Day 11 - outlets and DHS

This was our Fantasmic day so an afternoon/evening at DHS was planned. We had a lazy start and ate breakfast in the villa again.
At lunch time we were in the I-drive Premium Outlets but we were loath to spend too much on food here after previous food court disasters plus we had an early dinner booked. We ended up sharing pizza from Sbarro.
We got a Hawaiian and a sausage and pepperoni getting the meal deal with one so we got some garlic bread sticks. We shared the drink using our collapsible cups. These were nice and filled enough of a hole to keep us going. I can’t find the receipt for this one but it wasn’t expensive.

Dinner was our Fantasmic Dining Package at Mama Melrose. We hadn’t been here before as Marie and I tend to be happy with Hollywood & Vine but I suspected Mum would prefer having her food brought to her so we gave this a try.

They do the coconut elixir here but not as a free refill. Three of us had that and Marie had sprite but also got a bellini.

We were brought some bread to start which was ciabatta with olive oil so we didn’t eat much.

The Fantasmic package here allows you to have 3 courses although the dessert is a set sampler.
I chose the calamari. This was really nice but huge and no one wanted to try any! I ended up having to leave some so I’d have room for my main.

Dad and Marie had Caesar salad which again was huge but nice.

Mum had minestrone soup which she said was lovely. Sorry for the blurry photo.

For mains Dad and I had the strip steak which comes with macaroni cheese. This was really nice but not the best of the steaks I’d had this trip.

Marie had pasta with chicken and a marinara sauce. She said it was ok but what do you expect? It’s pasta marinara! She wasn’t very adventurous with her menu choice!

Mum had the Saltimbocca which is pork tenderloin with prosciutto and served with mashed potatoes. She really enjoyed this. Blurry photo again so a bit pointless. I’ve included an internet photo below it!

Dessert was a sampler of Tiramisu, Lemon Cheesecake topped with passion fruit pearls and Valencia Blood Orange Cake. Sadly I wasn’t impressed. Marie ate my Tiramisu as she’s obsessed with it but I didn’t really enjoy the other two. I don’t think anyone did.

Overall I enjoyed Mama Melrose and would go back but Marie wasn’t overly excited by it. We like doing the Fantasmic package though and the seating area has been moved to the centre so I think we’ll do it next year but try Brown Derby.
This should have cost $215 including the Bellini. It cost us 4 TS credits so good value on DDP. We left the full 20% tip as our server had been excellent.

Day 12 - Epcot

Initially a Universal day that had been swapped round so we had no ADRs planned today. We did hope for an early start as it was morning EMH at Epcot but Mum had no intention of being up that early. We had breakfast in the villa again and set out for Epcot in time for our first FP at 9.40am.
Mid-morning we headed to Club Cool for our free drinks on the way to Sunshine Seasons. I don’t think I mentioned this on our first Epcot day but we had went to Club Cool and introduced Mum to Beverly! She really liked it and it was her go to drink at Club Cool whenever we popped in! We were getting our drinks when an American couple watched Mum expectantly as she filled up on Beverly. We had to point out that we’d tried to trick her the week before but it had backfired! The one I preferred was the South African one.

So after CC we went to Sunshine Seasons for a snack. When I added up what we had with drinks I realised we were one short to use 3 QS credits instead of snacks so we got a bottled drink.

We got 2 Strawberry Shortcake, a fruit Danish and a cinnamon swirl. We also got a hot drink each. I don’t remember who ate what but I had a Strawberry Shortcake. This had been on my hit list for a while and it was awesome. I love the simplicity of sponge, cream and strawberry. This filled a hole and used up 3 QS credits.

We were still in Future World at lunchtime and no-one was overly fussed about eating in World Showcase specifically so we just went to the Electric Umbrella.

Dad and Marie had the 1/3 lb Angus Cheeseburger.

I had the French Dip burger which was topped with brisket and crispy onions. This was really nice for a change and I enjoyed it.

Mum had chicken nuggets.

They all came with both fries and apple slices for some reason plus we all chose fruit for dessert as we didn’t fancy the other options. The apple slices came with us then got thrown out later. The fruit salad wasn’t great.

This was an adequate meal and we were happy enough with it. Cost us 4 QS credits.

We popped into Karamel Kuche in Germany but didn't buy anything.

Halfway round WS we decided we wanted a drink. Handily the closest place was the Fife & Drum in the American Pavilion so I had another item on my hit list, the American Dream. This is frozen strawberry, vanilla ice cream and frozen blue raspberry. Mum had it too. This was lovely and I really enjoyed it.

