Dec 16/Jan17: New Year bonus trip? Go on then - pre-trip report *UPDATED*

Index

Unbelievably in just 10 days time we will be off to Walt Disney World again. We got back from our last trip just under 6 weeks ago and it feels surreal that we’re going again so soon! For anyone that has read my last pre trip report you might remember that the point of this trip is a cheeky week to celebrate both Isabella’s birthday and New Year’s Eve, making the most of our Annual Passes.

You’re probably aware that I’m still in the middle of writing my trip report for the aforementioned holiday and I’m desperately trying to get that one finished before this holiday happens!

With that in mind this pre-trip is going to be super short and sweet!

#TeamSear:

Stew - 40, Digital Creative Director, Star Wars geek, reader of epic fantasy series, trip report writer

Jo - 32, Private tutor of science and psychology, gym bunny, many drinker, trip planner

Isabella - 4, almost 5, Narrator no. 4 in the school nativity, best bud, sidekick, Darth Vader fan

Star Wars geek

One of Jo's 'Many Drinks'

Almost 5

The holiday was booked through Travel City Direct (who were having a sale) and here’s the travel plan:
  • Fly from Heathrow at 12:30pm on Wednesday 28th December to Atlanta with Delta
  • Change at Atlanta and then fly to MCO also with Delta
  • Arrive at MCO at 9:30pm
  • Pick up hire car from Alamo
  • Drive to the Rosen Inn Pointe Orlando on International Drive

The itinerary so far is:

Thursday 29th December:
Lazy morning - take the monorail round the resorts to view the monorail resort Christmas trees and gingerbread houses
Epcot evening - early dinner booked at Via Napoli. Visit some of the storytellers around the World Showcase and maybe eavesdrop on the Candlelight Processional

Friday 30th December:
Isabella’s 5th birthday.
Morning - Chef Mickey’s breakfast then off to Magic Kingdom
Evening - Dinner at Rainforest Cafe, then into Animal Kingdom

Chef Mickey's

Saturday 31st December:
Quiet morning
Evening at Hollywood Studios including the Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! Holiday dessert party

Sunday 1st January:
Morning - Late breakfast at The Wave, then off to Epcot
Evening - Dinner on International Drive

Monday 2nd January:
Morning - Animal Kingdom
Evening - Dinner on International drive

Tuesday 3rd January:

Morning - Magic Kingdom
Evening - Dinner on International drive

Wednesday 4th January:
3:45pm - Flying Delta Comfort (equivalent to Premium Economy) to Boston
Virgin Premium Economy Boston to Heathrow, arriving at 9am Thursday morning
(Note: amazingly we only paid £70 each to upgrade to Premium Economy on this leg - no idea why it was so little)

And that’s it. We’re anticipating that this will be a totally different trip. Having just done 2 action packed weeks we have the luxury of not needing to do everything, so we can choose a few favourites to ride. We’re not on the dining plan this time either - although we do get the (10% or 20%) Annual Pass discount - so we’ve booked 4 ADRs and are looking forward to visiting some old favourites on International Drive as well - it’s been years since we’ve spent any real time there.

We’re hoping that the Jingle Bell, Jingle BAM! Holiday dessert party will be good, as we’ve heard/read/seen some mixed reviews. The reason for booking it was because we wanted to ensure that we had something to do on New Year’s Eve that wouldn’t involved getting squashed and stressed! This way we’re guaranteed a view of the fireworks in a specified area (and hopefully no ‘fireworks rage’ for Jo).

Isabella has helped choose some of the FastPasses and also where she wanted to eat on her birthday; she wanted ‘Mickey Waffles and croissants and stuff’ for breakfast and she really wanted to go to Rainforest Cafe.

We’re looking forward to seeing all the Christmas decorations and doing Christmas things in the parks. We’ve been around Christmas time a couple of times in the past but I don’t think we really saw all there is to see, so that should be fun. Not having to rush around to get on rides should help us relax a bit and soak up the atmosphere.

So there you have it.

TFR

Eeeeek! So exciting! Can't imagine what it feels like to be going again so soon after you came back. Your plans sound great and it must be nice to know you don't have to squeeze loads in, just really enjoy it all. xx

We once went for Christmas, got home and flew back out six weeks later for the Princess Half - was a very odd feeling! I think Jo's half marathon was one of the very first RunDisney reports I ever read!

I hope you have a wonderful time, and we'll say hi if we see you

It's a bit surreal to be going back so soon. The last week or so has been a bit craxy trying to finish of the previous TR in time for this one!

It looked good from other TR's we'd seen, so that's good to hear

MINI UPDATE

So I'm currently typing this from the Premier Inn on Bath Road near Heathrow Airport.

Jo has been following reports of predicted fog for tomorrow (Wednesday) and although most forecasts seem to think it will be clear by our flight time of 12:30 it could be really bad in the morning when we're due to drive the hour or so from Hertfordshire.

So after a brief discussion this morning, we decided to book in to the Premier Inn and arrived here at about 6, checked in, had dinner and are now chilling out in the room.

So this means our trip has gained en extra day provided there are no fog issues tomorrow...

Hope you are able to leave without any problems!

We landed in Atlanta (and took off again) on Monday in a decent amount of fog.

Looks like we plan to be in AK on the same day as you so I'll keep my eyes peeled.

Safe flights and have a great trip.
