Brilliantly funny report full of great information! Can't wait to read the florida part too.

Your poor son on the subway but you wrote it so hilariously I couldn't help laughing.

Did your kids enjoy the Ride? We're going in October, my kids are 8 and 12 and it sounds like great fun.

Love the food descriptions and photos. I applaud you for doing a report, I don't know how you all manage to keep up with photographing and writing!

Can't wait to hear the next installment " )

I'm struggling to think of something else it would worse to be known for...oh dear... I think you have pipped us all.

Thank you I'm glad you found it entertaining. DS, kind of, now thinks of 'foot stuck in the subway door' as a badge of honour.

We really liked the RIDE. I didn't tell any of them there would be street performances, but they knew that it wasn't just going to be a normal bus tour with information, so they were a bit suspicious. We used our NY Explorer Pass for the tickets. It was a good tour and they did tell us lots of information about NY, more than I thought they would, it lasted about 90 minutes. There were lots of time slots throughout the day to pick from. It was a fun thing to do.

Thursday 27th July 2017 - breakfast at Ellen's Stardust Diner, late lunch at the airport Au Bon Pain, dinner at Perkins I drive

In spite of the lovely meal yesterday at Rosie O'Grady's I was still sulking that we hadn't been able to go to Ellen's Stardust Diner. So, we packed up quickly and even though it wasn't part of the plan for the day we agreed that we would swap things around to fit in Ellen's (basically, I gave myself a good talking to and I decided I didn't have to stick to the itinerary and then I told everyone else what was going to happen).

We took the luggage down to be stored for later. I think that if I'd been a cartoon then there would have been smoke coming out of my ears and my eyeballs would have popped out on storks...we were told the luggage would be $4 per item. I did a perfect Victor Meldrew impression with my 'I don't believe it' resounding off the walls and tried to forget about how annoyed I was at the injustice of the world, we left the luggage and we went to breakfast.

Miraculously there was no queue outside the door and halfway down the block. We went in and it was busy, but we were seated in a booth downstairs within 5 minutes.

I managed to get one half decent photo of the menu!

DD ordered pineapple juice, it was super tasty, DS in the background wouldn't get out the way for the photo as he was too keen to drink his drink

DS ordered a hot chocolate with whipped cream and marshmallows, have I mentioned before he has a bit of a sweet tooth and he loves anything chocolate?

DH and myself ordered coffee

The songs were regular throughout the meal, it felt like there was a song every few minutes. DH was bit concerned when he saw that the singers were often sitting at the end of a table and crooning to people in the restaurant, we had a booth for 6 and he was on the outside so he tried to fill the extra space at the end of the seat. Sadly, depending on your point of view, he didn't have any of the singers come up and sing directly to him. I managed to sing along a lot, of course my family were highly embarrassed and told me to be quiet, which probably made me sing louder.

I took a photo when our waiter sang, he's in the bottom right corner.

There was lots to choose from for breakfast.

DD ordered waffles with blueberries and strawberries $16.25

It was delicious, but she couldn't finish it.

As if there was never any doubt DS managed to locate the breakfast item containing chocolate. I said there was no chance he'd be able to finish it as it would be too sweet, but he went ahead anyway and ordered chocolate chip pancakes $13.75

They were tasty, I ended up having some as my breakfast pudding

DH ordered a breakfast burrito with tater tots $14.95

I had a Brooklyn bagel with tater tots $14.95, it's definitely the most rainbow looking bagel I have ever eaten!

It was actually really nice and I was a kind mother and gave DS some of my tater tots in exchange for the chocolate chip pancakes...completely and utterly selfless!

It was a fun experience and I was really pleased to have been able to eat there.

The final bill was $84.11

We'd spent longer than we planned as it was after 10am when we came out.

We (read I) had originally planned a visit to Chelsea market and a walk with a picnic lunch on the High Line for our last morning. We (read I) scrapped the idea of Chelsea market but we (read I) still wanted to go to the High Line and we needed to walk off our breakfast. So, we headed west and wandered over towards Hell's Kitchen and turned south onto 10th Avenue. Pretty soon DS decided he needed the toilet. The conversation went something like this...

DS 'I need the toilet'
Me 'You'll have to hold it'
DS 'I'm desperate'
Me 'You can't be, we only just left the diner about 15 minutes ago'
DS 'I am'
Me 'Grrrr'
Me 'Errrr, ummm' All of us had a good look around and we did not have high hopes, this area looked much more like where people lived and went about their normal lives and was not a tourist place at all. So, I had a look on the map on my phone.
Me 'We'll head west down this street as there's a patch of green at the end by the river that means there's a park and there should be a toilet'

So we walked briskly, then we did some very speedy speed walking, then we were practically at a jog and we couldn't quite believe it but at the end of 45th Street was the Intrepid and Pier 84. DS went to the toilet by the fountains, we had a look at the Intrepid and agreed that we would have to visit when we came back to NY (plus there's only so much willy nilly itinerary changing I can cope with). So, after our pit stop we carried on south towards the High Line. We probably only walked about half of the old railway before we decided we should start walking back to the hotel to make the journey to the airport.

DH tried once last ditch attempt at the idea of a taxi to the airport, but that was a ridiculous suggestion, the decision had been made.

We collected the luggage and I did find dragging the case through the revolving door was somewhat tricky, but of course my heels were well and truly dug in and I was not conceding any kind of defeat on this front no way Jose, there was no turning back, we were getting to the airport using the metro regardless of any hurdles we had to overcome. However the journey was destined to turn out we (read I) were 100% committed to this path and we (read I) were not turning back.

