I guess we're grown ups now? Nah, maybe next week! October 2016 Part 1 - Day 2 Wicked Nachos!

Index

Day 2 - 05.10.16

I woke up after a very restful night’s sleep and looked at the clock. 11:30. I was very confused.
First I thought that the clock was still on UK time but that wasn’t right because it was the hotel clock and wouldn’t be on UK time anyways!
Then I thought OMG it’s nearly midday and we’ve wasted the first morning in bed! But it was still dark outside. I grabbed my phone and looked at the time on there which told me it was actually 11:30pm. I’d been asleep for 2 hours and it felt like I’d been asleep forever!

Back to sleep then! Woke up again at 1:15, then 2:30 and didn’t get back to sleep till 4. Woke again at 5:30 and decided to give up.
We watched TV in bed for a while then got up, showered and ready to head out at 9am via the Bellagio and it's lovely ceiling!

This morning was going to be a Wicked Spoons breakfast.
I loved the inside of the Cosmo, the bar (aptly called The Chandelier) was beautiful!

After a bit of a wander we found Wicked Spoons and waited about 5 mins to pay ($66 including tip) and be seated. Ross got a coffee and I got a tea (the last tea of the holiday...american tea is gross!) then we tackled the buffet!

Ross got French toast with syrup, wicked chicken wings, sausage patty, bacon, scrambled egg and thick bacon strips. I got a bagel with salmon and cream cheese, pancake with syrup, sausage patty, scrambled egg and ‘Angry Mac & Cheese’.
AMAZING! That mac and cheese was just devine! Ross went up for another plate and go bacon, ham and cheese omelette, Chinese chicken wings, pork belly slices, ham, sausage patty and scrambled egg. He then sent me up to get him some more French toast and I got some fruit because I’m not a pig. At least he gets his money’s worth!

After breakfast we had a little dabble in the casino, we put $20 in the electronic roulette machine and lost the lot (still hating the casinos!) then headed out.

Today was going to be a day of general wandering around the hotels and sight seeing.
First stop after a wander past the Bellagio was Caesars Palace.

The lobby was a lot smaller than it looks in the films! I managed to drag Ross through the casino without any of the dollars finding its way into any of the machines and we ended up in the Forum Shopping Centre. It’s weird how all of the malls have the sky to make it look like it’s outside!

I found a Sephora. I browsed for makeup setting spray as I knew mine wasn’t going to hold up in the heat! A woman stumbling around in killer heals barged into me, I looked at her to have a go and saw that it was actually a man in a dress and lots of makeup. Oh well, each to their own!
I bought the urban decay setting spray and some of their powder and some nails inc nail varnish. (I bought my Sensationail gel kit with me but the plug for the lamp wasn’t in my kit bag so I was without anything for my nails and I hate having bare nails! So varnish was very necessary!) which cost $88 in total, I thought that was good but Ross had heart failure! Oh well, can’t his wife treat herself every once in a while!

We reached the end of the shops and had a look at the aquarium and made a mental note to come back and eat at the Cheesecake Factory at some point!

Once we found our way out of Caesars we headed across the road walking past the Linq and Harrahs until we reached the Venetian. It’s a really beautiful hotel, the water outside looks so lush and blue, not a thing like the Venice I’m guessing! We did look at the gondola rides but the private ones for 2 were over $100 and we really didn’t fancy paying that, or sharing with anybody else so we gave it a miss.

We headed inside and found Carlos Bakery so I could send a picture to my sister who’s a big fan of Cake Boss and made another mental note to come back and eat all of the cakes! The shopping centre in there is really cool with the boats going through it but we couldn’t afford any of them so we didn’t bother looking!

Instead we went to the casino and played on the game with the big wheel which we managed to play on for quite a while and I actually had fun! We played with $10 each and just played till we ran out, I may be coming around the casinos a little bit, it helped that we were right by the exit and had natural light so it wasn’t as dingy.

We walked out through the Pallazo lobby then walked over to the Wynn and watched the little fountains dance to ‘Be Our Guest’, very fitting!

Then across the road to find some alcohol! We chose Gillys which is a country bar outside Treasure Island, next to the pirate ships.

Ross opted for a Sam Adams then a Bud Lite and I had a Mojito. Ross wasn’t keen on me having the expensive cocktails all the time and made me try his beer to try and persuade me to drink that instead but I really don’t like it! The Bud Lite was nicer than the Sam Adams but I definitely couldn’t drink a pint of it, I will stick to the cocktails or have a coke thank you!

We sat in there for a while chatting about the plans for the week and what we were going to book so we paid up the $23 including tip and headed back to the room to book some activities.

I used some of our My Vegas points to get a premium companion ticket to Criss Angel, it was 7500 points and I managed to book seats near the front for $144.
We wanted to do a Cirque show too but we couldn’t really afford two shows and we both said we would rather see Criss.
I also used My Vegas points to get BOGOF entry to Shark Reef aquarium and BOGOF Rollercoaster ride at NYNY.
Then I booked Slotzilla Zipline at Freemont Street which was $90, the Strip Scoot City Tour for $250 and the sunset Grand Canyon Tour with Papilon helicopters which was about $700 I think, can’t remember the exact amount through.

