私たちは、東京ディズニーリゾートに行きます G&D Day 8

DAY 8 (5/9/13) – Tray rage / Parade rage

We have breakfast in our room but by buying stuff from the eatery shops downstairs. We have really fruity yoghurts and they are not over sugared like UK ones. We have pumpkin bread from the Tick Tock Diner – ain’t it cute?:

There is torrential rain again this morning. Even more torrential than yesterday. We hate to be boring but we are headed back to Tokyo DisneySea yet again. I could live in this park. We decide to take the plunge and grab Fastpasses for Toy Story Mania.

Our return time is 11:55. Catching the overhead Electric Railway – they so need one of these at WDW in Hollywood Studios – we arrive at the Port of Discovery. It’s worth mentioning that there are two huge murals in the station and they are filled with Hidden Mickeys.

Before I forget, I must mention the popcorn:

Here they do two unique flavours – Strawberry which is OK and Curry which is fabulous! We brought a load back for our nephews and our friend Jenny who looked after Blair, our Westie. A quick jschuzz in the microwave and it was like you were back in the park.

We stroll over to Journey to the Centre of the earth but the lines are way too long. We are transferring over to Tokyo Disneyland later so don’t bother to get a Fastpass. On to Lost River Delta for a character and photo meet with Donald at Saludos Amigos landing stage. We are grateful to get out of the pouring rain. By the time we have shook off ponchos and got organised Donald has arrived and the session starts:

Donald is the only character that appeals to Darrin. He just likes his explosions – says he’s like me! Charming!

I should say we never did get the official photo. I mentioned before that unlike Photopass a picture at Tokyo Disney is only available on the day it is in taken and even then you have to return in an allocated time window to get it. We completely forgot so the picture above is the one I took.

From here we go into Arabian Coast and take another ride on Sinbad’s Storybook Adventures. Just love the music on this. The rain continues and it is feeling chilly so we take a seat at the Sultan’s Oasis where we enjoy coffees and maple cream balls (rather like profiteroles).

Once last look around Agrabah Marketplace and I pick up a Genie trick. One minute the rope is limp – the next it is vertically rigid and “Sim Salabim” it goes limp again. (No double entendres please!)

The rain starts to ease off and so we head over to Mermaid Lagoon – at least we’ll be under cover. As we go down the steps Prince Eric is doing a meet & greet. Have to say he is not unlike his cartoon version:

We watch the Little Mermaid show purely to see the Ursula puppet again. Just an amazing animatronic. Once again the CMs patrol the aisles to ensure no photography or video takes place. (Any photos I have used in previous day reports are library pictures.)

Time for Toy Story Mania. The fact all the characters speak Japanese does not detract from the fun of this ride.

I score 12,000 but Darrin gets 67,000. My defence was that I was trying to video at the time! From the TSM souvenir stall outside I get an amazing cover for my iphone:

I just love the Little Green Men.

We head back to the hotel and from there into Ikspiari. This is so we can check out the trains from the Japan Railways station to Tokyo tomorrow. It would involve changing to the Metro and they don’t do an integrated ticket. Struggling with 4 suitcases and our other bags really put sme off the idea. A kind person who sees us gawping at the maps and looking totally confused intervenes. They speak great English. They inform us that a bus goes from the Disneyland bus station – Stop #2 - all the way to Shijuku station for 800 Yen each. (£ 5.44 each) and it takes about 40 to 45 minutes. We double check at the bus station as we head on into Tokyo Disneyland Park. So that’s that sorted.

We head straight up to the Pooh’s Hunny hunt to try for another go but the Standby line is over 2 hours. All Fastpasses have gone. As we are both feeling hungry we decide to have lunch at the Queen of Hearts Banqueting Hall. This is situated rather like the Be Our Guest restaurant at Orlando's Magic Kingdom. Instead of a rocky mountain the top of this affair has been created to look like a large maze with the King & Queen of Hearts castle in the distance.

