Fab update today, 3 restaurants I've not eaten at which is great to read about. I think the charcuterie looks amazing. I'm glad your server obliged with the extra bread. Nik must really love his lobster bisque to have it twice in one day. I suspect he was really thinking of us so that he could tell all of us where they serve the best bisque! A shame that you had a bit of a wait and then your narcoosees server was not as attentive as he could have been. I totally agree with Helen the pudding looks yummy. Oh and I love the photo of you with your mocktail.

We’ve had the Lobster Bisque at both Narcoossee’s and The Yachtsman in place of dessert. Nice as it was I don’t think I’d have it twice in one day 😂.

Loving all of your pictures and menus too, not sure we would have time for everything else if we were attempting the maxing out of DDP+
Really looking forward to reading along
I can imagine, it’s taken me six months just to write about food, never mind anything else haha. I have a feeling you will all love Chef de France! Thanks again for reading.

Anyway I'm pleased I started it I thought it might be a good idea just before I go to sleep so I can't be tempted to raid the kitchen cupboards 😊 I'm impressed at how many meals you have tried so far, no wonder there aren't many snacks-the ice cream sundae did sound amazing though. I'm a bit disappointed for you on the salmon being a bit hit & miss and the listerine tuna, yack! I do think you need to give fresh tuna another try. I'm having a bit giggle at April's comment on you buying McDonalds for breakfast, I wouldn't be thinking of spending any extra money if I was on the dining plan. Then I got to the EMM and tour and did think you were slightly crazy as food was in with them...that's just my wanting to beat the dining plan logic! Actually I think it's great that you can relax and choose what you fancy instead of having to always go with the most expensive option-I do hope you did beat it in the end, can't wait to find out!
I love that you started your trip with a KFC my eldest has just discovered that it's her favourite fast food, she is dying to try a KFC in Florida to see if it tastes even better. I doubt we'll even get the chance as we didn't manage to tick it off her list in August and it's not looking good to happen this year. She does love the chicken in Tomorrowland Terrace so fingers crossed it will open again when we go this year. I'm going to make sure we try the soup in BOG. We are only doing qsdp so I don't have the worry of deciding which restaurant makes the ADR list but it's all stored there for future visits. We are booked for breakfast at Tusker House so we can get ROL and breakfast at Ohana so the girls can see Stitch but I'm really torn whether to keep them both as neither of them particularly like breakfast foods and it would save me a fortune. I'd much rather spend the money on other nicer TS meals. You have definitely made me want to try Trails End and The Boathouse among others but that will have to wait until the girls eat food other than chicken tenders and I'm on the ddp. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your dining extravaganza.
I am flattered that you couldn’t wait to read I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news but our KFC is better than the US And I’m not just being biased, theirs is very greasy! From personal experience, I’d ditch ‘Ohana breakfast, the food is nothing special, and now that Stitch no longer greets table side (you have a photo taken with him outside the restaurant prior to your meal), the interaction is pretty lacking. You can still meet Stitch in Tomorrowland. Definitely stick with Tusker House though, the breakfast is fabulous, you’ll want to go back year on year, and the RoL tickets are a nice bonus. I’m sure the girls would love Trail’s End, it’s a real crowd pleaser, cancel ‘Ohana and have an adventure to Fort Wilderness instead Thank you for reading!

Nik should also stick with what he likes with his penchant for lobster bisque, that way we get some proper research and we all know where to have it... and also where not
The ambience in Chef de France was one of the best we’ve experienced, I think it helps it’s such a bright and airy restaurant, so many of Disney’s restaurant feel like you’re in a cave. I am hoping that it was just bad luck that my salmon was overcooked, because if we were to go back I’d absolutely order the same dish again. Thank you for reading!

Really loving your report. And so impressed that Nik had two lobster bisques in one day! That's my idea of heaven!
I hadn’t clocked that the mash is referred to as ‘rustic’ before, great spot! The cheesecake is unbelievably good, I’m never sure whether things will live up to the hype but this definitely does! Thanks again for reading!

Your starter at Chef de France is absolutely my idea of heaven! Looks delicious.
Another amazing day of food.
If I hadn’t read on The Dibb to be wary of upselling before we left we’d have very likely fallen for it, I had to warn Nik he couldn’t have a latte haha. The charcuterie was delicious, every time I look at the picture I wish I was back there now. Thank you for reading!

