Going with the Flow in Largo. Day 3 Leaping Leprechauns ! Ellenton and St Patty's Day at Dunedin

The day before is HERE

Ah, St Patty’s Day

Its all over the news

I knew it was a big thing in New York and Chicago

But I’ve never heard it called St Patty’s Day before

Or last all weekend !

We are due to meet up again with the crowd from yesterday later on today at a place called Dunedin.

But that is quite a bit later on so after morning coffee on the balcony and easing into the morning, we head out for breakfast.

off we went to Denny's as it was closest.

We were treated to two hilarious servers who clearly didn't get along .. " oh, I see you put my customers at your table ..dear " and " that would be your table that needs clearing ..dear " . Pass the saucer of milk ladies

They clearly hadn't got the memo

Happily, the food was good.

Andy had a Philly cheesesteak omelette

I had a supreme skillet of potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, sausage and scrambled egg. The warning about fried and poached eggs being underdone kinda put me off anything but scrambled

And a side of french toast

Another delicious $30 breakfast

We left here just after 11 and popped next door to Walmart.

We didn’t need to do any shopping but I picked up a few of Jamie’s favourite things and a box of pastries for us – in case of further missing breakfasts !

I looked longingly at the massive parfait tubs

And wondered how sickly the leprechaun cakes would be

We had a drive around the area

Road signs of happiness

This Place, called the Toy Store, made us laugh … full of high end cars

Girls Gun Wild , dontchya know

This made us laugh

It was nice just looking around and we ended up back at the apartment around 1pm.

Where we made the snap decision to go to the Outlets at Ellenton – figuring it will be busy over the weekend and we still have a few hours to kill before going up to Dunedin.

So Off here

Andy hates this bridge, he says it freaks him out

I love the view as you come over

We arrived just after 2.30 and it was empty

But WARM !

So we had ice- cream from the Hersheys place – Caramel Cheesecake. Nom Nom

Really empty

Andy picked up a few bits in Lacoste and I got some stuff in Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger – all in the shopping haul link I posted on Day 1

Its lovely here , It may be our favourite of all the malls.

A good couple of hours mooching in the sunshine and back over this

I think it’s a spectacular design

Past the Rays Stadium, Tropicana Field

We arrived back just before 6 and two huge pizzas had been delivered from Sardos.

$17.99 for extra large and $2.75 per extra topping. There was one plain and one that was half sausage, half mushroom.

Very nice too. Reminded us of Julianas.

Important to carb up before setting off for the evening.

We got an Uber cab to Dunedin just after 7.

It was madness !

The main street is blocked off and was just rammed with people

It was more like Mardi Gras, people dressed up, loads of beads

Lots of stalls and beer trucks along the street

And a VERY long queue for the portaloos. Ewww

We ended up around here , next to a bar that didn’t have a ridiculous queue. Only problem was you could only sit at a table if you were eating.

There was Irish dancing, and lots of very drunk but happy people randomly wishing you Happy St Pattys Day.

It had quite a carnival atmosphere

One very drunk young lady had lost her backpack and was adamant she had left it near us

Nope definitely not luv.

She got a bit aggressive and poked me several times.

Uh Oh , there may be trouble ahead ... but Andy pointed in the other direction assuring her he had just seen someone heading off over there with it ...

We thought no more of it

45 minutes later she is steaming back towards us

But with said back pack

And believes its rescue was all down to Andy so she bear hugs and slobbers all over him.

I walked the other way laughing – too much.

Crazy drunken people !

It was $2 for a plastic glass of beer in the bar and a fair few were consumed.

I had a $5 glass of wine that tasted like gnats pee. Horrible.

We tried in vain to meet up with the folks from yesterday but the place they were in was not allowing any more people to enter and whilst we waited around for a bit, making use of the outdoor heaters, it was clear we weren’t getting in ( Dunedin Smokehouse by the way, it looked very nice)

So there was more of this

And this

And then my camera battery died
.
It was crazy, loud, but all very good natured.

Kids, Dogs, Older people, Younger people, Policemen and quite a few leprechauns.

Everyone just having a good time. We didn’t see any trouble or bad behaviour at all.

It was great .
We called Uber just before 11 as we reckoned everyone would be leaving soon and getting a cab would be a nightmare.

We had a funny driver , he was good fun and got us back in no time at all.

It had been a night of Emerald madness

The next day is HERE

That bridge is freaky looking!

Caramel cheesecake ice cream sounds gorgeous.

St Patty's makes me cringe! Very bemused by the American's love of March 17th.

We visited Dunedin in 2014 during the day and not St Pattys day. Nice and quiet! Seeing your photos of the roads and road signs brings me back to our West Coast trips...sigh...

I'm not a huge ice cream fan but as it was now warm, I was determined to have one.. And it don't dsappoint !

It's a huge day, people even had decorations on their doors .. Really took us by surprise .

Do like Ellenton, so civilised ! We've been to London on St P's day and not seen anything like this.

Happy St Patty's Day! Looks like a fun night, a bit like our night at the Hogmanay Party in Edinburgh only with Leprechauns. The bridge is pretty spectacular.
