:) Another Dose of Disney Dreams August 2016 - Day 17 - O'hana Breakfast & Drinks Around the World!

INDEX

Previous day - here

Sunday 21st August

As usual I was the first one to wake up I’d slept really well and didn’t hear any movement from neighbours until 7.30am. I wrote some notes then had a look through the photos on My Disney Experience, I love how they come through really quickly. We’d be getting some great pictures and I thought that they seemed to be more photographers about than our last visit.

We had a late morning reservation for the character breakfast at the Polynesian so no need for us to have anything to eat at Riverside. Once we’d all got ready we were out of the room for 9.30 and instead of doing our usual, going to the car, we headed off to the bus station instead. Scott was going to have a drive free day today, think he deserved one. It meant that he’d be able to sample a few of the alcoholic beverages on our little trip around World Showcase today.

Looked really quiet as we arrived at the bus station, checked the timetable and a Magic Kingdom bus was due very soon. Most impressed that it only took 10 minutes to get there, first time we’d ever done this trip.

Once we arrived at Magic Kingdom we walked up to the station to catch the monorail round to the Polynesian, you know how much we love to ride this.

Before we knew it wed arrived at our destination and 15 minutes ahead of our adr time. We checked in then had a little look round as the Polynesian was being refurbished when we got married.

It was really busy with lots of families waiting I figured we’d be waiting a while so luckily we found a few spare seats and the kids settled down to watching the TV.

Waited ½ hour then we were called in I and we were seated at the end of a long row of tables. Hadn’t really noticed before how big this restaurant is and we could see Mickey and Pluto was just a couple of tables away from us. Poppy got her autograph book out but we got told that the characters were going in the opposite direction so it would be a while until they visited us.

Meanwhile the music came on and Mickey and Pluto did the dance around the restaurant. Much to our surprise Jamie and Poppy got up and joined in with the parade, they’re really quiet kids but I was glad to see them getting up and enjoying the conga.

Our server introduced herself then explained about how this meal is served family style, we had been one time before so did know how this one worked. Some delicious bread was soon brought
out along with the lovely fruit juice and coffee for us adults. Then a little after some fruit and the bowl which was filled with lots of breakfast goodies.

Noticed that some of the waffles here were stitch ones, how cool. Mind you this did cause a squabble between Jamie and Poppy as to who was going to eat these! I promptly asked for some more to stop the bickering! I wouldn’t mind but they tasted exactly the same as the Mickey waffles.

First to arrive was Mickey, he took us by surprise actually as he seemed to appear from nowhere.

Having had another bowl of hot food between us along with another plate of food we were all feeling quite full. Our server came over though with some cupcakes for our anniversary, so cute. I asked for a container to put them in so we could take them away to eat later.

After some time Pluto came to visit us and was swiftly followed by the lovely Lilo who was as lovely as always.

Eventually after another wait Stitch came to see us. Don’t get me wrong we were really glad to see him but the cast member who came with Stitch was extremely rude to us, especially Hayden. She spoke to him really abruptly and told him to get on with it! In other words hurry up and have your photo took  It takes Hayden a while to process things. I couldn’t be bothered saying anything to her, if my kids hadn’t have been there I would have though. I asked Hayden if he wanted to say hi to Stitch, which he did and I took my time taking photos. We’d been sat here waiting patiently all this time, no way was we rushing!

Autograph booked signed and photos taken we left O’hana’s, we were so glad to get out as it was lunch time now. With our wait before hand we’d been there 2 hours! The family on the table next to us had younger children than us and they’d become really restless bless them, they’d also missed their fast pass in Magic Kingdom but they give them some free fast passes.

I wanted to have a very quick look outside, yes you can guess why to reminisce about our wedding day.

It was another hot day with gorgeous blue skies, as soon as we walked outside the heat hit us. We walked round and didn’t see anyone it was so quiet, the beach was as beautiful as always with that wonderful view.

Of course I couldn’t resist standing back under the palm trees it was so lovely to be able to do that again. I set the camera up for Jamie and he took a photo of us bless.

Well that was enough of the reminiscing for now time for us to have a little adventure in Epcot!

Just had to have a sniff

Yes and you’d be right in thinking we’d be taking our favourite mode of transport over to Epcot.

Caught the resort monorail round first and it was only later when we thought we could’ve walked round from the Polynesian to the monorail station – never mind.

It’s a lovely ride over to Epcot and it made a nice change doing it this way. As you come into Epcot you manage to see it in a different way.

Because we’d been in Ohana’s for ages we’d missed our first 2 fast passes for spacehip earth and mission space. Kids weren’t bothered you can generally get on these with no problem, the third fast pass being for the new Frozen ride. Hayden did ask if we could maybe go on Test Track so we went to get a return time for him.

Tinkerbell is there!

Afterwards we headed up to World Showcase, on the way though Jamie said he wanted to wash his feet in the little fountains as you do! Think he meant he wanted to cool them down, Poppy joined in too

Then we were faced with the age old dilemma of which way to walk round the world! Well after much deliberating and with us being creatures of habit we opted for a Canadian start.

