Howling @ the Horror 2015 - Day 5 - Clearwater and a Change of Plan

Back to Day 4

So the plan today was Pier 60 -for a day at the beach to enjoy the sunset festival...

Although we didn't get up until gone 8am we were still a little tired and we had to drag ourselves down for the free breakfast (not brilliant but very edible milk, cereals and yoghurts etc) before heading out.

We love Clearwater and Pier 60 and after a couple of SatNav wrong turns (which took us past some amazing houses and the Church of Scientology headquarters) we spotted dunkin doughnuts/Baskin Robbins for a snack or two and a chat about what we wanted to do... Which at that point included searching out some of the dolphins from a local art trail

I left Mr W taking some pictures of the local street art, whilst I popped into the local Publix for a free map and sun cream (which we had forgot to pack)

and disovered we were only a short hop over a bridge from Pier 60... hmm... So we hopped over the bridge and discovered 3 things:

(1)They are in the middle of refurbishing the Pier area and all the art and crafts vibes are nowhere to be seen
(2) There is not much carparking anymore, as they keep building hotels on top of them
(3) The little carparking we found at 1pm on the Saturday of Columbus Day weekend, was $25 for 3 hours - we felt we had no choice but to pay out.

Mr W wanted to go and see Hulk Hogan's shop so we headed up there first, I know he has had his problems but he is still a huge icon for people who followed WWE in the 80s.

We walked back to the pier and thought we ought to use our three hours wisely, so decided to skip food and head to the beach, It was heaving, there was little spare space, no wonder the car parks were full. We looked around but there were no spare seats, umbrella or tents.

We went for a paddle and chatted through what to do next. I hadn't been able to book any boat trips and we decided that as it was a holiday weekend, we probably wouldn't get into much. As the Pier 60 Sunset Festival area was currently a building site, maybe the best thing to do was to go back to the hotel and find something else in Tampa to do (we knew of other Halloween events which our guide last night had recommended to us).

But before that we went have a bite to eat, because of the queues in some of the places to eat, we decided to hit hooters (which we love... and eat at a couple of times each holiday).

This was a brilliant choice, we had great views on the outside balcony of all the cars coming onto the island... and the few that were leaving...) The food is solid, homely and great for a light lunch.

We got back to the hotel at 4pm and after some discussion it was clear all we wanted was a quick snooze. About an hour later, I went down to reception for some ice and see what they suggested we did that night... what they suggested amazed me...

I mentioned yesterday we had booked a flexible package for the hotel room, and when I was chatting to reception, I said we would like to come back next week for another does of HoS and had they any rooms? they suggested as they hadn't finished housekeeping, we could move our second night until next Saturday free of charge, but could we be out by 5.30? as they were overbooked tonight and had someone coming back then.

I flew up the stairs, woke Mr W up, explained the plan whilst packing and just was we were doing the final sweep, housekeeping turned up and we were on our way...

As we headed straight back to the I4 this time, we only then found out just how easy it could be getting to Championsgate from Tampa

We stopped at Championsgate for drinks and snacks and spent a lovely quiet evening in the Villa, planning our night back at HoS the next week.