The entrance to the metro was on the corner of our block so we didn't even have to cross the road, but of course it was stairs. DH and the kids had set off at a cracking pace and were already at the bottom of the stairs before I'd even managed to build up the strength to pick the case up. Then a kind passerby (mugger) asked if I needed any help to which I quickly replied I was fine, before I could even look up and check out the mugger in order that I could provide the police with a good description of him he grabbed the case and was off down the stairs. As I trundled after him I realised he was about 70 with a shirt and tie and the least likely mugger in the world so I decided that it was probably a 50-50 chance of him nicking the bag or perhaps having a coronary after struggling down the stairs with my case. He plonked it down at the bottom made some joke about it feeling like it had rocks in and then was off, I just about managed to mumble off a thank you into the darkness...

We topped up the metro card and DH had the sensible idea to ask the attendant to open up the gate so we could walk through without having to go through the turnstiles. Also, DH decided that he would be able to carry two cases down the stairs, I think this decision was helped along after he saw a gallant stranger (not a mugger it turns out) had helped me by carrying the case down the stairs, what he actually said was something about the weight being balanced out is better than having just one side weighed down (Ok dear!). Either way I was happy I didn't have to do the carrying down stairs, just the dragging through the corridors.

We made it to the platform, we were prepared for the doors this time, we even had a plan. If one of us doesn't make we get on the next train and we keep on going to Jamaica and get off there then we can meet up. But in the end there was no need for the plan, we all made it on the train and and had a relatively pleasant and hassle free journey. We all managed to get off at Jamaica and found our way to the air train. Now, I may have made a slight error here on how much the tickets were for the air train. It was all a bit confusing. I thought I'd put enough money on, but DD went through first and then the card wouldn't work So, we were having to tell her to wait over at the side while topping up the card (it was fairly busy, fairly noisy and fairly worrying that our 10 year old was stranded the other side of the barrier). We went back to the machines loaded up the card with more credit and the next time me and DS made it through but not DH. What is it with these machines? This time I was certain that I had put enough money on the card (because I'd actually read the information correctly second time around oops ), so I asked the attendant for help who told the three of us to wait, DH was still the other side of the barrier, while she took the ticket and went into the office to do some checking. It probably only took about 5 minutes (but it felt like longer) before someone came out and opened up the side gate for him to come through. Thank goodness, we were back on our way.

Finally, we made it to the airport we got off at the right terminal and we did the bag drop and printed out the boarding passes. Security was very busy and it took an age to get through, so in spite of us leaving the hotel 3 hours before the flight was due to leave we only had 30 minutes to get to the gate after clearing security. Probably to normal people this seems like loads of time, but this felt very tight so we hot footed it to the gate!

I still wasn't that hungry but everyone else was so we bought some lunch from Au Bon Pain.

A couple of bottles of water to share, no photo of these.

DD had a tuna salad sandwich $7.99

DS had ham and swiss cheese $7.99

DH had turkey and swiss cheese $7.99

And, this may seem odd, but I didn't really fancy anything as I wasn't really that hungry so I went for a couple of boiled eggs at a bargain price of $1.49 for two. The lady on the till asked if I wanted any mayo or dressing or anything else with them, but actually they were just fine on their own. I didn't even have to de-shell them they were already peeled.

This all came to $34.88 and we scoffed the lot before boarding.

Disappointingly there was no drinks or snacks service on the plane as the captain kept the seatbelt sign on for the entire journey due to turbulence. Now we are not the most seasoned travelers but this did not feel like a bad turbulence flight, I reckon they must have forgotten to load the drinks trolley...

Landing at MCO and straight through as we weren't an international flight. We had our first Uber (ever) for the trip to the hotel and this went remarkably well, in that we made to the Rosen Inn International on I Drive without incident!

We checked in dumped the bags in the room and headed out straight away for some dinner. None of us were in the mood for walking too far so we went to Perkins which is on the corner opposite the massive McDonalds.

It was virtually empty in Perkins, our server was called Dora and she explained she was a granny. I have two menu photos, but weirdly both are the covers and not any of the inside...

DD had lemonade which I think was included in her meal from the kids menu

DS had a coke $2.59

DH and myself both had a bottle of budweiser $3.99 each, we both got another bottle halfway through the meal.

DD ordered kids chicken strips with fries $4.99

It was a huge portion, and yes, you've guessed it, she couldn't finish it!

DS had a cheeseburger $9.79

And, what do you know...he couldn't finish the fries.

DH had chicken and asparagus $9.99

He did finish his meal, and helped me out with half of my jacket potato.

I had grilled salmon with a jacket potato and broccoli $12.79

Dora was attentive and when she came around to check if the meal was ok we asked for a couple more bottles of Bud. When she came back and asked if we had room for dessert DS said yes, but I held firm and said that as he still had a mountain of fries he wouldn't need a pudding. Now, I do understand there is a different tummy for pudding and that technically no one ever needs a pudding but it was late and I knew we'd have to get up early in the morning for our first theme park of the holiday.

The bill came to $59.78

We resisted buying a whole cheesecake and putting it in the fridge for breakfast! And off we went back to the Rosen and to bed. The alarm was set for 6am, who wants a lie in when they're in Orlando? I know I never do...

Tomorrow, Friday 28th July 2017 our first ever trip to Seaworld so big boy rides (none of those baby coasters at WDW oh-oh not sure how DH and myself will cope) lunch in the park, room snacks from Walgreens and dinner at Longhorn's.

A good day. We would have liked to go to the Stardust diner but the queue was really big every day so never got the chance - we went to Mcdonalds across the road every day instead

When we went to Perkins it was pretty empty as well. I hope you went back to get some of their chessecake because it was amazing!
