Squirrels and Sizzlers - Day 8 - The one with the whole world

I had been out of the Disney loop for 6 days and I was starting to get withdrawal symptoms , I was getting the shakes and my Minnie ears were starting to droop. They needed a pick-me-up, so today we were heading to Epcot! Yey!

We were out the door and into a taxi at 7:30. The driver dropped us at the TTC and we headed up the ramp to get the monorail to Epcot. After 10 mins they announced that the monorail was having difficulties this morning so we had to get the bus over, not a problem, as long as they get us there before rope drop! They did us proud and dropped us off at the front door at 8:30.

When the rope dropped at 8:50 (10 mins early, thank you very much!) we did as everybody else did and walked briskly (yea, we ran) to Soarin’! We walked straight on and ended up in row B I think. I wrote down one word in my notes to describe this ride, four letters, starts with S, ends in T. Sorry Soarin’ lovers but what the frick is all the hype about? I was expecting something crazy amazing the way folk go on about it but it was the biggest let down of the entire holiday! You will be surprised to hear that we did not get fast passes on the way out.

By now we were pretty hungry but breakfast would have to wait because we were on a mission, a mission to space! Roughly translated to ‘I don’t want to throw my breakfast up on Mission:Space’.
Orange team, naturally! It was a walk on as well. Ross was the commander and I was the engineer. I love this ride, the feeling you get in the pit of your stomach is unlike anything else I have experienced! I did remember a story another Dibber told of their elderly parents who went on this instead of Spaceship Earth by mistake, makes me chuckle when I think about it, poor people! Also, although I obviously wasn’t aware yet, I was pregnant by now (albeit about a week) so the poor baby going through that! Bless her, she will have no excuse not to go on it when she’s older!

We exited after a successful mission with stomach lining still intact and headed back over to Sunshine seasons for breakfast at 9:50. We had an adult breakfast platter each which consisted of sausage, bacon, scrambled egg, scone, seasoned potatoes and French toast. The total including a bottle of water and a coke was $23 which is very reasonable and also very yummy too, except the bacon, too crispy for me but that’s just my tastes!

Epcot Character Spot was next for a few more autographs. I had spent weeks making my autograph book and I was so proud of it! It had a personalised page for each character and the characters loved it, we got some really good interaction from them because of it! We waited about 15 mins to get in and we met Mickey, Pluto and Minnie. I showed Minnie my nails, she loved them! I will post a photo of them later in my trippie.

On the way out I decided to take some photos of the fountain, which decided to soak me and my camera in return! Lovely fountain.

We went over to Nemo but it showed a 45min wait so we decided to try later, we took some photos of Nemo and his friends and moved onto the World Showcase.
I was very worried that today was going to be heaving, it was the last day of the F&W festival and I had read somewhere that as it was the day after Veterans Day it was a bank holiday, but it really wasn’t that bad, quite quiet considering!
I had also bought the ‘drink around the world showcase’ things and requested for them to be delivered to the hotel but unfortunately they didn’t arrive. Probably a good thing really, Ross can handle his booze but I’m a lightweight and the last thing I want to be is drunk in Disney!

We wandered through Canada into the UK. We had a look in the shops and some of the ‘authentic’ British souvenirs, including this very British book about football...

Oh...soccer then...I thought we were in Britain?

In France, I managed to refrain from buying a plastic Eifel Tower, go me! I did go looking for the rose in a bell jar from Beauty and the Beast in the perfume shop but I couldn’t find it, has it been moved to Be Our Guest? I found all the ladies in the perfume shop very much like most of the ladies that work behind all the make-up and perfume counters in the department stores over here...inch think make up etc etc

I loved Morocco. The buildings, the shops, the smells, everything! That little square (it has a name, can’t remember it) that it all tiled and if you are quiet you can hear some goings on in the window upstairs, so cute! Love it! We also met Aladdin and Jasmine. Jasmine asked us how we met, if we met at the market and if I had to pretend to be his crazy sister who thought a camel was a doctor. I told her our story is unfortunately not as interesting as that, 6th form party when we were 16, wild!