As soon as we arrived Scott disappeared off somewhere, I was just about to curse him under my breath as you do you when he came walking back with a couple of beers in hand. What a wonderful husband! No idea what kind of beer is was, it was quite light in colour and I do remember quite like this particular drink.

Went down a treat!

As we reached Canada Poppy asked for her Duffy bear so she could finish off colouring it and collecting the stamps. Whoops I’d forgotten to bring them with me. No problem it just meant we had to start all over again.

Whilst in the UK we had another look around the shops and the little teapot set that I’d seen on our previous visit was still calling to me. I decided to buy one – there wasn’t any out so asked a cast member if they had any more elsewhere. She said I could take the one already there but it had no box. I knew that wouldn’t be any use, I needed to get it back home in one piece. She looked at the system and told me there had loads of them in Mouse Gear – right we’d call there later, if I remember!

With the kids and I having a browse round the tea shop Scott had popped over the road to the Rose and Crown for another beer of some sort

United Kingdom pavilion finished we crossed over the bridge to France stopping off for a few more memory maker photo’s en route.

We arrived in France where we had another look around the shops. It was my turn to try a few hats on but they don’t suit me unlike Poppy

Hmmm not quite for me!

Next port of call was our new favourite ice cream shop L’Artisan de Glaces. Using some more of our snack credits up Hayden and Jamie had an ice cream whilst Poppy chose a fruity sorbet.

I went for the Ice Cream Martini which isn’t a snack credit. You get to choose 2 scoops of ice cream and then a shot of alcohol, I had Grand Marnier on my coconut white choc and apple cinnamon biscuit ice cream! The flavour combinations were probably not what you’d have with the orange of the grand Marnier but I wasn’t bothered. It was super creamy with a delicious kick to it – so good!

As we left France I spotted a photographer so Scott and I grabbed a picture whilst the kids watched on.

On our previous time her we’d managed to have a really look around Morocco so we just paid a flying visit here. It was mainly for Poppy to get her stamp on the Duffy bear and do a little more colouring.

Of course the next country in this loop was Japan and we wanted to have more of an explore round here.

First stop for us was inside in the main big shop, we perused the various Hello Kitty and Pokemon merchandise before stopping at the pick a pearl area. When we last visited I wanted to get Poppy a pearl as a gift for being such a super flower girl, but I just totally forgot you know how it is. So I asked Poppy if she’d like to have one - I’d still got the little Cinderella carriage which I’d purchased from an Etsy shop, extremely cheaply I should add.

We went over to register and I paid the $18, Poppy was given a number and we waited until our number was called. It wasn’t busy so the wait only took five or so minutes.

Once called over Poppy got to choose her oyster, the cast member than bowed to Poppy and then it was opened and cleaned. He was very enthusiastic as were all of the cast members and I remember at one point there was some banging on a drum?

Poppy’s pearl

In the Cinderella carriage

As we walked back out we could hear some more drums, these were a lot louder though. Some ladies had come out to do a display so we watched for a little while, they were very good.

We then walked through to have a look at the exhibit which was called Kawaii, Poppy especially loved this area and it was quite interesting to see.

Back in the shop the kids wanted to buy some of the Japanese sweets, of course they’d seen some of their favourite Youtuber’s sampling some and they wanted to. I told them no, we’ve got enough American candy to chew on!

Continuing on with our lovely walk our next country to visit was the USA. I must admit that normally we just walk past here as were in the US already but after Poppy and I had collected our stamps etc we decided to go inside for a change.

Sadly the choir was finishing their last few notes of their very patriotic song so we didn’t get to hear them for long. I do remember though when Scott and I first visited 20 yrs ago listening to them and we thought it was amazing.

Hayden said he wanted to watch the show next, never realised there was one but I thought why not. We followed everyone up the stairs and into the theatre and settled down to watch the American Adventure.

It turned out to be rather interesting but I must admit to dropping off a couple of times. It was lovely to see Hayden taking an interest in American history otherwise I don’t think we’d have bothered. Still it was something different to see and wed escaped the hot sun foe half an hour.

The fast pass for the Frozen ride was approaching now so we had to walk all the way across to Norway which was a bit of a struggle in the heat.

We made it in plenty of time and as we approached I thought that the lines looked fine, that as busy as I expected but on looking closer I spotted that the standby line was 90 minutes. Thank goodness for fast pass.

The queuing area was really lovely inside, we were in there a while before boarding the boat but a more manageable 20 minutes or so. We did all enjoy it even Jamie and I think visually it is very good the animatronics are amazing so all in all is quite sweet.
Poppy had never been keen on the Maelstrom ride she just didn’t like the troll or when the boat went backwards. She was still apprehensive about this even though it was all about Frozen. Thankfully she declared that she’d loved it.