Dad got plain vanilla ice cream (no picture) and Marie didn’t bother.

This cost us 3 snack credits.

Now please don’t give me a row but I have no photos of any of this stuff. We popped into the the Boulangerie Patisserie in France for some cakes for later. We used 6 snacks on 2 chocolate eclairs, 3 napoleans and a strawberry tart. Marie also paid OOP for a Café Liegeois which was coffee & cream mousse and she thought may be similar to Tiramisu. It wasn’t. We ate these over the course of a few days and the only one I really enjoyed was the strawberry tart. I’ll be looking out for that next year!

Just found these pictures of our treats in another folder!

Dinner was a take away from Riverside Mill. We fancied pizza and decided to pop across for the large pizza you can get for 2 QS credits. We also subbed the desserts for fries. We thought this might not be enough for 4 (stupid us, it’s not like we’ve never had it!) so we also tried the make your own pasta. We went for fettucine alfredo with chicken. This time we didn’t sub dessert as I wanted to try the magic cookie bar. We got 3 cartons of milk as our drinks as we were running low for breakfast. No idea why I've no picture of the pizza.

Found the pizza picture!

This was more than enough food for the 4 of us and quite a bit of the pizza got left. It cost us 3 QS credits. I really like the POR food court and am looking forward to staying there next year. The magic cookie bar was really nice and I ate it over several days. Dessert was the cakes we’d gotten from France.

Still enjoying your report. Funnily enough I am not a fan of Mama Melrose puddings - I think we will try the Hollywood Brown Derby next time as well.
That strawberry shortcake looks great - I would like to try that next time. I find lots of the cakes too sickly but that looks nice and light.
We really enjoyed POR food court when we visited, the create your own pasta station was great, so much choice. I do like staying delux but none of them have as good a food court as POR.

The Strawberry Shortcake was nice and light which is why I enjoyed it. Everything always seems so stodgy over there. The only thing I would say is the strawberries appeared to be frozen ones defrosted so weren't the best.

Day 13 - DS and AK

Today was our last full day staying at OKW and therefore our second last of DDP. We had a later start planned with an afternoon at AK so decided to head to DS for lunch with our 26 snacks and 14 QS credits! We had breakfast in the room then lunch was at Wolfgang Pucks Express again. I’m afraid that despite the varied menu we all had the same as we’d had the first visit. Mum and Dad got the chicken salad sandwich again, I got the bacon wrapped meatloaf and Marie got mac n cheese. Marie also got a side of French fries. My thinking was that the meatloaf was $17 so I probably wouldn’t pay for it later in the week so best to get it while it was free. Dad had thought he and Mum were sharing the chicken sandwich and when he found out they were getting one each he said if he’d known he’d have gotten the meatloaf. I felt bad so we split the sandwich and meatloaf between us. The meatloaf was amazing again and the sandwich was really nice.

For dessert we got a variety of things we could take away for dessert – 2 cookies, a brownie and a rice crispie treat. Some of these Mum and Dad took for travelling. No pictures.

This again would have been nearly $85 but cost us 4 QS credits and 1 snack. We spent the majority of our remaining credits in Goofy’s Candy Co. and Ghirardelli. We kept a few for me and Marie to use the following day. We got 19 items in Ghirardelli which would have cost $81 but cost us 17 snack credits due to the 5 bars for 4 deal.

Dinner was our final TS credit at Yak & Yeti. We’ve eaten here a couple of times and really enjoyed it for something different. We arrived 15 minutes early for our ADR but were seated within 5 minutes at a window table.

For drinks I had a Shanghai Lemonade passion fruit flavour.

Dad had an Everest Refresher, also passion fruit flavour. This was a flavoured water. He also got a tap water.

Mum and Marie just had Sprite and Diet Coke but Marie also ordered a Big Bamboo cocktail which was Malibu, Bacardi, Banana Liqueur and tropical fruit juices.

We didn’t order any starters as we knew we wouldn’t have room. For mains I had Bhaktapur Duck – roasted half duckling with BBQ plum sauce and jasmine rice. This was lovely but last time I’d had the wasabi glazed duck that used to be on the menu and I preferred that. The jasmine rice had a really nice flavour that I wasn’t expecting though.

Marie had sweet and sour chicken with brown rice. She really enjoyed this.

Mum and Dad both had honey chicken. Dad with brown rice.

