:) Another Dose of Disney Dreams August 2016 - Day 7 - Magic Kingdom, POR and Wolfgang Puck Express

INDEX

Thursday 11th August

Did really well with my sleep again which I wasn’t expecting as I couldn’t stop thinking about us going to Port Orleans. I woke around 5 but managed to get back to sleep for another hour or so, I did eventually get up and everyone else was still fast asleep so I got on with making a few notes.

Eventually everybody started waking up, we juggled with washes etc and I got on with the last few bits of packing before we all had a bit of breakfast.

Scott and Hayden took the few bags we had to the car whilst I checked out. We’d been charged for the parking again even though we paid when we’d first checked in, I pointed this out and they rectified the invoice. It took a little while to do, but once it was sorted, we finally said goodbye to Sapphire Falls.

I have no shame! In a Universal Resort with a Minnie Mouse t-shirt

No time for us to feel sad as we were on our way to our favourite resort – Port Orleans Riverside. Before we knew we saw the sign that meant we were now in Disney World!

Yay!

The road layouts had changed from our last visit with there being quite a few road works. Thought this would throw us out slightly, but needless to say we managed to find our way to our home.
We parked at the front and Scott and Hayden took some of the cases over to be stored. It was 8.30 so still quite early, we didn’t expect it to be overly busy and we were right, we only waited a few moments before I was checking in.

The kids did their usual and settled down to watch a bit of TV whilst waiting. I can’t tell you how good it felt to be here, I know I go on a bit about how much we love this resort but we just do, it always feels so right being here.

Happy

I knew our room wouldn’t be ready but the CM did tell us that our request for a room in block 16 on the upper floor had been met. I had asked for a room without a connecting door but unfortunately there wasn’t any available at that time. The only rooms available would be in block 38, never mind 2 out of 3 isn’t bad, I just hoped we had quiet neighbours.

We were given our Magic bands and also our pack which included information about the park times and our parking voucher. Also included some more of those cute luggage tags and some celebration buttons for our anniversary! I said that we’d pop back later to find out our room number.

So cute!

We grabbed a drink of water before we left - how lovely is this hidden Mickey. It’s the little touches like this that I just love so much.

Of course our first Disney park just as to be Magic Kingdom, just ask the kids and they’ll tell you this.

Not long before we saw this sign, it was a little later in the morning so we expected it to be a little busy.

Parked up in Peter Pan 217 – we could see that a tram had just left but there was no sign of another tram approaching. Scott said come let’s walk it’s not far – he was right with it not being a great distance away and we’d have only been stood around so off we walked to the TTC. It wasn’t a long walk but it was very hot!

Not the only ones walking

Jamie and Hayden had decide amongst themselves that we’d catch the monorail to Magic Kingdom but as we walked through everyone was being directed towards the ferry. Never mind I’m sure that we’ll get to ride the monorail at some time during our stay.

Poppy was the first one to notice the castle!

Did our usual and followed the crowds through to the bag check area, of course the lines were really long as the checks are a lot more thorough – even so we didn’t have long to wait.

Now the metal detectors were all new to us, I was picked out a random to go through and I was told to take my celebration button off. All was fine, we used our Magic bands for the first time which is always exciting. Next step – walk into Magic Kingdom

Firstly though was a visit to guest services to enquire about the Disability Access Service. Last time we visited we received a card but it was applied to the Magic bands. I’d brought the letter with me form Hayden’s consultant, I know it’s not necessary but it makes me feel better. The CM was very helpful and explained the service, she also took a photo of Hayden and everything was sorted out very quickly. She asked if we wanted to obtain a return time as she could apply one straight away, I explained that we had 3 fast passes so for the moment Hayden should be ok but thanked her so much for the offer.

We then headed on over to Main Street to get our first proper look of the castle and of course to get our first Magic Kingdom photo. But alas there was some kind of parade about to begin, think it was to welcome the arrival of the new Princess Elena?

Always lovely to see a parade

Parade over it was time for the first Castle photo, it’s just got to be done. Scott was saying wait until later but I was like no we need to take a pic now otherwise we’ll forget. It’s one of those things that we’ve always done, and whilst we don’t go each year it’s lovely to look back and see the changes in the kids.

This time though it was just a little busier than previous years.

It wasn’t as busy near the top of Main Street

The time for our first fastpass was nearly ending, it was for Space Mountain. I’d booked it for the all of us thinking that Poppy might change her mind and want to go on it but she said she didn’t. The boy’s power walked up to the ride whilst Poppy and I had a gentle stroll. Also gave us an opportunity to have our first pictures taken with Photopass.

Can’t remember what he asked us to do

Had a look round a couple of shops while we waited – Poppy choose a lovely Minnie Mouse autograph book and pen form one of the carts.