Japan next! How about the lady in the shop who does the pearl thing? How crazy insane is she! We stood there for ages watching her say various things in her loud exciteable voice, banging those sticks together, she is so enthusiastic! Somebody give that woman a raise! We also spotted this hidden Mickey in the pond bit...

America was up next and we decided we needed a sit down with a cold drink! It was very hot today, about 28 degrees Celsius (I know to the folk that can handle the heat it’s not that hot but I’m useless in the heat so to me, it’s flippin’ boiling!) so we got a strawberry slush each and a choc chip cookie to share for a mere $15. We had a quick look in the shops, my best friend wanted me to bring her back something tacky and American so I bought her a Mickey head shaped pen with stars and stripes on, I figured that ticked all the boxes! Ross also bought some (more! ) golf balls with American themed decor on them.

You will notice we are not bothering with any of the various shows/rides they have on the World Showcase. To be honest we really weren’t fussed about any of them! We were really enjoying just wandering around and taking in all of the sights and the sounds. It was really quite a relaxing afternoon!

We had a look in the shops in Italy then moved onto Germany. We stood and looked at the model train for a while, we found it very amusing that there were a few lizards on the roofs of the model houses, was very Godzilla! I saw Snow White greeting folk so we went to join the queue only to be told it had just closed but to come back at 2:30 and she would me meeting people again, the CM gave us the sheet with all the meet times on. We had one of these in MK but for some reason didn’t look at it, not sure why as we could probably have got a lot more autographs if we had but never mind!

Ross has a look at the steins on the market stall things but they were far too heavy to bring home so instead he bought a beer with a souvenir stein for $12, according to Ross, the beer was rank! We later found out that you could but these steins in pretty much every country and he wished he had got one with the Union Jack on instead of the German flag and I didn’t fancy forking out for two!

Next stop on our whistle stop around the world was China. They had some beautiful things in the shops here, I really wanted to get one of the dresses but A. Too expensive and B. I knew for a fact I wouldn’t wear it (ever!) so I passed. Since Ross taught himself the art of using chopstick at Tony Romas last week he decided to buy himself a fancy pair in a nice box for $7. When we exited the shop we saw a line for Mulan which we swiftly joined. She loved my autograph book, her paged had a picture of Mushu on it so she was telling me what a naughty dragon he was! Ross had reverted back to his ‘too cool for the princesses’ ways so it was just me this time!

It was now just after 2:30 so it was time to go back and see Snow White. I waited about 10 mins to see her, Ross went to sit in the shade while I queued because he was too hot to stand around. He did come back when I was at the front of the queue (he claims he was coming to see if I had finished yet, but really he saw I was next in line and wanted to say hello to Snow). She asked if he was my Prince Charming, obviously I said yes!

I know what you are thinking, nearly 3pm and no lunch?! I know, crazy right? There were so many amazing eateries in Epcot and I wanted to try all of them but it was just far too hot for a big meal. We decided to get a little something from one of the F&W stalls. Italy got our vote and we decided to get the cheese and mince ravioli each for $9 (I don’t know if that’s each or all together, I only wrote $9 in my notes, I presume it was all together?) it was really really yummy and just enough to fill our bellies. While we were eating The Ziti Sisters did a performance, they are very funny and slightly crazy!

We had a look at the shops in Germany and got Oliver a Steiff bear for his birthday (he gets one every year, hes got a cute little collection now!) we also spotted a Cinderella Castle covered, in crystals for a mere $37,500! Would have got two if we could fit them in the case... obviously!

We made our way over to Norway, stopping between the outpost and China as the bridge was up to let the globe and fireworks through for tonight’s Illuminations. I have never seen so many fireworks in my life, boat loads of them! I dread to think how much it costs for them to put on those firework displays every night!

