A Whole New World, July 2016! ~ travel day.
Pre travel day here July 2nd 2016 I woke at 5:30am with Liam walking around the room! he was talking and I could here him say "everything is where it should be!" I got him back into bed and tried to fall back to sleep but my mind was on not being able to check in online last night, I only really dozed for an hour then I got up and got showered. Everyone else woke at 8am and Liam had no memory of sleepwalking through the night! Once dressed we all made our way down for breakfast in the the restaurant, it was the usual cooked and continental, all very nice. I must have been too excited because I don't have any photos of said brekkie! We went back to the room and grabbed our luggage and waited for the airport shuttle. At 10:15am we were on our way, the boys decided to try the top deck. Once at the airport we queued up at bag drop, the line was pretty big but moved quickly. I explained that I could only check the boys in online and it wouldn't let me do it. The Aerlingus staff member told me I was probably selected for extra checks... great! Relieved of our big cases we went to have a little browse in duty free and get a drink to mark the start of our holiday! Little stop in Mac... It was getting on for 1pm now and our flight was at 2:20pm so we made our way to Pre clearance. I was indeed asked to wait for extra checks and had to take my bag, shoes, laptop, phone and camera all off to the side. The items were all swabbed and I was felt up by a lady officer All okay, phew! On to get our photos taken and fingerprints scanned by a lovely US customs man, we were through in 10mins... so fast. We went to our gate and sat by the window and watched the planes come and go for a while. There wasn't much to do here with only a few small shops and the toilets! At about 1:45pm there was an announcement to say the flight was delayed until 3pm Then another to say 3:40pm  Then another to say 4pm Finally we were able to board over 2 hours late Once on board the flight didn't actually start moving till 5:10pm! Finally... The flight was pretty uneventful I tried to watch a few things but I couldn't get my mind to settle. The food came round It was okay, the kids didn't eat much. I then watched Wolf of Wall Street, I enjoyed it and it was over 3 hours long! Joseph had started to feel a bit sick so I was trying to give him some medicine and take his mind off it. Thankfully he was grand but I could see he was struggling that last hour of the flight. We finally landed and it was 2am our time, I was sooooo tired! Once we got all our luggage onto a trolley, we went to find the Magical Express, that was fun, having never been to Orlando Int we had no clue and this side A, side B malarkey was so confusing to us in our tired, temperamental state! Anyway we finally got there after being sent in the wrong direction by a cleaner... oh how we laughed. We started to get a bit excited once we saw the Disney sign, eeeek. I found it so strange seeing OKW when we dropped others off there, I'd read so much and looked at so many pictures of all the resorts it felt very surreal to be seeing them in real life. We got to SSR very tired and hungry, it was now just after 11pm and we were told the food areas were now all closed We got our magic bands, our resort map and off we went to find Bell services. When we told them our room was in the Grandstand number 8623 they told us we could walk quicker than they could drive us and that we had an excellent room right at the pool. Yayyy. We walked the short distance to our room, we were just cream crackered now and didn't even take it all in. I found a bag of crisps in my hand luggage which we all ate and then I had to set up the sofa bed, we were all a bit grumpy and Nigel and Joseph said they would never come to America again they felt the journey was just too tough. We all fell into bed, me feeling a little sad but hoping tomorrow would make them see it was all worth it. Here are the only photos I got from SSR that night! Magic Kingdom & Trex

We were on the same flight as you... I was so annoyed about that delay:angry: they would have know about it as the plane was late coming in. I feel if we had been told earlier then we wouldn't have had to sit in those awful seats for so long and then the flight seemed to drag for me.
Hope everyone feels better tomorrow looking forward to reading along |

Oh wow, it's a small world!
We were really delayed for over 3 hours by the time we took off, but because we were on the runway we can't claim our money back! They're so crafty I think they should have offered people a voucher for coffee/tea and a sandwich during the long wait at the gate. Waking up in Disney the next morning made it easy to forget the dreadful flight! Thanks for reading along x |

I know! I said the same thing to my DH when we were on the plane... They just snuck in there so we couldn't claim! Totally agree about the voucher or a free wine or 2 on the plane would a soften the blow and I would have been abit happier:

Looking forward to reading the rest of the report!
What a horrible delay though As the delay compensation is an EU rule, I guess the same would apply to Ireland - it's not about when you sat on the plane, or when you took off, it's about the actual flight arrival time. Or, more importantly, what time the doors of the plane were opened in Orlando. Was that more than 3 hours later than scheduled? |

DH and myself have our 'holiday argument' once the kids are tucked in the day we travel. It can be total hell and I'm not good when tired, loose all patience and capabilities!

I have to admit that the travel day was just awful but the 3 hour delay actually helped us, cause by the time we got to bed it was almost midnight and we all slept till 7am the next morning! I was expecting to wake at stupid o'clock with jetlag.
I've just went on Flightstats and we were due to take off at 2:20pm we took off at 5:04pm! They did make up for it in the air because we were due to land at 6:20pm and actually landed at 8:45pm! I'm glad we aren't the only ones, I had thought travel day would be nice and relaxed with lots of good movies, wine and food... I was so naive! The delay was a real pain, but I'm glad to say it didn't ruin the holiday and was soon forgot about. Thanks for reading along x |

So glad you got checked in... what a pain with the extra checks though. What a long day that was for you. Hope everyone is happier in the morning, after all it's Disney!