I think I am a charcuterie convert now, I’d only ever eaten one at California Grill before (that was delicious, and you’ll be able to sample everything from it at the Brunch, so jealous!), but I think it will be my default choice now. Thank you for reading Abby.

Thanks for the tip Lisa, I didn’t realise you could switch our your dessert for soup. I won’t tell Nik as then he’ll have lobster bisque to start, and to finish haha. Thank you for reading!

We really enjoyed the breakfast, a lot less manic than your usual character meal, and the menu options are unique to the restaurant. Thank you for reading!

My, what a lot of food again today. I really do applaud you as I know that I wouldn't be able to eat this much. I also know that by day 5 there's no way I'd be up and ready for a 7.30am adr - I like my sleep too much 😴

We've not been to any signature restaurants yet (will wait until we go without children), but that steak sounds lovely! I think you're right about the potato as it's described as 'rustic'. Maybe a smashed potato would have been better rather than one that seems like lumpy mash, but I'm no chef, so what do I know

It's a shame about the service with your drinks though. I'm sure that in some places the people ordering alcohol get better service as alcohol = bigger tips. Last year when we ate at Yak and Yeti, we weren't particularly impressed with our server, but the way he treated the table next to us was a different story altogether. Guess who was on soft drinks?

Looking forward to seeing what's next

DAY 6
Tuesday 26th September 2017

CINDERELLA’S ROYAL TABLE

We have had breakfast in the Castle once before, it is so pricey that I always thought it was a once and done kind of thing, but with DxDP it seemed mad to turn down the opportunity to eat inside the Castle once more. I had initially planned dinner, but the menu changes frequently and, at the time of travel, it didn’t really appeal to me so a pre-park open breakfast it was!

Since Magic Kingdom began opening for all guests at 8am, early ADRs have become a bit of a mess, to put it nicely! We checked in outside the park, then were directed through the tapstiles to wait just by the entrance tunnel until 7.45 when they allow everyone into the park.
We were given a map showing how we were to get to the restaurant, as day guests cannot leave Main Street. Being British we like to queue, so we joined a line at the path to the Castle, then were barked at to come straight to the front when the magic map was spotted in my hand. It wasn't a very Disney start to the day.

We checked in then lined up for our photo with Cinderella, I’ve never found her to be the chattiest of Princesses and this occasion was no different, she was friendly enough but not memorable. One of the cast members in the waiting area commented on how he had been searching for rose gold ears everywhere, our trip was at the peak of rose gold ear madness so I felt pretty special knowing that even the cast members were lusting after them.

We were taken to our table, which was a two-top by the window with a view of Fantasyland, this was the same table we had had 4 years previously, I couldn’t have asked for a better one.

We were brought our menus and offered orange juice or coffees, but not any other drinks. I had to ask for apple juice and a chocolate milk for Nik, the cynical part of me says this was due to the gratuity here being pre-paid and no extra effort required from our server.

Breakfast at CRT is another pre-fix affair, we started with a plate of pastries. These were nice, but nothing to get overly excited about!

Beef Tenderloin and Egg had been on my wishlist since it was added to the menu, and it was the main reason we finally settled on breakfast over dinner – I love boursin! The dish is Potatoes and Cheese Frittata with Broccolini and Boursin Cheese Sauce and Chive Oil. This was as good as it sounds, absolutely delicious, unfortunately the steak, although cooked beautifully (they cook it to your liking) and melt in the mouth, was cold and the eggs only warm, I would absolutely order it again though.

Nik was boring and had the Traditional BreakfastScrambled Eggs, Sausage, Bacon and Potatoes. His potatoes were cold. I have just asked him if he enjoyed his breakfast, I showed him a picture and he said ‘well it looks good, so I must have’.

Breakfast came to an eye-watering £110.77, but you are paying for the experience of eating in the Castle, not for the food. It is a lovely experience, and it is always fun chatting with the Princesses. We usually don’t bother with pictures, and just tell them we came to say hello, which is understood. I would absolutely do this breakfast again, quite a few of the menu choices appealed to me.