This is a free flow quick service restaurant and once again I have to say you won’t see chicken nuggets or pizza on the menu. The queuing area is lined with large elegant flowers a la Wonderland and then when you reach the food area it is “on stage” with all the fittings and décor themed to hearts.

From today’s offerings for Darrin – Swordfish with olive tapenade and tomatoes followed by a light strawberry mousse. I go with creamed corn soup, garlic rotisserie chicken and finish with souvenir cup dessert. (The dessert is in a heart shaped tea cup with Alice on it). Grape juice to drink.

All very well up to now. As I’m waiting for my grape juice a pair of hands grab my tray. I place mine on the end. There is a tiny tug of war and lots of Arigato from the CM who is trying to pick up my tray. I then realise she is trying to take it over to the knives and forks bit. The grape juice arrives on the sill and as I reach for it another CM picks it up. I try to grasp it but it is whisked away. What is going on!

The two of them gather cutlery, serviettes, condiments etc. and I am escorted to a table whilst they set my place, put my plates and bowls down and then clear the tray. All very nice and polite but it does take you by surprise. The same had happened to Darrin but I hadn’t seen it as I was waiting for my drink. We remark that we are surprised they didn’t eat the meal for us! We decide to call the incident “Tray Rage!” The food was delicious and afterwards I take time to get some shots of the wonderful stained glass windows featuring Wonderland characters.

As It’s a Small World is right next door we head on in and ride it in tribute to my Dibbcast mate Rob. I take a photo to email to him – just to annoy him!

We do some final shopping and just wander around soaking up the atmosphere. The rain has finally cleared away and where we had a monsoon in the morning we have mid 30s in the afternoon.
We get in position one last time outside the Elias Hotel in Westernland. Halloween has now taken over in this area of the park:

Now I’ve explained how it all works. Three or four rows of people put mats down on the floor about an hour before the start of the parade. These mats are sacrosanct and nobody invades the space they occupy. Family members come and go until they settle about five to ten minutes before showtime. Everybody sits. Behind them space is left for a walk way and then there is our row where we all have our backsides propped on the edge of the hotel boardwalk. When the parade commences we can stand up and we are in nobody’s way. This has happened for 3 events now so we guess it standard. Well, Suzuki isn’t having that. Yes, that WAS the CMs name. (It means “swift” or “speedy” which she wasn’t.) If you had stolen a doll from the Chinese / Japanese section of the It's a Small World ride she couldn’t have fitted the role better. She had the “pudding basin” haircut and her cheeks were rouged like some rag doll. Anyhow she decides a second standing row should be admitted to the area. I am oblivious to all of this as I’m studying a park map trying to work something out. Suddenly Darrin shoots to his feet and shouts: “Oh! No you don’t!” It takes me a minute to realise what’s going on. Four terrified teenage girls scatter to the four winds! Darrin firmly but politely informs Suzuki that he hasn’t occupied his place for over an hour for folk to stand in front of him. She bows and obviously defers to this Englishman’s rant. (This becomes “Parade rage”.) Anyhow, the parade takes place without further incident:

We are having a night in so to speak as we need to get packing done ready for our move tomorrow. It’s a chillax evening as we have a couple of drinks from the minibar whilst I wrap dirty laundry around precious souvenirs. The hotel does not have any in house laundry facilities and the service they do offer ,whilst lightning service, is way too expensive. Now it’s at this point that I know I have the ladle for the Genie gravy boat we bought earlier in the week. What became of it after that – heaven only knows as we haven’t seen it since. (All suitcases and bags were thoroughly tipped out when we got back home.)

We go for a light meal at the Hyperion Lounge – have a few more drinkies – their cocktail this evening is an “Early Autumn” (it contained Grenadine and aniseed). This is their official pic of it:

We choose pizza to eat – yes, they do them but these are made from scratch. Darrin has seafood and I have ham but when it arrives we mix and match. The seafood one:

Some nice Chardonnay washes it all down. Heading back to our room I have a hot soak in the bath, Darrin chooses to shower and then we get in our beds for a full night’s sleep.
