I guess we're grown ups now? Nah, maybe next week! Oct 2016 Part 2 - Day 2 Charley loves Walmart

Index

Day 2 - 13.10.16

We remembered to but the sign on the door this morning so managed a lie in till 9:30. Once up, we got ready and tidied up the room a bit before going out to the i-trolley stop. This morning we were doing Hash House take 2, since we loved it so much in Vegas.

On the way out I checked at reception to see if they had any packages for me. I’d ordered a few things from Etsy and Hot Topic and used Mocking Jay delivery service to get them delivered to the hotel but there was nothing for me so I made a mental note to message Lisa later and check up on that.

We jumped off the trolley at stop 3 and wandered up the road to Hash House a go go. It was very quiet in there so we were seated right away at 11:15.

We ordered coffee and OJ and perused the menu. Ross decided on the Tractor Drivers Combo which was eggs, sausage and the biggest snickers flapjack (huge scotch pancake) you’ve ever seen! I opted for the basic breakfast, aka sausage, eggs, potatoes and a biscuit (scone).
As expected the food was delish and the service was great. The total came to $39 including tip. Now considering we paid $65 in Vegas, albeit for different dishes but it still shows how expensive it is, eating on the strip in Vegas!

Instead of hopping back on the trolley we decided to walk down the road to the big golf store Ross had spotted on the way to Hash House. It was a big old walk in the blazing heat! We saw lots of men with the advertising boards and sandwich boards and just thought that it must be torture!

Ross was in his element in the golf shop and I swear we were in there for about a week and a half. Lots of interesting gear but we got most distracted by the novelty driver covers. He came away with a fluffy doggo one, which, to this day, has never been used. It cost him $30.

We got the trolley back to the hotel from the stop opposite Red Lobster and vowed to go there tomorrow, I was already looking forward to it!
Back at the hotel I messaged Lisa from Mockingjay and she informed me that she was planning on delivering later in the week. This was no good as there was items in there I needed for Universal! I told her my predicament and she agreed to deliver tomorrow which I was forever grateful for. Serves me right for not agreeing on a date in the first place!

After all that was sorted I decided it was time for Ross to experience Walmart! We Uber’ed it and arrived at about 1:30pm.
We got a great haul! Not much in the way of food though! Just some Lucky Charms to take home, some Nerds and Red Velvet cupcakes for room snacks and magic milkshake straws for the kiddos. I managed to find a Sensationail kit (gel nail varnish kit with LED lamp etc) for $25! I had one at home but I’d lost the cable for the lamp so I didn’t mind picking up another one and $25 was an insane price! They cost about £75 in Boots! I got a separate colour and a matte top coat for $5 each, which again, is crazy cheap. I also got myself some teeth whitening strips, some mascara, some uber thick fluffy socks (me and my sister call them ‘toasties’). Ross treated himself to a fancy X Box One Elite controller for $125

We did get a Star Wars jigsaw but once I opened the box at home I realised it was impossible, shut the box and have never looked at it since! I’m a seasoned ‘jigsaw-er’ (new word of the day!) but that one was a pee take!
Then we did some shopping for the kids! Bought them some crimbo presents, for a lot less than WDW merch alternatives would have cost! We got Ariana an Ariel dress and tiara which I think cost less than $30 and a Mulan doll for $8.
Oliver got a Darth Vader backpack and baseball cap, a storm trooper mask and a Sally and Lightening Cars set. Not sure on prices of those. But cost of the trolley altogether was $200, not including the controller as we paid for that at the electronics counter.

Another Uber was ordered back to the hotel and we chilled out for a bit. Once we were recharged we went for a wander up to the Orlando Eye area to have a look round the Sealife Centre at 4:00pm. We paid $50 to get in which it quite steep and I’m certain most people would find it to be a bit of a rip off. We are huge fish lovers but not sure it’s worth a second visit on future trips for that price. Maybe with discount vouchers.

We filled in about an hour and a half looking at all of the fish, tortoises and various other creatures then had and we did have a good time. I was more than happy snapping away anyways.
In the gift shop I treated myself to a magnet since I hadn’t bought one in about 48 hours!