Mum subbed her choice of jasmine or brown rice for chicken fried rice. I had been offered chicken fried rice as a substitution 2 years ago however there was a bit of confusion about this initially as the server said it couldn’t be subbed as it was $2 more than the other rice options. Mum said she was happy to pay the extra so that was fine. I didn’t bother subbing my rice as I didn’t want to pay what I thought would be $5.99 extra when I wasn’t fussed but it turned out we were only charged the extra $2.

For dessert I had the Mango Pie which I’ve had before and enjoyed again.

Dad and Marie both had the sorbet.

Mum had the pineapple upside down cake and ordered a cup of tea to have with it. This is where we had a bit of a funny “told you so” moment with Mum. The tea arrived in an unusual little tea pot with an Asian tea style cup. Well we were in the Yak & Yeti so why not. Mum started complaining that it wasn’t a proper cup of tea while I tried to convince her it was just in a fancy pot! She hadn’t been given milk so of course I said she should just ask. So after getting her milk and pouring her tea she admitted it was a lovely cup of tea!

This would have cost us $142 with the tea and cocktail $14 of that. We paid 4 TS credits plus the additional charges and a tip. I don’t remember how much we left but I don’t think it was quite 20% as our server was just fine. We all really enjoyed the Yak & Yeti and it was really nice having a window table. I definitely want this on our list for next year as it’s nice having somewhere in AK for a TS meal and we really like it here.

Day 14 - MK & RPR

This was our check out day from OKW and check in to RPR but before that we had the Key to the Kingdom Tour to do. We had breakfast in the room of what was left which ended up being scrambled egg and toast. We packed up any food we thought would be ok in the bags with Bell Services and threw out the rest.
Lunch was provided on our KTTK tour. I don’t have pictures as camera’s aren’t allowed on the tour and I didn’t want to be embarrassed if that included lunch! There were several offerings which we ate at the Tomorrowland Noodle Terrace which was closed as it’s off season. There was hot dog, corn dog nuggets, BBQ slaw dog, chicken nuggets, veggie burger and some salads. No fries and everything was served with chips. Marie had a dodgy belly so opted for a plain hot dog and I got the BBQ slaw dog. This was messy but tasty. We were given bottled drinks so I ordered a Minute Maid light lemonade and Marie got a Sprite.
After the tour we hung around MK for a while to do some rides. Mid-afternoon we used up some remaining snack credits on a Le Fous Brew each and 2 of the cinnamon rolls which we were able to get in “to go” boxes for our stay at RPR. We couldn’t find a table so sat on the fountain outside and had a moment of calm, people watching while drinking our Le Fous Brew. No photos today.

We still had a few credits left and had originally planned on staying in MK for dinner to use them up. After the KTTK tour we were shattered though and really just wanted to get out the heat. We considered a couple of options including using them at Goods to Go when we went to collect our luggage but decided to get the resort monorail and stop off at The Contemporary to give Contempo Café a try. We had 3 nights at BLT at the end of the trip so wanted to test it out. We also figured it was the closest of the monorail resort QS places and we could just pop back on the monorail for 1 stop to get to the TTC. On our way out we spent our remaining snack credits in the sweet shop getting cakes and other stuff in Main St which left us with 3 QS.
Contempo Cafe was another of those places you order at a counter and someone brings your food. We both decided on a tuna pitta to be healthy but with fries as we were on holiday! These were huge but really tasty.

We subbed desserts for two bottled drinks and got fountain drinks to have at the time. Now down to 1 QS credit which we used in the shop at OKW to get some milk and bottled drinks for RPR.

For various reasons that I’ll explain in the trip report it took ages for us to eventually get to RPR and we didn’t get there until half 7. We ended the day with a cup of coffee and ate some of the snacks we’d bought at Disney including a cupcake and my magic cookie bar which I still had. Marie ate some of the Gastons cinnamon roll which appears to the only photot I have.

Day 15 - Universal

So now we were at Universal we had to start paying for food. I had tried to mitigate it a bit by pre-purchasing the quick service meal plan including the coke freestyle ($27.99), golf & dine ($22.48) and a Hard Rock Café meal deal (£17). We didn’t have any specific plans on how to use them though.
Breakfast today was at the Leaky Cauldron however we had some cinnamon roll before leaving the room.
At the Leaky Cauldron unlike the Three Broomsticks you order from a counter and they bring the food to you. We used out QS meal deal here as it’s quite expensive at $16. We both had the pancake breakfast which was nice but not really worth $16. You get a drink included so we both had coffee.

