out and told us that it "might be happening here, might not be." I was so hot Lewis went and got me a frozen mango drink from a Joffreys coffee stand and at 4:50pm we decided that we weren't going to meet any characters and made our way over to Indiana Jones to use our last FastPass instead. It was our first time seeing the show. Lewis enjoyed it, I thought it was okay. I've definitely seen better Disney shows but then again I've never actually seen the movies, so maybe I couldn't appreciate it enough? At this point I'd never seen Star Wars either, and now I love it and can't wait to experience it in the parks haha. We exited the park shortly after for our ADR at Flying Fish. Our reservation for Flying Fish was 6:30pm, and I think we were either bang on time or 5 minutes late. We were seated straight away though and our server J.R. wasn't too far behind. We were provided with our own anniversary menus as a keepsake, and J.R. brought us over some bread and some complimentary champagne, as we were celebrating 6 years together this trip. I don't really drink wine or champagne, but if it's been given complimentary I feel bad if I leave it! The bread was delicious. It was nice and light with leek throughout and I could have had more! I'm not a lover of seafood, so when it came to ordering I chose the steak. I substituted the side however and went for potato gratin alongside it. Lewis ordered the lamb. I don't really eat lamb (get me, fussy eater) but it was really nicely presented and he loved it. My steak was massive (much bigger than the photo lets on) and I could only get through half of it before I was in a meat coma. It was enjoyable, but I don't think a steak would ever be my favourite meal. I'd already decided before getting there that dessert for me would be the Caramelised Banana Napoleon - crisp phyllo, banana mousse, crème caramel, exotic fruit coulis, and bitter chocolate. It definitely lived up to the hype that was built up around it. It wasn't overly stodgy and filling as desserts often are, and I think I made a good choice. It was full of flavour, too! Lewis had the Sinful Nutty Chocolate Délice Creation. It consisted of dark chocolate-hazelnut chiffon, peanut butter-white chocolate mousse, raspberry coulis, and chocolate sorbetto on sea salt-laced raspberry rocks. Totally stuffed, we paid using our credits and left a 20% tip of $23.20 as J.R. was great. We exited the restaurant to a beautiful sunset over the Boardwalk. We called it a night after that, getting back to French Quarter at around 9pm. Tomorrow: Florida Mall, The Boardwalk and Trattoria al Forno!

Your food pictures make me so hungry! That sandwich from Starring Rolls looks ace, making a note of that for next time as we struggled for QS meals at HS!

Brilliant day. I love Starring Rolls cupcakes but they are very sweet especially on top of all your sweetness so far...you would think you were on holiday! Flying Fish looks amazing, lovely touch with the fizz. How beautiful is that photo of the sunset 💕.
