Squirrels and Sizzlers - Day 0 - The one with the plane

I woke up at about 5am, nearly two hours before the alarm was going to go off, you can tell I was excited, I never wake up before the alarm! I dozed until the 6:45 alarm then woke Ross up.
Went down for breakfast just after 7. I had sausage, bacon, egg, beans and a cup of tea. Ross had the same plus fried bread. It was a very yummy breakfast, there was other choices like cereal, fruit, muffins, pastries etc but we always go for the full English, it’s the only way to go!

Went back up to the room and got sorted, we checked out at 8:30. I would definitely recommend the Hilton, very nice room, comfortable beds, yummy food and if you can get it for a good price like we did it’s a great way to start your holiday.

We waited outside for a bus to Terminal 2, we were stood there for aaaaages! Started talking to a middle aged couple who were off to Vegas then Hawaii. Bus finally came at 9am.

When we got to the terminal and found our check in desks. The check in man was really nice, told us he had family in Penrith which is about 15mins from us. He also told us we had about an hour and a half delay and weren’t due to take off until 1pm now which we really didn’t mind as we had paid to use the Thomson’s Escape Lounge so it just meant we got more time in there! We only had one suitcase and it came to 19kg! Can’t believe I managed to pack so light!
There was no queue for security so we got through really quick with no beeps or cavity searches.

We browsed the duty free shop and ended up spending a good half an hour looking for new aftershave/perfume! In the end Ross got Joop Jump and I got DKNY Be Delicious Fresh Blossom, they came to £80 in total.

We went and found the Escape Lounge, got there at 10:15. The main lounge was full so we were taken to a smaller lounge which was really nice. I got myself a cup of tea and Ross got a coffee and a beer. All the food and drink was free, they had lots choice. Cereal, pastries, cookies, crisps and cakes and a range of hot drinks, soft drinks and alcoholic drinks. I was still quite full from breakfast but Ross was hungry (surprise surprise) so he got a piece of flapjack and a cookie, I got a cinnamon bun which I picked at. There was free wi-fi so I plugged the laptop in and uploaded the photos from the wrestling to Facebook and chatted to my Dad and my Sister. We sat next to the window which overlooked the departure lounge so we did a bit of people watching, saw which gate we needed to go to and spotted our Plane, Beauty Queen.

Went down to the gate at 12:15. Really liked the Escape Lounge, definitely beats trying to find a seat in the departure lounge and it was really relaxing. We paid £35 in total to use it and although we didn’t have much of the food or drink it was still worth it, wouldn’t hesitate booking it again next time.

Didn’t take long for us to board and find our seats. We had paid for extra legroom seats and got window seats, Ross had already taxed the seat next to the window. We took off at about 1:30pm.
Flight was very uneventful. I loved the IFE systems, such a massive choice of films, games and TV programmes. We both watched Ted together to start with, it was hilarious! We were laughing out loud causing lots of folk to turn round to see what we were laughing at!
Drinks cart came round soon after take off, Ross had a Tiger beer and I had a vodka fruit cocktail which was really tasty.

Lunch was served at 3:15. Ross had Pasta with white sauce, veg and cheese and I had chicken with cheese and leek sauce, garlic and thyme potatoes and creamed spinach. For plane food it was really good, we both really enjoyed it.

My chicken with cheese and leek sauce

After lunch Ross played poker on the IFE and I watched Dark Shadows. Then we watched Men In Black 3 together which was really good. Ross enjoyed taking photos out the window.

We do love the zoom on our new camera!

Afternoon tea was served at 8:45 and we started descending at 9:45. We were only in the queue at customs for half an hour. I was absolutely terrified after reading all the horror stories about the horrid customs workers but we got through fine, again with no cavity searches!

We grabbed the cases and got onto the monorail. We waited around 30mins for our transfer bus, in the meantime we saw lots and lots of Magic Express and Disney Cruise Line buses, got a bit jealous we weren’t staying at Disney, next time definitely! Got to the hotel (Rosen Inn @ PO) at 12:30, check in was easy, we were given a room in block D overlooking the pool...and the I40 which was a bit worrying as I had heard the traffic noise was really bad but it honestly never bothered us at all throughout the whole holiday!

We were starving by now so we went to Pizza Hut over the road. Our server was Joe and he was a lovely guy, really helpful! He talked us through the menu. Ross ordered Honey BBQ wings to start and I ordered cheesy bread strips. We had a half and half pizza for main. My half was Hawaiian and Ross’ was meat lovers. Ross stupidly ordered a large...which is what he usually orders in the UK, but this is America now! I ate about 2 bread strips and 2 slices of pizza and was stuffed. Ross did a lot better than me but it was still a lot of food! The bill came to £52.61 plus tip. That completed our first of many trips to Pizza Hut!

We waddled back to the hotel, my watch said 2:30am! No wonder I was knackered! I changed it to Florida time and fell into bed and must have fallen asleep straight away!
Tomorrow...MK!

Great travel day. Well done on packing so light - poor Ross could've snuck his two extra t-shirts in after all Oh, and I agree, Ted IS hilarious!