Then it was the last two countries of our trip around the world. There was a huge queue for Malestrom so we didn’t bother with that, we had a look around the little museum display things instead. There was also a big queue for Grand Fiesta Tour in Mexico so we skipped that as well which we don’t regret, I do, however, regret not trying on a sombrero! It’s like an unwritten rule you have to try one on and have a photo taken isn’t it? Never mind!

Looking at the meet and greet times, Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland were due in the UK soon so we walked back around to there and waited for them. I met Mary first while Ross took the photos because there were no photopass people at these greets. We then queued for Alice, her English accent was hilarious! She was either American putting on the accent or she was from Newcastle or something putting on a posh London accent! She was really fun though. I was wearing my heart necklace I bought at the Hard Rock Hotel so she thought I was working for the Queen of Hearts and she made me pinky swear that I wasn’t! Ross got a really good picture of it, it was a really great character interaction!

Belle was doing a meet and greet in France at 4:45. We had about 20 mins to spare so we watched the band in the UK murdering Pink Floyd and Queen amongst others. One of my fave songs is Pinball Wizard and I hate it when other people sing it, but at least they did a better job than the Glee cast did! But we did have fun listening to them play!

In the queue for Belle we got talking to a couple from Wisconsin who spotted my Wonder Woman trainers and showed us a photo of their 3 year old dressed up as Wonder Woman! As cute as she looked I really thought that it was a slightly inappropriate outfit for a toddler, she is known for not wearing all that much! They asked us if the UK Pavilion made us feel at home, not even a little bit! They agreed that the American one didn’t really paint a true picture either.

One we had met Belle we watched the guy build the stack of chairs on top of the bottles then do handstand on the chairs, brave bloke! Very clever.

We headed back over to Future World and saw Nemo was only 5 min wait so we went in and it was pretty much a walk on. It’s a cute little ride, we really enjoyed it. We had a look at all the fish tanks and saw the manatees being fed. We found lots of hidden mickeys in the huge tank. Then it was on to Turtle Talk, I loved this it’s so clever! Before we went I showed Ross the video of some bloke proposing in Turtle Talk, mega hint! But alas, no ring for me!

I suddenly realised we didn’t have any photopass pics in front of the golf ball! So we went to the front of the park and got pictures taken by every photographer we saw! Then we went inside the golf ball for Spaceship Earth.

I had to take Ross to the Cool Club! The good thing about being chief organiser is that you can find out about things like the Beverley and keep it a dirty secret from your travelling companion! We took it in turns to try the different flavours then when we came to the Beverley I told Ross to try it. I wish I had taken a photo, his face was a picture! He offered me a sip, I respectfully declined!

Tea time! Tonight we were dining at the Rose and Crown. I asked for a table outside for optimal firework viewing. They said they would have one free shortly so they gave us a pager and we went inside the pub for some drinks. Ross ordered a beer, I’m guessing some British make, and I had a raspberry vodka and lemonade, $17! That’s worse than HRH pool bar prices! I guess it’s a combination of importation costs and general Disney overpricing, safe to say we stuck at one drink each! Our buzzer went off about 15 mins later and we were seated outside at 7:30. It was a tad chilly now but I had brought a jumper and jeans to change into, there were also heat lamps by the tables to I was lovely and toasty! I ordered the cottage pie and Ross chose the steak and fried fish. The total came to $63, we left $76. That cottage pie was the nicest I have ever had! And Ross also thoroughly enjoyed his meal. I had heard some iffy reviews about the food here but it was lovely!

The fireworks started at 9, we had a really great view. The show was amazing, totally different to Wishes, I loved the globe. We did prefer Wishes, it was more magical, more Disney but Illuminations definitely portrayed what Epcot is all about and it was an incredible show.

On the way back to the park entrance we spotted this hidden mickey on a big F&W champagne flute...

We were out of the park by 9:30 and got the monorail to MK, we saw the end of Wishes out of the monorail window. From MK we caught the bus back to I-Drive and we were at the hotel by 10:45. Straight to bed...what a day!
