It's Time to Sparkle - DLP's 25th - Day 3

Wednesday 4th October, 2017 – Rats, Rock and Racers

We are doing Walt Disney Studios today so alarm was set for 6:00a.m. Darrin needs time to get going in the mornings.
We make tea and coffee respectively and then drag ourselves to the bathroom. I decide to have a bath. The water is lovely and hot but the size of the bath tub is ridiculous. I’m 6’ 3’’ so I end up with my knees under my chin. Trying to lie down and relax is nigh on impossible. I manage to bathe somehow. I’ve brought a selection of T shirts with me so today it’s going to be my Remy one. It’s not an official Disney T shirt. Looks like this:

The Empire State Lounge opens at 7.

I said I’d mention the breakfast choices – cereals, fruit, yoghurt, porridge, cheese, ham, bacon, sausage, scrambled egg, baked beans (a nod to the Brits), boil your own eggs, waffles, crepes, toast, croissants, pain au chocolat, rye bread, crackers…………….. an excellent selection and included in the Club room rate.

We sit and watch the dawn – looks like being a good day. (The weather throughout our stay was incredible except for 3 hours of showers on the Thursday. Most days, we caught the sun. Don’t expect to get a tan in October!)

I mentioned that both parks now have “Extra Magic Time” each morning from 8:30 to 9:30a.m. The parks officially open to non guests at 10:00. As we have to go through security to enter Disney Village we set off early. Our goal is Walt Disney Studios and when we arrive there are already a hundred or so hotel guests waiting for entry.

They have the entrance barrier-ed across and around 8:15 they allow you through but insist on seeing the Easy Pass for the number entering. You then line up at the turnstiles. Around 8:25 the CMs appear and almost on the dot you are allowed into the park. It’s straight through Studio 1, to the right, past Crush’s Coaster and into the Paris area where the Ratatouille ride is.

How many spot the Hidden Remy in the wrought ironwork?

This is very sympathetically done and is very reminiscent of the France area at Epcot in Florida. We’ll look at it in detail later. So it’s straight in and within five minutes we are loading onto a rat vehicle. The actual name of the attraction is: Ratatouille - L'Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy (Remy’s totally crazy adventure)
The ride system is trackless – all done with computers – like the Pooh ride at Tokyo Disneyland. When not in use the vehicles park themselves by charging units. All very clever. Time to put on the 3D glasses.

We are on the rooftops of Paris and the rats dance around each other.

It’s all done using Imax screens so you feel about the size of a rat. Gousteau appears and tells Remy he has guests.

Remy is musing on what dishes should be served when we suddenly tip through a fan light and into the restaurant kitchen. The chase begins and all the characters are in it – Linguini, Skinner, Collette and even Anton Ego.

We whizz through the larder where giant sausages and hams hang down and we dance around huge cans of olive oil whilst watching Emile raid the fridge.

I won’t spoil the rest of the adventure but you do finish up at Remy’s Bistrot.

Try the real thing. for your lunch. We''ll be doing that tomorrow.

We make our way over to Rock n’ Roller – this coaster goes from 0 to 57 m.p.h. in 2.8 seconds. This version of it is the fastest coaster in France!

I get a photo with Lightning McQueen and the Piston Cup:

Darrin spots a film unit van and its registration:

WED – Walter Elias Disney – WED Enterprises were the forerunner of Imagineering.

Tower of Terror opens at 9:30 so we were straight in there. The have such great CMs on this ride. One in particular is camp and droll and raises loads of laughs.

As we are coming off, the general public are arriving into the park so it’s obvious they start admitting them before 10a.m.

Last ride here today is the RC racer – boy this is a slow loader.

Time for a coffee.
It’s time for the first show of the day of “Mickey and the Magician”.
I found this a neat little show which introduces a lot of famous characters. Darrin wasn’t too impressed: “Panto style with cheap magic tricks”.

We switch parks and decide to have lunch at “Fuente del Oro” opposite Big Thunder Mountain. Tasted better than it looks. Great tortillas and a Mariachi band playing in the courtyard.

Heading for the castle stage we walk in on the “Starlight Princess Waltz”. The audience is full of little girls – boys don’t seem so keen.

When it ends there is a 15 minute break and then the “Happy Anniversary Disneyland Paris” starts. This is very clever as they incorporate some of the jet fountains in the castle moat in the background which are normally used for the night time Illuminations show.

