New England Sep 17! Day 17 - Wrentham Village Outlet & Going Home

Index

Previous Day

Sunday 17th September 2017

We’ve reached the last day; today we were heading home

We made sure we were packed and ready to leave by 08:00. I’d read traffic getting off the cape could be quite bad on a Sunday, so I wanted to leave early. We first drove to Hyannis, which took around 30 mins, for our last breakfast at IHOP. Always the best way to end a US holiday.

Mark had the pancake combo with New York cheesecake pancakes and I had chocolate chip pancakes with banana. We both had an iced coffee. I’ve never had banana with my pancakes here before but it was really good. Total cost $26.27 plus tip.

We left IHOP at 09:30 and made our way to the Wrentham Village Premium Outlets. This isn’t quite on the way to the airport but our flight wasn’t until 19:24, so we had plenty of time. Thankfully we didn’t hit any traffic either and arrived just over an hour later.

This outlet was a lot like the ones we’d been to in Florida and Vegas, rather than the other ones we’d visited so far this trip. I headed to Kate Spade and they were still doing a great discount; this time 60% off then an extra 20%. I was tempted to get another bag but restrained myself. Instead I got a new make-up bag for $24.71 and a phone case for $20.00.

I love the make-up bag but wouldn’t recommend the phone case. It scratches so easily, so not worth the money. Mark picked some bits up from Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger. Even though we still had plenty of time, I was worried about missing our flight, so we started making our way towards the airport at 12:00.

Around 30 mins later, we stopped at South Shore Plaza in Braintree. I’d really wanted some pyjamas from Victoria Secret but they didn’t have them at the mall in Portland, so I thought I’d try this one. Unfortunately, they didn’t have them at this one either, which was a shame. At this point we were pretty much shopped out so didn’t go anywhere else. This mall was great though, really big and had all the shops I like.

Before leaving we managed to fit in another trip to The Cheesecake Factory. It was very busy as always but we got a table easily. Mark had the mushroom burger, which he loves but I decided to try something new. I got the orange chicken, which was only a lunch size portion and I still couldn’t finish it. This was nice but still not as good as Panda Express. Total cost was $37.56 plus tip.

We didn’t have any room for dessert and couldn’t take it with us, so we had to miss out. From here we made our way to the airport. There was a bit of traffic on the way but it still only took us about 25 mins.

We dropped off the car at the car rental centre, which was a bit difficult to find but we made it. We took a look at the mileage on the car and noticed we'd done 1,744 miles this trip!

We'd already checked in online but the queue for bag drop was huge, so I'm glad we were early. The wait for security was long too; I wasn't a huge fan of this part of the airport. The queues are all squashed together and disorganised.

Once we'd made it through, we got one final coffee from Dunkin' Donuts and a pretzel from Auntie Anne's.

Soon enough it was time to board.

After the delay on the way here, we were grateful to leave on time. I stopped taking notes at this point, so I can't remember what food we had this time. I watched Clueless and read the magazine I'd picked up in the airport before falling asleep for an hour or so.

We landed at 07:00 Monday morning, into Heathrow. We got our luggage nice and easy and made our way home. I spent the rest of the day unpacking, doing washing and trying to stay awake. Going back to work the next day was definitely a struggle

Overall Thoughts

So that's the end of another amazing trip to the US Thank you to everybody who has been reading along.

We had the best time on this trip and can't believe how varied the trip was, we definitely saw a bit of everything. I would love to do the trip all over again, probably in October to see the Autumn colours. I think this would be a great holiday to take children on, so definitely back on the list for the future!

Future Plans

Next year we are getting married so we have a mini-moon and a honeymoon to plan! Our wedding is in August, so a few days after we'd like to do our mini-moon somewhere in Europe. Venice or Prague are on the list at the minute.

For our honeymoon we are currently planning to go to Hawaii in October, which I'm so excited about. It's somewhere I've wanted to go for a really long time. We'd looking at visiting Oahu and Kauai but not sure if we will stop anywhere else on the way/way back. Flights aren't realised yet so we don't have anything booked, but fingers crossed it all works out for us

Brilliant trip, thanks for sharing, we are currently thinking about our holiday next year. The thoughts are another West Coast trip or New York, Boston, White Mountains, Cape Cod. Your report has given me a lot to think about. We loved the West Coast but it might be exciting to try something new.

Congratulations on your wedding and good luck for the future.

Oh and don’t forget the Hawaii trip report 😉 another one on my bucket list.

We certainly did cover a lot but we never felt rushed, which is good. I'm so glad you've got some ideas, hope you manage to plan a trip, it's worth it!

We did a west coast trip in 2015 and would love to go back but we're happy we went somewhere new. You can't go wrong with either trip though, what a lovely choice to have to make

Thank you very much!

I won't forget the report, it's definitely something I'll want to have a record of