Soon our tummies were rumbling and it was time for Ross’ favourite meal of the holiday, Charley’s. We’d heard a lot about the place from Ross’ favourite video game streamer who lives in Tampa and regularly visits his local Charley’s and raves about it so Ross was very excited when I told him there was one on I-Drive! What this guy failed to mention was the fact that Charley’s was upmarket and expensive! So me and Ross walk in dressed in shorts and tshirts and immediately feel out of place when we see the waiters and staff wearing waistcoats and bowties!

We approached the desk and the snotty cow behind it asks if we have a reservation. Erm no, soz love. ‘Well I’ll have to check if we can squeeze you in’ oh lordy get over yourself, it’s only 5:30 and there’s only one other couple in here! Thankfully another member of staff heard her and said she’d seat us and swiftly lead us away from Snooty McSnootface and to a cosy little booth in a separate dining room, which was empty. Squeeze us in indeed, beyatch.

We ordered drinks. Ross went for his usual bud light and it says here that I ordered a mocktail... ? Not quite sure that’s true but never mind. Then the waiter came with his tray of meats and gave us a little presentation on all the steaks and things on offer. Ross was drooling all over the table but unfortunately we’d have to remortgage the house if he wanted a sirloin so he ordered the fish mixed grill which was prawns and scampi I believe and I chose the salmon. We also got lobster mac and cheese side to share and we received a complementary caesar salad and warm bread.

Oh. My. Days. The salad! We are not salad people but it was to die for and we scoffed the lot! The portion of mac and cheese, you could have used it as a door stop it was massive! And so so so so yummy! I could have quite happily ordered it as a main and munched the lot! Our mains were just exquisite, I can’t even... nope, no words! My salmon was flakey, mely in the mouth goodness and Ross’ mixed grill was so flavourful. Mmmmmm what I wouldn’t give to be back there right now! Note to self: Don’t write a trip report at Charley’s when you’re hungry!

We were so stuffed full of lobster mac and cheese we couldn’t fit pudding in. So we paid the $120 including tip and left the lovely dining room which now had 4 tables full. Bloody squeeze us in. Silly wench. I’m not bitter, honest.

On the way back to the hotel Ross decided we couldn’t settle on a draw after yesterday’s crazy golf game so he wanted a rematch. I was fine with that so we paid the $24 and played the Captain’s course. It was Ross’ game this time around. He only won by one point though! On one of the last holes we had to gently chase away a lizard as he was right in the middle of the green and we really didn’t want him to get run over by a golf ball!

Save yourself little dude!

I let Ross gloat for five minutes while I was in the stocks then we went back to the hotel.

We decided to go over to the Ice Bar tonight. I’d got us a groupon last time we were here but we didn’t get a chance so we definitely wanted to go this time. I had a look on their website and booked online so managed to get us in for $10 each instead of the usual $20 each. I put some jeans and my new toy story jumper on, Ross lives in shorts even in January so he stayed as he was.
We got to the bar at 8:45, showed the girl on the desk our reservation details and she took us over to the entrance of the Ice Bar to get coats and gloves then we headed in. Jeeeeeez it was cold in there! Now I know that sounds ridiculous cause obviously it’s an ice bar but I just thought it would be a bit chilly, it was insanely cold! It was amazing though. The bar and the chairs were all made out of ice and there was a big polar bear ice sculpture in the middle of the room. We ordered some (ridiculously small for the $10 each price tag) drinks. Can’t remember what was in them, just that they were bright blue and that Ross was miffed they didn’t serve beer!
The drinks did come in glasses made of ice though which was really cool! The drinks were really strong and Ross wasn’t a huge fan if his but we’d paid for them so he was drinking it! We had a complementary photo taken then we sat down on the huge ice armchair amongst some cute cuddly toys.

We froze our butts off, drank our drinks and took some selfies, having loads of fun! Ross got another drink, this time I wrote down what it was, go me! Rootbeer, vodka and vanilla syrup. I’ve also written that he got a vodka and coke so maybe he got three drinks, sounds about right! All drinks after the first ones were half price.

We stayed for an hour, chatting and people watching. There were groups of girls coming in dressed in little dresses and sandals . Obviously they had the coats and gloves on but bare legs and almost bare feet bar a few straps, they must have been absolutely Baltic!
When I couldn’t take the cold anymore we handed to coats back and went out into the Fire Bar so Ross could have a beer and be a man again.

Once he’d finished his beer we wandered back over to the hotel, watched a few episodes of AHS Hotel and went to sleep.

Wing Count: 57 still, no wings today!