So the plans for the rest of our time there...
Today – Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay
Thursday – Pool chill day then Freemont Street
Friday – We would go to the Rio to play Kiss Mini Golf, find Counts Kustoms and see Criss Angel in the evening
Saturday – Wander round some more hotels then helicopter ride.
Sunday – Nothing planned so we can do what we want
Monday – Scoot City tour then free time to see anything we may have missed.
Tuesday – Fly to Orlando!

With that all sorted we got ready and headed out in the direction of Mandalay Bay. On the walk down we stopped at the Hard Rock Cafe shop and got two pins for my collection, the top that I saw in the Manchester shop and Ross got a baseball cap which all came to $87.
On the way out we got a drink each, a Bud Lite and a Purple haze cocktail, can’t remember what was in it but it was strong and goooood.
We had seen a lot of people walking up and down the strip carrying drinks and I thought it was weird and I didn’t really like it. I guess it’s cause you don’t see it here but we had somewhere to be and you know what they say, if you can beat em, join em! So we carried our drinks down the strip, we thought it would be a quick walk as it looked really close but it took aaaaaages!

It was a nice walk though, except for the couple we saw having a barney outside the Tropicana. They were really tearing strips off each other! They looked pretty homeless or maybe just really hippy-ish (sorry I know that’s not a word!) and he was being vial about her lady parts then she threw a punch at him and he stormed off into the Tropicana. Classy people!
Just past the Tropicana I had to throw half my cocktail in the bin as I was half way to being half cut and I know my limits!

Soz, I cant take pictures when I'm drunkard!

Once we got to Mandalay Bay it was about 6:30. We spotted the bell desk and asked the guy where the aquarium was. As we were walking away in the direction he pointed us to he shouted to us ‘Which part of Scotland?’ What? ‘Which part of Scotland are you guys from?’ Oh! We told him he was mistaken but only by a couple of miles as Carlisle is right on the border. He told us that he has family in Aberdeen and visits every few years so we joked about the extreme weather difference between Las Vegas and Scotland . He also apologised for calling us Scottish, he knew how people can get with the rivalries etc but we really don’t mind, like I said we are only a few miles off being in Scotland anyways!

We found our way to the Aquarium, walking past a wedding party by the casino! I showed the really happy (?!) lady at the counter our BOGOF thing on my phone and paid her the $20 to get in. It was a nice little aquarium. The komodo dragon was cool, we’d never seen one of those before and the sword fish are incredible, I definitely don’t think it’s worth $20 each though! I’m glad we used the voucher for it!
Get ready for some really bad photos of fish...

Once out of there Ross was itching to head into the casino but I wasn’t keen on the slot machines so he decided to play blackjack on the tables instead and managed to turn his $20 into $100! I made him walk away before he blew it all, cause I’m a top nagging wife! Dinner was certainly on him tonight!
Walking up the strip at night was great, the Luxor looks good with the light at the top and NYNY is amazing at night!

Tea tonight would be at the Hard Rock and it was great to know it was already paid for with Ross’s winnings!
Ross had a Bud Lite and I got a coke then for food Ross had 8 buffalo wings and a legendary burger and I got the nachos from the starter menu. A while later I saw the waitress bring over Ross’ burger and another plate which cant have been mine because it was twice the size of a normal plate and piled 5ft high with nachos! Unfortunately it was mine and I had to try and make a dent in this stupid pile of bloody crisps!

When our server came to ask if everything was ok I had to say something, ‘dude you could have told me the plate was this big, look at the size of me I cant eat all of this!’ his reply ‘well the thing is 16 bucks you’d expect a big plate right?’.
I ate what I could and Ross helped a bit but it didn’t look like we’d even started! I told Ross I was going to the toilet and I wanted the plate gone by the time I got back, I couldn’t look the waitress in the eye when she came to collect the very full plate so I hid in the bathroom!
After I emerged we paid the bill of $97 including tip and wandered back to the hotel.
We watched the fountains for a bit then went to bed at 10... stupid nachos.

Sounds like a fab day but the the big question is - have you changed your mind on vegas? Do you enjoy it more as the days go on? I've been on tenterhooks since your last post lol!

Sorry! I totally forgot to update on my feelings for Vegas!
It was growing on me, I think it was mainly down to being super tired on the first day.
I liked the casinos better now we had stopped playing slots and had moved onto tables. We were actually winning and it was better having a bit of banter with the dealer than staring at a machine.
I hated all the homeless people though and some areas of the strip were a bit dingy but I was enjoying myself a lot more now!

Thanks for reading

A good day and plans made for the rest of your time. I know it's expensive but I think we might have to have a gondola trip at the Venetian when we're there.