After this we collected our coke freestyle mug so we had it all day. This costs $13.99 plus tax to buy so out of our QS deal we’d so far saved $2 each but we still had a snack to get so still worth it. I was really glad we’d gotten the freestyle mugs as I think we drank a lot more than we normally would have. Since we got the ones with the carry handle we were able to loop them through our bag straps and they were easy to carry.

We were done at US by lunch time so decided to use our Hard Rock café meal deal on the way to IoA. We got the Blue Grass Menu ones which offer a cheese or bacon cheese burger, honey mustard grilled chicken sandwich, tomato pasta, BBQ pulled pork sandwich and chicken Caesar salad. Drink and a dessert of their choosing are included as is a 15% tip. I chose the Honey Mustard Chicken sandwich.

Marie got the BBQ pulled pork sandwich.

Dessert was ice cream.

This was nice and it was great having it pre-paid but I don’t think we saved anything. I added up how much it would have cost and we more or less broke even but we wouldn’t have got ice cream if we’d been paying. It turned out tip was included though which I hadn’t known until the server told us so I’ve bought two for next year too. I hadn’t planned to originally but the dollar rate is so bad I think it’ll be worth it.

We used our snack credits to get a cinnabon and some cinnamon sticks for the next days breakfast. You can only get the Classic Cinnabon and can’t use the credit for a Caramel Pecabon. No pictures again for some reason.

It was a while before we were hungry and we used the golf part of our Golf & Dine deal to kill some time. We still weren’t too hungry afterwards so decided to try one of the QS places in Citywalk. We decided on Panda Express as so many people seem to love it. After standing in an enormous queue I got orange chicken, shanghai beef and noodles. This was just ok. The noodles seemed to be more veg than noodles. The beef wasn’t that great but the chicken was nice enough. The meal was just warm and not hot.

Marie had fried rice with orange chicken and sweetfire chicken. She said it was nice enough but she wasn’t hungry enough to do it justice.

This cost us $24 and I don’t know that we’d bother again.

Day 16 - Mall at Millenia & US

Since the weather was to be nice in the morning and wet later we decided to get some pool time in this morning so breakfast was some shared cinnabon in the room.

For lunch we decided on a trip to Mall at Millenia so we could have a look around but mainly so we could eat at the Cheesecake Factory! We had eaten there a good few years ago and never made it back so were determined to go back this trip. To start they brought us some bread. I really tried not to eat too much of this but whatever the brown bread was it was amazing! I really could have eaten it all but didn’t want to spoil my appetite.

I got the Chicken Burrito which came with beans. This was really tasty as the chicken was shredded and every mouthful had some chicken in it. Even the beans, which I usually find pretty bad were really nice. It was huge though and I struggle to finish. It was so nice it put me in the mood for Mexican food for ages afterwards! Even now!

Marie had the mac n cheese balls that are a starter and got a side of fries. These are really big and the side of fries was enormous!

We didn’t have room for dessert so got it to go. I got the Smores cheesecake. I ate this later but only ate half as the chocolate was too bitter.

Marie had Tiramisu which she really liked.

This cost us $57 in total which was partly because the desserts were around $8 each. It was lovely though and I expect we’ll make a trip to the Cheesecake Factory next year.

We had a couple of hours at US and bought a butterbeer which cost us $12.76 for two.

Because of our big and later lunch we weren’t hungry at dinner time. We headed back to the room and decided to just see how we felt. We considered just snacking but as the evening went on we got hungry. Like proper hungry! Handily RPR does room service and at not a bad price. We didn’t bother with drinks as we had plenty in the fridge. We perused the menu and I decided on fish and chips. This was lovely and I might be tempted next year!

Marie had a turkey club sandwich and fries which she also really enjoyed.

We also got a bread and butter.

This cost us $48.68 which included a $3 delivery charge and a 22% service charge. It was all brought on a table with wheels which the staff member wheeled into the room and in between the beds allowing us to use them as chairs so we could eat at the table. We really enjoyed it and I didn’t think it was too expensive considering. The only slightly awkward thing was we didn’t tip because it said there was a service charge included. Not sure if we should have?

I also feel the need to tell you all about a comment Marie made that evening. We were watching TV and there was an ad for a pork belly sandwich at some restaurant. I expressed my disgust and Marie's reply was "that's just what they eat here, fried stuff with cheese". The irony of her lunch was lost on her.
