Howling @ the Horror October 2015 - Day 11 - Back to Howl-O-Scream

Back to Day 10

You may remember from early in my trip report that we were due to do a full weekend in Tampa and but changed our minds and moved our second night by a week to do a second dose of HoS. Today was the day we were going back.

We decided on a casual morning by the pool again, this time joined by a little lizard which we called Fin (another Sharknado reference)

After grabbing some lunch at Sweet Tomatoes on the 192 before heading back down the I4. We were much more confident in the run this time and it was also an hour exactly by the time we pulled up at the hotel. If you are looking for somewhere to stop for BG, I can recommend the Holiday Inn Express. It is just across the road to the park, it has a free shuttle and breakfast and small outdoor pool. It cost us abotut £55 per night.

We headed straight out to the park as we wanted to make the most of the Animals this time. Our first stop was the Cheetahs where they explained how they make feeding time interesting. Basically this involves a pully and making them run very fast.

We have a real interest in this area as Bristol Zoo is just developing a new park just up the road from where we live and they have not long had Cheetahs so we were lookign forward to seeing how the run that they plan to build will work.

Our next stop was a real treat for me, a trip on the Serengeti Railway. It has never been running whilst we have been there so I was really looking forward to this as the cable cars were out of commission.

I would say this probably the best trip we have had to BG ever, we learnt a lot about the animals we saw and enjoyed the trip around the park. This park is growing on me and I am looking forward to going back next time.

As we knew a little more about the park this time and Howl-O-Scream, we knew where to go for our freight feast. BG give you a punch card for the Fast Passes where they punch out the house as you go round and for everything else there is a wrist band! We had one for the food and early entry until 8.30p, we had another to prove we were over 21 and one to prove we had paid for the party.

We enjoyed the food and the show as much as we had done the week before, this time we were sitting further back so we could see a lot more of the show.

With the freight feast you get early access to the houses 30 minutes before anyone else and then front of the line passes until 8.30pm, so its possible to do them all with no queues and be finished just before 9pm (if you estimate a 30 minute queue at the Zombie Containment Unit - an interactive, shoot at Zombies house not covered by fast passes but is worth the queue for a bit of silly fun).

This is what we did and then spend an hour chilling round the park, enjoying the scare zones, having a couple of beers and soaking up the atmostphere. Their scare zones are brilliant and there is so much going on and roaming hordes all over the place.

At about 1015 we started doing the houses again with our fast passes and finished just before Midnight having had a brilliant evening again

My favourite house was the Death Water Bayou, which was based in a funeral home and followed restless, insane spirits coming to haunt you. Because of the ealy entrance, we did almost on our own. It smelt musty and dank and the voodoo vibe was perfect.

Mr W's was the Basement, where the secrets of Momma's Meat Award Winning Pies were uncovered. Fantastic detail from beginning to end, great effects. One of the scareactors recognised me when we were going through the second time and really made a point of going for me... you needed to do this house a couple of times to enjoy the detailing.

We have fallen in love with HoS and will be going back in 2017