I checked the times and noticed that the princess Mulan was visiting very soon in China so we thought we’d visit her whilst in the area. We’d never seen her before and Poppy was excited at the prospect of meeting a new princess.

Mulan was really lovely and had a long chat with everyone who met her - Poppy had a really good chinwag with her. I think it’s good when they take time to properly talk to you.

Whilst we’d been chatting to Mulan Scott and the boys watched the acrobats, we joined them after we’d finished.

Once the show had finished we came back out to look for the kidcot area and saw that it was located in the large shop. Poppy get her stamp and we had a look round before leaving China.

Because we’d come over to the Frozen ride we’d skipped a couple of countries so we walked back across to Italy.

Kids spotted this very cool hidden Mickey as we walked by, it was a shadow of a table and chairs.

As we arrived in Italy a juggling mime clown was performing and giving the small crowd a good laugh. We managed to catch the last 5 minutes of his show, kids really liked him and he did some great tricks with the footballs!

Moving on to Germany next where we just had to pay a visit to Karamell Kuche – it just smelt so good as we entered and the ladies there were busy making lots of that yummy popcorn. Now the kids did ponder whether or not to get some but in the end they decided on some big crisp rice treat covered with caramel and some chocolate wafers, both were snack credits.

Scott had nipped to the bar and bought a beer, not sure which one but he said it was good!

Went to get our Duffy’s stamped which of course was in the shop, we had a look at those cuddly Teddy bears and managed to resist buying one. There were lots of other interesting things in there, those giant playmobil figures were a bit creepy though

Lots of beautiful cuckoo clocks

Ended back up in China where we had a sit down in a shaded area. It still felt very hot and it had been another day where we’d not experienced any rain.

Scott had walked off again whilst I was sat with the kids but came back with a couple of drinks for us. They were both cocktails, mine was some fruity number whilst Scott’s was a coffee with bourbon whisky and chocolate! I thought it was a quite strange combination when Scott said what it was but after tasting the drink I was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted.

We stopped off at the little stall next where Jamie and Poppy had a play around with the Chinese puppets. Poppy ended up getting the small white unicorn for $15.

Back to Norway again as we continued with our Duffy bear collection which was filling up very nicely now.

I’ve always, on each of our visits, took a photo of the kids next to that giant troll - so happy to see that it was still there.

Then it was on to our last country, Mexico. This is one of my favourite pavilions I love how it’s the evening time here and the colourful courtyard and fountain.

So pretty

We had to go on Poppy’s favourite here the Gran Fiesta then we did our usual of looking round the shops at the Mexican merchandise.

Poppy collected her last stamp and her collection was complete. I forgot to take a photo that night but here’s a picture I took later of all the countries stamps.

Now I’d asked the kids on a few of occasions if they were hungry and they’d kept replying no but now their answer had changed. We deliberated as to which quick service would be the best then Scott mentioned the fish and chip shop in England. That was it the kids wanted to go there. I explained we’d have to walk round there, the short way I must add, but they said they didn’t mind at all so off we went.

Once we’d arrived at the Yorkshire county fish shop or chippy as we say, we ordered 4 meals between us all, I for one wasn’t particularly hungry and the portions were a fair size. I really loved the little Victoria sponges that came with the meal I could’ve just eaten those!

Afterwards we made our way back to Test Tack to use the return time, the sun was going down and the park looked really beautiful as we walked round there.

Once we arrived at Test Track we saw that the fast pass queue was ridiculously long, well even at a distance you could see how bad the line was. We said we’d give it as miss as we’d probably be stood there for quite some time.

Popped into Mouse Gears, yes I’d remembered and they had loads of the Alice in Wonderland teapot for one set which were all securely boxed up, so I bought one.

We caught the bus back to luckily again for us a bus was just pulling in as we approached the stop. It was 8.30 when we left Epcot we’d had such a brilliant day.

The bus didn’t stop at the south depot so we had quite a bit of a walk back when we got off the bus. I thought we could maybe watch a movie under the stars so I checked the times but there wasn’t one on that night

I suggested we went for a swim to cool off a bit as it had been such a hard day, Poppy was soon changed and ready for her dip in the pool lol. We headed over to the big pool which was super busy, I suspect there were quite a few people today who had felt the heat and were in need of a cooling swim. We splashed around for an hour or so before going back, I felt a bit tired now I think that bit of alcohol had tired me out a little. In bed for 10.30 and I was out like a light!

We had so enjoyed our trip around the world today - definitely our best time at Epcot so far, a brilliant day

Tomorrow we'll be going to Blizzard Beach

Another really lovely day, breakfast looked good, shame about the CM! How rude.
And a wonderful walk around the showcase! Some great photos, and agree, your hubby is excellently trained at looking after your drinking requirements that chocolate coffee bourbon drink looks divine. Your holiday just looks fabulous from start to finish.

Wow what a great day! I didn't know most of this existed at Epcot! My fav day I've read on TP's. I really wanted to do a lot of what you did but we have a big family so it ends up being a fiasco! Lovely photos
