New England Sep 17! Day 12 - Exploring Lenox & Great Barrington in The Berkshires

Index

Previous Day

Tuesday 12th September 2017

We decided to get breakfast first today before checking out, so around 09:00 we drove to Up for Breakfast in the town centre.

It was quiet when we arrived but got much busier as we were leaving. I just had plain pancakes and Mark had a cooked breakfast with a side of pancakes. We both got a hazelnut coffee too, which was lovely. Total cost was $31.00 plus tip, which I thought was a little pricey but it was tasty and the service was very good again.

We got some more dollars out before heading back to the hotel to check-out.

We drove for over an hour before stopping at The Berkshire Mall. They had lots of the usual mall shops here but we just wanted to go to Target, to stock up on drinks and snacks again. I also picked up a couple of CoverGirl LashBlast mascaras, which I usually do as they’re my favourite. There was a Starbuck’s inside, so we got a coffee each too before leaving.

From here we continued back to Massachusetts but this time to The Berkshires, which is an area on the west side of the state. We first stopped in the small town of Lenox, for a wander. There was a lovely little coffee shop here, so we wished we hadn’t just had a Starbuck’s. It was actually really warm today, so we didn’t want to walk around for too long.

We drove through Stockbridge, which looked like another nice town with more shops/restaurants than Lenox but we continued to Great Barrington, where we were spending the night. We arrived at the Days Inn Great Barrington around 13:30 but they allowed us to check-in early. This was probably my least favourite hotel, it was fine for the night but it didn’t look too great from the outside. It was in a great location though, everything was in walking distance.

After checking in, we had a walk along Main Street. We both really liked Great Barrington, it’s not a big town but there were lots of shops and restaurants.

For lunch, we grabbed a sandwich from Subway each before heading to So Co Creamery for an ice cream. We both got maple pecan ice cream, which was so good but Mark got his with a shot of espresso on top. Total cost was $14.00.

We decided to go to the cinema after this, to see Home Again, which I really enjoyed. The cinema was really small, it only had 4 screens but it was so cheap. It was only $20.00 for 2 tickets and a medium drink and popcorn.

It had been quite a busy holiday so far, so it was nice to just sit down and relax for a while watching a good film. I feel like our time in Vermont and The Berkshires was quite relaxed but it was nice to have a few days getting some energy back before heading to Cape Cod.

We didn’t feel like a big dinner tonight, as we’d had quite a late lunch and popcorn too, so we went back to the hotel for a bit. We watched some more Zoo before driving to the McDonald’s down the road for a quick, easy dinner. It was getting refurbished so we got it to takeaway and ate it back in the hotel.

Next: Day 13 - Mystic & Heading to Newport

The ice cream with expresso looks amazing!

It is good to have an easier day from time to time - we can all be guilty of trying to pack too much in!

The town looks lovely - though I can see what you mean about the hotel!

Fun day and nice to just chill a bit . More lovely looking places along the way. ( maybe not the hotel... But sounded pretty convenient!)

We are definitely guilty of that but we love it anyway

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed with this hotel but 1 not so great hotel out of 8 wasn't too bad!
