Squirrels and Sizzlers - Day 10 - The one with the fried chicken fiasco

*Warning* Really long photo heavy day! I know it's one extreme to another on this trippie!

More Disney today, YAY!
We left the room at 7:30 to go and get the bus to the TTC but Ross, with his paranoid mind, decided he had to go and check if he had shut the hotel room door was shut. He does this at home all the time, he will drive half way down our street then decide he has to reverse back to our front door to check it is shut! Every day! Anyways, while he was off being paranoid and taking forever, the bus we should have been on went past! I wasn’t prepared to wait ages for another bus and miss rope drop so we decided to get a taxi. The driver was talking on her phone half the time, at one point she was too busy taking and missed the exit so just suddenly turned her steering wheel and went over the grass to get onto the road she should have been on, crazy lady nearly killed me before I had a chance to ride TSM!

We arrived at DHS at 8:30. We had a few photos in front of the big Christmas tree then started queuing at the turnstiles. They opened the park at 8:50 and we headed straight for the Backlot Tour... like heck we did! We ran with everybody else to TSM! We went to the FP machine and got a couple of FPs for 9:45-10:45 then got in the standby queue which was showing only 5mins. Flippin love this ride! It’s really good, now I know why the queues are always so big! It really lets me and Ross unleash our competitive sides, pulling the chord thing like crazy! I won this round and I made sure Ross knew it! Roll on FP time for round 2!

Next it was onto the other two biggies so we walked down Sunset Boulevard, stopping for some photopass pics on the way. The photographer asked us to pretend to be scared, Ross put him heart and soul into it...not! First was ToT, which was a walk on. I loved this ride when I came all those years ago and I still love it now, and so does Ross he thought it was great.
Next was RnRC which was also a walk on. I love the first bit of the ride where it shoots you out but the rest just wasn’t as good as it used to be. Maybe it just seemed faster and better when I was younger but I didn’t get the usual rollercoaster thrill with this one this time round, Ross also felt it was a bit of a letdown. Never mind!

Heart and soul...haha!

The face of the guy on the front row scares me slightly!

Some folk don’t know how to make the most of a ride photo!

We had now done the three big rides and it was only 9:30! Good stuff. Time for breakfast! We went to Starring Rolls. I have written down that we got a cinnamon roll, croissant, chocolate croissant and a bagel with cream cheese. I honestly can’t remember who had what or how it tasted but I’m going to take a stab in the dark and say that it was yummy! It came to $16.

Note my unintentional hidden Mickey!

It was time for our TSM FPs, Ross won this time and yes, he rubbed it in my face...stupid Karma!. It’s just the best ride ever! Ross bought me the Xbox game of it so we have rematches at home all the time, he’s a lot better at the Xbox version!

We went over to the Great Movie Ride next which was about a 10min wait. We had a look at the hand prints outside first, I found Charlton Heston’s with his name spelt wrong.
I really love this ride, we had the gangster theme. While in the ride Ross told me he had never seen the Wizard of Oz...what? How?! That was soon rectified, we got it on DVD for Christmas!

Spot the mistake

We had a wander to Streets of America and we could see all of the buildings draped in unlit fairy lights, tonight was gonna be goooood!

Muppets 3D was a walk on too, apart from the little pre-show thing. I found the key under the mat! We both really enjoyed it, I know some people say it’s boring and needs a revamp but I think it’s hilarious!

Next we went to meet Lightening McQueen and Mater then got FPs for Star Tours. I wanted to ride ToT again so we went back only to find out that the standby queue was 80mins and all the FP tickets were gone. We had a spy in some of the shops on Sunset Boulevard and spent a few pennies. We got a Jack Skellington head bauble, an iPad case and Ross got a Planet Hollywood golf ball. We also had some more photopass pics taken, along with our first ‘magic shot’.

Lunch tiiiime! Today we were dining at 50s Prime Time. We arrived just before our 1:15 ADR, checked in and had a seat in the living room and watched telly until we were called through ‘dinner’s ready!’ I absolutely loved the theming of this restaurant, the tables with the TVs next to them looked just like a little 50s American dining room. Our server was Cousin Quinn.
Ross ordered onion rings to start and Mom’s Old-fashioned Pot Roast for his main, I opted out of a starter and ordered Aunt Liz’s Golden Fried Chicken for my main. Now, I am fussy with my meat, I don’t like anything raw and bloody (rare steaks etc) even uncooked mince gives me the heebie jeebies and I hate anything with bones. The idea of eating ribs grosses me out, gnawing on bones, just... ew. When I ordered my fried chicken I kind of just expected like fillet type things like you get in KFC but no...it was one massive leg or something, bones and all! Ross claims he knew that it would haves bones in but since he failed to tell me when I ordered I think he was talking phooey! Ross to the rescue though, he offered to cut all the meat off the bone so I could just eat the meat, sorted! No. I ate the veg but I couldn’t eat the meat. I know, I know, I’m crazy, please don’t judge me! That’s just the way it was so let’s just move on shall we.

The dreaded chicken!

