Triple Treat Tour July 2016 Day 6 : Part 2 Capitol Hill & Clyde's of Georgetown

Earlier today is just HERE

We headed off to explore Capitol Hill

This morning the skies had been clear blue and sunshine

Over lunch it had clouded over and become terribly humid

A thunderstorm was forecast for 4pm

The heat was oppressive and really draining

No its not raining

Seriously, loads of people were doing this and using umbrellas as sun shades

Good job I wear glasses the amount of times I almost had my eye poked out

JUST GET A HAT PEOPLE

Andy wanted to look round the Library of Congress and with my love of Libraries I should have made the effort

But I couldn’t face the steps or potential whingefest

I know, how feeble

Definitely one for a return trip though

We saw a glimpse of the Supreme Court

Across to the Capitol Building

Shame about the scaffolding – wouldn’t happen at Disney !

If we had been here yesterday we might have seen it a bit busier – that was the day the head of the FBI had been summoned to explain the decision not to pursue the Hillary Clinton email thing. It was all over the news. No sign of Hils, or Donald …

Plenty of interest with the tour group …. And can you see the guy on the bicycle

He was absolutely hilarious, he had a megaphone and was indulging in good natured banter with everyone

We just sat and listened to him for a while

Reservoir Dogs reflect on American politics

Stunning building

And then they were all gone

From the other side

We didn’t stop in the visitor centre, another one for next time

I think by now the impending change in weather plus a bit of tiredness from all the walking this morning was catching up .

We decided to call it a day and find the nearest subway

Carrying along the main route

We stopped briefly in the Native American museum – us to rest our legs and have a bit of a break, Andy to have a look around as he had wanted to look around the one in New York.

It did look interesting but seemed to be arranged so you start at the top and work down … just not enough energy for that today !

Pressing on to the subway , we passed this row of food trucks

At last !

We were all absolutely shattered and a bit niggly and a lack of concentration meant we hopped on the wrong train – the right colour, just the wrong direction.

Easily sorted and we were back at Dupont Circle for the walk to the hotel

It was really dark by now and after a quick stop at the 7Eleven for some Big Gulp drinks we ran the rest of the way as the first big fat drops of rain fell

These were enormous !

I stopped in the coffee shop for a lovely iced latte and by the time we got up to our room just before 4pm , it was raining

But it soon passed

I think everyone had a crafty nap and by 5. 45 we were back out the front getting a cab to Clydes in Georgetown for our dinner

The cab cost $10, and we arrived right on time for our reservation for just after 6

It was packed out.

So we were in the back

We had some lovely bread and you can see my Wild Peach tea cocktail in the background.

After much menu perusal ….

The boys all has bacon cheeseburgers

The buns were very " seedy" apparently !

I had grilled chicken salad

This was lovely.

Andy had the brick roast chicken with pearl barley

This was also nice ... We thought we would go for something lighter with all the Orlando food ahead of us!

Nick had caramel cheesecake

I had creme brulee

Both very nice but rich

And the bill..plus We left $20 tip .

It was very nice and a change to eat somewhere a bit more upscale but with prices that were on a par with everywhere else.

We then had lovely walk back through Georgetown to the hotel

Lovely evening vibe along here , really liked it

Lot of posh boutiques

And then nearer to the hotel , just some interesting buildings

Including the national affairs office for the church of scientology ..

The teens headed off to their rooms and we popped into the bar around 8.30 for a re run of last nights daiquiris and beers

Of course, it was Friday night and lots of weekenders were arriving
Hadnt factored that into the booking !

Hotel was rammed with increasingly screechy and ever so slighty – ( no , I mean, completely ratted) tipsy laydees

Hope they are not on our corridor then ……………….

Back in the room it was a quick re pack ready for the flight tomorrow and a reminder to the boys, strictly no washbags in hand luggage ( unlike the train journey).

Remember that, strictly no washbags ….

Ah, all ready for a glorious night of undisturbed kip then

Ahem

Tune in to tomorrow to see how that goes

Right HERE

Crikey, another busy day of walking. I havent been to Arlington but your photos remind me of the war cemetaries in Europe I have visited. So many headstones and all those lives. Sobering stuff.

Good move avoiding the library stairs though ('pick your battles' definitely is the teen mum mantra i think). You must have been tired in the heat but thank goodness for cocktails hey? It seems like there was so much to see and you got a good little taster for next time.

I can sense there is another incident looming so look forward to hearing what the Reservoir Dogs got up to next xx

The heat and humidity sounded exhausting! Hard work to walk around in that!

Your meal looked nice. Had to laugh at the seedy buns! That's the kind of thing I would complain about as a child Hehe

Do you think in hindsight it was the wrong time of year to go with the heat or did it not damper your spirit ? It's something I would love to do with the kids but am not so sure now !

Another sore feet day by the sounds of it!

Lots of sight seeing - great!

Dinner looked fab, and obviously the cocktail sounds lush!
