Monday – 2nd October, 2017 – Saints and Kings

We haven’t visited Disneyland Paris in a while. Our last visit was in 2012. As this year is their 25th Anniversary we thought we would join the celebrations.

It all started on Monday night. Darrin had booked the day off work (as he had for the week) but still had to deal with emails and texts – the joy of running your own company. We also had to take our dog, Blair, to his groomer. She offers dog sitting services in her own home and he loves going there as the place is never empty of dogs. It’s a holiday for him too.

By late afternoon we wended our way into London. We’ll be spending the night at the Premier Inn in York Way so we are five minutes away from the Eurostar terminus:

It’s clean and functional and it has a comfy bed:



However, we are starting this holiday with a treat. The St. Pancras Hotel built into the station is a beautiful building and we have stayed there previously. Sadly, not on this ocassion.



Tonight though, we are going to have a few drinks at the “Booking Office” in the station and then have dinner at The Gilbert Scott (he was the architect of the Gothic splendour.) It’s a Marcus Waring restaurant.

So a few Long Island Iced Teas for me and Caipirinhas for Darrin and it’s time to head to the restaurant.



On the way to the restaurant we pass the amazing staircase. Believe it or not but the whole staircase carpet is woven as ONE piece!



The area, now used as the restaurant ,was originally the tea rooms in Victorian and Edwardian times. It is beautifully grand.



And so to the meal.

We both started with Dorset crab with brown crab rouille, quince and fennel:



For mains I choose Chargrilled Iberico secreto pork, carrots, almond and cumin:



Darrin opts for Cornish monkfish, caramelised cauliflower and fregola ( a type of pasta resembling Bulgar wheat in appearance) :



Our wine was Russian River Valley, California Ramey 2014 (Chardonnay):



Desserts follow.

Me – Warm ginger cake with miso & muscovado ice cream:
I have to say , for me, it was Bonfire night flavours – Parkin with Treacle Toffee. Yum!:



Darrin finishes with Banana caramel soft serve and salted peanut brittle:




We both have coffee – cappuccino for me and double espresso for Darrin.

We retire back to the Premier Inn and head to bed. It's just gone 10p.m. We need to be up at 5:30a.m. tomorrow morning.

Geoff. Well a good start to your Paris trip. You tipped me off as to where you were dining and it's lived up to expectations. Darrin's choices would have been mine as well. The monkfish looks excellent. Looking forward to the further instalments

We love that Premier Inn - it's so handy for us as we go in/out of Kings Cross from the N.E. and they've done the refurb really well.