We were soon reunited with the boys who said they’d had a brilliant ride on Space Mountain

The parade was very brief but Had been quite nice to watch, I’d not heard much about this particular Princess but since returning home, we’ve seen the new shows on the Disney channel.

The Seven Dwarves Mine Train was next which Poppy was so excited about. Wow we were so glad to have a fast booked as the standby time was 90 minutes!

I think this is a fantastic family ride, probably more so because this is one of the few coasters that Poppy will ride. She loves on here and at one point Poppy even hands her hands in the air when we went down one of the bends

It was now lunch time and we’d booked our first ADR for the liberty Tree Tavern. As we walked over we obtained a return time for Pater Pan as the stand by line was really long. We’d eaten here before a few years ago and had really enjoyed the food there. It was a nice cool break from the mid day sun.

Didn’t have to wait long till we were called to go over to our table. I wasn’t overly keen on the location of the table, I can’t recall the name of the room but we were located very near to the service area. The kids sat on the back bench and us two opposite, it was just annoying to me as I had the servers constantly walking behind me or there were trolley’s of plates going backwards and forwards making a right racket! It didn’t bother anyone else though.

Our food soon arrived though and the service was good. Jamie had chosen his meal from the kids menu which I paid for OOP, Jamie ordered the same meal as me, the pot roast, and the portion sizes were literally the same.

Poppy’s Pasta with Marinara sauce

Hayden’s Pilgrims Feast

Jamie’s Kids Pot Roast

Scott’s Fish and Chips

My New England Pot Roast

Kids Ice Cream Sundae

Hayden’s Boston Cream Pie

Scott’s Fruit Cobbler

My Oooey Gooey Toffee Cake

Yet again, we’d really enjoyed our food here, the pot roast was so delicious and very filling. The Oooey Gooey cake was heavenly and definitely the best dessert there even though the others were quite good. Jamie had a kid’s sundae too, the server was very helpful and said he’d used the DP for the more expensive kid’s meal (Jamie’s) and we paid for the cheaper one which I thought was good of him.
We stepped back out into the glorious sunshine then headed on back over to Peter Pan. This is another family favourite of ours.

Our next fast pass was for Splash Mountain, again I’d booked it for all of us in the hope that Poppy would ride it, but like earlier Poppy was adamant not to go on it. It didn’t matter just meant that Poppy would have another look round the shops but this time with her dad.

We could see Big Thunder Mountain in the distance which was closed for the duration of our stay.

We were sat at the front which is always a great place to sit. We managed to get a little wet which we really enjoyed.

Jamie starting with the dabbing again!

We’d arranged to meet Poppy and Scott on the bridge, there was a photopass lady there so we had a picture took whilst we waited.

Met back up with Poppy and Scott, it was nearly time for the afternoon parade so we looked for a space to watch it. There was lots of room still available, this was in Frontierland, but none of it was in any shade. Luckily we only had 5 minutes to wait until the parade started so we picked a quiet spot and Jamie and Poppy sat down on the ground. I stood in a way at the side of them so they were actually sat in my shade.

I also managed to make a new fastpass seeing as though we’d used up our first 3. Pirates of the Caribbean was showing so I secured one for there.

Wasn’t long till we heard the music but then this woman came out of nowhere and nearly knocked me over. She also nearly stood on Poppy which really peeved me  She’d obviously been sat in the shade somewhere then dived in at the last moment, which is fine so long as there’s space there! Worse still was she that this massive tablet and I mean massive, not like an ipad size but more like a netbook and it was practically in my face. There wasn’t much I could do except stand my ground which I had to do to make sure she didn’t stand on Poppy. There was still loads of room further down the line. Some people are just so rude

Still it didn’t stop the Poppy’s and Jamie’s enjoyment of the parade as they stayed on the ground to watch it. Of course Hayden is taller than us so he had no problems lol.

The kids were so enjoying the parade, it was so lovely standing there watching all three of them waving at the characters and relishing it so much. I wasn’t sure because they’re all getting older, whether they’d still enjoy this, especially Jamie as he’s at that age, but I needn’t have worried as they was all still loving the experience.

Snow White and the seven dwarves came dancing by when next Snow White came over to Poppy for a brief chat. She’d spotted Poppy’s Minnie Mouse visor and remarked on how lovely it was, Poppy was so overjoyed by this and it made Poppy’s day.

Parade over we walked the short distance over to POTC, of we had our fastpasses so we literally just walked onto the ride. Felt so good to be in here in the lovely cool air conditioning after standing out in the hot sun for ½ hour. Also nice to have a bit of a sit down too

Another ride we all enjoy but I think the kids enjoy looking round in the shop afterwards more lol.