For some unknown reason, I had room for pudding! We decided to share a desert and ordered a chocolate brownie complete with squirty cream, Mickey sprinkles, smarties, popcorn and topped with a cherry, yum yum! While we were waiting for our desert some guy was brought through from the other seating area and was made to stand with his forehead on the doorframe all because he put his elbows on the table! I love this place! Our dessert was lovely, very rich but still yummy. The bill came to $53 and we left $12 tip, Cousin Quinn was great!

That’s what you get for putting your elbows on the table!

It wasn’t too long until the Pixar Countdown to Fun Parade would start and since we were yet to see a parade we decided to find a spot to watch it. We found a wall right next to where the parade ends so we set up camp there and relaxed in the sun for a while. That was until some guy with his army of kids stood right in front of us! No mate, I don’t think so! Ross asked him to move, he huffed and puffed but thankfully he went to find somewhere else to watch the parade. Because we were right at the end of the parade route it took a while for the floats to reach us but we had a great view and I really enjoyed it! The music is so catchy. Not Ross’s kind of thing thought, he doesn’t do the singing, dancing, happy happy thing!

It was now time for our Star Tour FPs, I thought this ride was great I do like simulators! Some young lad on board was a secret spy, bless him!

We had done all of the rides we wanted to now, I did fancy seeing the Little Mermaid show but I knew it wouldn’t be Ross’s cup of tea so I decided not to put him through it! So we went back to see what the queue for ToT was like, I was uber smart and used the zoom on my camera to see that the queue time was 90mins, that saved us a wasted walk down Sunset Boulevard! I know we were being extremely optimistic but we went to see what the queue for TSM was like, yea I know wishful thinking! It was well over an hour.

I had heard all about the animation classes and I really wanted to have a go. Before joining the queue for the classes we met Mr Incredible and Frozone and Sorcerer Mickey. I earned a sticker in the queue for Mickey, the CM was doing a little Disney quiz to keep the folk in the queue entertained and I answered a question right!

Note my awsome Goofy sticker

We joined the queue for the drawing class and waited about 10mins and we were told off by some American lady for sitting on the floor! Not even a cast member, just a grumpy old lady. Stupid woman. We were going to learn to draw Winnie the Pooh, it was good fun we both really enjoyed it and I was quite proud of our drawings, I think we did well!
(Will add photos of our great drawings tomorrow!)

The original plan was to see Fantasmic this evening then head over to Streets of America for the Osbourne Lights but I had heard about the awful exiting procedure for Fantasmic and neither of us fancied it so we decided to give it a miss. We had a nice slow paced wander around the park, taking photos and having a look in shops. We bought Disney Monopoly in Writers Stop which, until now when I have typed this up, I completely forgot about! I’m not even sure where it is! Will have to hunt it out and have a bash since we have never even taken it out of the wrapping! Shameful.

We had a sit down on the kerb on Streets on America just in time for the switch on of the Osbourne Lights. What can I say? It was amazing. Indescribable. Like nothing either of us have ever seen before. The walls were just covered in lights that danced to the music it was incredible. And fake snow! Snow! I just so Christmassy and happy it was great. We wandered up and down taking photos and counting all of the hidden Mickeys. We got a few photopass pics too, the queues were really long and it took a while as they couldn’t take photos when the lights stopped for a minute or so after every Christmas song but it didn’t matter because we would just be standing around watching the lights anyways!

At 7:15 we dragged ourselves away from the spectacular lights and see if the queue for ToT had died down, I was so desperate to ride again! It was still 40mins which was a bit too long so we headed for the exit. I was a bit gutted I didn’t get to go on it again but there’s always next time!
The park was really busy today which was quite a shock for us since all the parks have been dead so far! We still had a great time though and got at least one go on every ride we wanted to go on without having to queue for more than 5mins which was excellent.

We did the usual, bus to TTC, Lynx to Sea World and iTrolley to the hotel by 8:30. We dumped the bags in our room and went across the road to Pointe Orlando for tea. Ross chose Hooters, can’t imagine why! Ross got the BBQ chicken wings for starter and pulled pork sandwich and I got the chicken strip cheese sandwich which was absolutely loaded with cheese, it was amazing! I couldn’t eat all of it, it was far too filling but yum yum I loved it! Ross really enjoyed his too, it was like a pulled pork toastie!. The bill came to $33. We rounded it up to $40. I also bought one of the tank tops for $19.

We went back to the hotel, watched TV in bed for a while then went to sleeps.

Some great pics in there along with some great stories...The guy with his head up against the door frame as a punishment cracks me up !
Only at WDW could you find some giant grown up guy standing with his forehead pressed up against a doorframe...can you imagine trying that in Nando's eh ? , dont think it would get the same jovial reaction from the public...

The guy on the front row of TOT scares me too , looks a bit Charles Manson in the making , wouldn't be nice on a dark ride with him...nutter..

Great pics from a packed day , you guys must've been knackered !?

Thanks for reading. 50s PT is very...unique, to say the least! Wish nandos was more like Disney, I'd go there if it was!

Another great day. The beginning of RnRC is definitely the best part of the ride. Dinner at Hooters looks yummy!

It was seriously yummy and so cheap! And they had about 6 different TV screens all with different sports on which pleased ross, he wasn't remotely interested in the waitresses