We go for another ride on Big Thunder Mountain RR with our open ended Fastpass and are on it within ten minutes. It’s now time for the Villains Tricycle parade. (Wonder why Pooh is in it?)
This is done several times a day and whilst it’s great to see the characters the tricycle thing seems rather twee.

They had used these contraptions at the big 25th celebration back in April. I guess that having spent the money on them, they had to use them for something. I particularly thought the Wicked Witch was good for a face character.

Time to do some shopping so we wend our way through the ones on Main Street:

I pick up this wonderful statuette of Lady Tremaine:

On our way back through Disney Village I call in at the Lego shop. This creation is stunning:

This is for my mate Jezza:

When we get back to our room this is waiting for us - a half bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates:

We have foot soaks, cups of tea and a short rest. Then we change into smarter clothes as we are dining tonight.

We are heading back to Disneyland Parc for the parade. Americans must find the timing for this rather late in the day given that their famous 3 o’clock parade is now at 2 o’clock. Here at Paris it’s 5:30p.m. currently. Rumours say it’s because of the Spanish who like to take an afternoon siesta after leisurely lunches but who knows?
Its official title is Disney Stars on Parade and it starts with several characters doing a dance.

Next is the Mickey and Minnie float. Donald and Daisy tag behind.

The Toy Story float follows with Buzz Lightyear in a space rocket:

A Lion King float follows but why does Simba look like he has just come out of a tumble drier? And Mowgli is 35 if he’s a day.

An amazing Neverland float is next with Captain Hook sat on a ship’s wheel atop of Skull Rock.

Smee sits below:

They are followed by an amazing swinging galleon which carries Peter pan and some of the Lost Boys.

A stunning Crush coaster follows with Dory swimming around at the back.

Then its Prince Philip fighting the thorns followed by the dragon.
When it first arrived at DLP it has a lame red flame but I can assure you it is firing fire now like its Florida counterpart.

Flynn Ryder and Rapunzel, Belle and her prince are in horse carriages and they are followed by Tiana and Naveen, Ariel and Prince Eric and Aurora and the 3 fairies.

Cinderella and Prince Charming are in another carriage.

Then comes the piece de resistance. The Frozen float has the reindeer Sven done rocking horse style and being ridden by Olaf. At the rear are Anna and Elsa on a balcony with “snow” falling from the rear of the float.

We exit the park into the Disneyland Hotel and head to the Fantasia bar. Long Island iced teas!

There is a pianist just outside but he seems to be playing the most doom laden music. It is quite depressing. At one point he gives us Sting’s “Russians”. Obviously he’d had a bad day.

Our dinner reservation is at the California Grill – literally a one minute walk across from the bar.

They bring bread and a pot of butter from D’Isigny. The area is not far from Bayeux. It is believed that this is where the name Disney originates from.

We are both given an Amuse Bouche - a lobster puree with a dill and lemon cream:

Darrin begins with Tiger salad - lobster tempura, spicy beef, Asian greens with a coconut / lime vinaigrette:

I go with a Chardonnay duck foie gras with seasonal fruit chutney and a house-made brioche:

Darrin’s main is Filet of John Dory, Noilly Prat vermouth-laced leek fondue:

Mine is roasted veal loin, sake flavoured rice, Shimeji mushrooms and vegetables:

Neither of us want dessert so coffees follow. The chocolate sprinkles read "25":

We stroll back to the New York hotel and along the way get this fantastic photo of the Aerophile balloon:

It’s only when getting in bed that I spot the Hidden Mickeys on the duvet cover:

Bonsoir!

I'm loving your Remy t-shirt. The ratatouille ride looks great, I think it will be an excellent addition to France in Epcot aswell.
The club lounge food looks really, really good so much choice.
The number plate on the bus ,with WED and Walts birthday was a great spot by Darrin.
I'm loving reading along !

Geoff. A busy and fun filled day. My the sky looked nice, as you say not expected in October. I love a Mariachi band and always stop in Epcot to listen to them. Didn't know they had one at DLP.
The Ratatouille ride sounds really good, well worth waiting for that I must say.
Now to the food. The Amuse Bouche is a lovely start to a dining experience, very refreshing.
You know me well so as usual Darrins choice would have been mine as well. The fish looks excellent.
Nice little touch with the butter.

Love the Ratatouille ride, my favourite thing in the Studios. And we enjoyed Mickey and the Magician too.

Ah, Cali Grill. Looks a great meal as always there.

Wish those t-shirts were for sale!