Brilliant top!

I made another fastpass selection, this time for It’s a Small World. I wouldn’t normally but the ride was closing for a few days and we knew that this would be the only day we’d be able to ride it. There was minimal queuing for us and soon we were sailing away on the happiest cruise ever!

You just can’t beat this classic and we were so glad to have gotten our IASW fix before the refurb.

Whilst we were waiting for the boat sail to the exit Jamie noticed the goodbye sign which was displaying our names, we’d not seen this before. Well what Jamie had actually noticed was his name wasn’t on the goodbye message, but alas Jamie had one all to himself.

How lovely is this

We walked down to Main street as the kids wanted an ice cream from the parlour. It was getting a little dark and It started spitting a little with rain, we could also see some lightning in the distance but it didn’t turn into anything more. We decided though to leave the park after the ice cream, wanted to get settled into our new room.

Another castle pic, you can never have too many right?

Ordered a couple of the ice cream sundaes to share between them, they were as delicious as they looked or so the kids said.

Used our first snack credits on these - only another 68 to go!

It was fairly quiet on Main Street so we had a few photo’s took, I like that we can get pictures took of us all together .

We caught the monorail back much to the boys delight and then the tram back to the car, much to my delight!

Although we knew which block we were in we didn’t know the number so I called back to Front desk to ask, in the meantime Scott and Hayden went to Bell services to see if they could pick the bags up. I didn’t wait long before I was seen and we were given room 1639 which was situated in a good position near to the carpark and very near to the small pool.

Popped into the Food court first to get our refillable mugs and I was a little bit disappointed that they only had 2 colours available, red and blue. We like to each get a different colour, ended up getting blue cups of the kids and red ones for us.

We walked over to our room whist Scott drove the car round, I was surprised at how easily we found it and I set about taking a few photo’s because it got too messy!

Finding our way round!

Settling in nicely

I did a little unpacking and everyone else got on with showering and changing. The time was getting on a bit now and we wanted to go to Disney Springs for our tea tonight.

Decided to drive down instead of using the boat service as it was later and we’d thought it would be busy. Gosh it had all changed so much and we weren’t really quite sure where to park. We ended up in the Lime carpark right on the top level. Caught the lift down and did our usual of following the crowds to Disney Springs, reality was it wasn’t too hard to familiarise with this new place and we soon got our bearings.

Found Wolgang Puck Express quite easily and thankfully it wasn’t too busy, we could see lots of available tables. Hayden said he wasn’t really hungry and could he share a meal, this is was a little unusual for Hayden but I said it was fine and that we’d share as I wasn’t overly hungry either. Hayden wanted a pizza which he virtually ate all to himself anyway, didn’t matter though I had a piece of yummy cheesecake so was more than happy.

Jamie’s Ravioli

Poppy’s Crispy Chicken Fingers

Our Pizza

Scott’s Meatloaf

Jamie and Poppy had a cookie each whilst Hayden and Scott both had the cheesecake.

Don’t think you can go wrong at this place, the food is very good and whilst it’s a Quick service restaurant the meal is brought out to you and the servers really look after you. We left a tip on the table before leaving.

It was 9.00pm now and Poppy asked if she could have a little swim back at the resort- said that we’d explore Disney Springs properly another time. One of the reasons for us coming here was for me to exchange the voucher for the $200 gift card but I’d forgotten to bring it out with us anyway. We had other nights planned down here, so knew I go change it some other time.

Back at Port Orleans Jamie and Poppy changed and we headed over to the small pool near us. Hayden wasn’t bothered about having a swim tonight and fetched a magazine down to read. There were a few children in the pool but not many, Jamie and Poppy swam and splashed around for a hour, it was nice to sit and chill for a while.

Back at our room Jamie and Poppy showered again and we went to bed a little after 10.30.

Thought we’d had a brilliant first day in Magic kingdom and had settled back into the Disney bubble very nicely

Thanks for reading

Great first Disney day Julia... I definitely need to factor in a visit to Wolfgang Puck Express, it looks like such a good use of a QS credit.

Can I ask what time you arrived at Disney, the reason I ask is that our trip is quite similar to yours in that we leave RPR after 4 days to check into SSR, I planned on maybe trying to check in around 12pm but still probably wont get into our room at that I presume?

Thanks Shona, It felt great to be back!

I'm sure you'll not be disappointed if you get the chance

I'm not sure for definite but if your room is ready you should be able to get in. They're sometimes ready early but I do believe normal check in is 3pm. Can you do online check in? Maybe that might help you getting in earlier, we didn't but we knew we'd be going to a park for the day

Hope that's helped