***

**SNACK ALERT**

It was hot today! I picked up, what I call, an ‘Olaf Lolly’, this is a Lemonade Strawberry Frozen Bar, I really like them they’re very refreshing.

***

Today, we were supposed to be doing the Festival of Fantasy Dining Package at Tony’s Town Square, but we cancelled in favour of grabbing a quick service lunch; it was so hot that we couldn't see ourselves sticking around for the Parade. Early afternoon, we hopped on the monorail to the Polynesian in search of food.

CAPTAIN COOK’S

I had wanted to eat here for a while, I had set my heart on the Pulled Pork Nachos but I lost my bottle, I don’t particularly like pork, so for now they’ll remain on my bucket list. Instead I opted for Hot Beef and CheddarRoast Beef, Cheddar and Caramelized Onions with Sweet Chilli Mayo on House-made Bread. This was delicious, the sweet chilli mayo paired with beef was something a little different, and some of my favourite flavours combined. The meat was juicy, and there was plenty of it. The bread was soft, and there wasn't too much of it, which can be a common issue with Disney sandwiches. The fries were you standard quick service fries, hot and crispy, nice and reliable.

Nik had something he had been craving all trip All Beef Hot Dog – no description required! Trust me, I tried in vain to entice him with something else We had 2 self-service sodas.

Unfortunately, when you use your DxDP to purchase a QS meal, you only get the main course, and a drink, same as if you were using the QS plan, there is no dessert included. I had a little peak at the desserts, hoping for a yummy looking resort specific cupcake (I'd have used a snack) but nothing caught my eye. You can view the current menu here.

We are used to the manic food courts at the value and moderate resorts so Captain Cook’s was a nice change. It was very quiet, you place your order and are given a pager, then the food is brought to your table after being cooked to order, so it was piping hot when it arrived. There isn’t an abundance of indoor seating but plenty outside.

Lunch came to $29.88. Nik said this was his favourite meal so far. I give up!

I really recommend visiting a resort to check out their quick service options, the monorail resorts in particular are fun to explore. We took the Resort Monorail from MK to the Polynesian, once we were done we followed the path back to the TTC on foot and hopped back into our car.

***

BOMA

We were supposed to having dinner tonight at Maya Grill at our resort, but I had enjoyed my breakfast at Boma so much I really wanted to try dinner. I had wanted to eat here forever, and I don’t really know why I’d put it off so long. I was very, very excited to be heading here.

They were running late and the check-in area, which is shared with the next-door Jiko, was very crowded and uncomfortable. When we were finally seated, we had a lovely server, just as we had at breakfast.

The much-heralded soup and salad selection lived up to the hype. The Chicken-Corn Chowder was my favourite.

Nik’s favourite was the Butternut Squash Soup, it was a little spicy for me.

We were heading to the Star Wars Dessert Party after dinner, which is part of the reason why I switched to a buffet, so we could leave room for dessert. My first plate was Whole Roasted Salmon (overdone again ), whole Durban-style Roasted Chicken (this was very nice), Spice-crusted Beef Sirloin (yummy), fufu (highly recommended by our server but too sweet for me) and some good old mashed potatoes.

Next up Chicken Salad with Chilli Cilantro (this was divine, I had seconds), pitta bread and hummus (loved these) and some coleslaw (great again!).

I won’t comment on Nik’s plate! He did have multiple plates of soup, so we’ll let him off. He enjoyed his dinner and that’s all that matters.

Oh my, the desserts, these capped off a lovely meal. I told Nik I was just going to have a little look at what they had, but as soon as I set eyes on them all my good intentions of leaving room vanished.

The Kenyan Coffee Tarts were divine, I had several of these. The banana bread pudding wasn’t my favourite, (bananas, yuck). The malva pudding, I can’t actually remember, so we’ll say it was just okay. But the zebra dome, oh wow, one of the only Disney foods to live up to the hype. I could eat these all day!

Dinner came to $91.59. Writing this has reminded me how much I enjoyed this meal and I’d love to go back again. Again, it was very busy, and filling your plate can be quite stressful but it is absolutely worth it! EasyWDW has a review with great pictures here. Animal Kingdom Lodge is a beautiful resort, with lots to see, definitely worth a visit. I cannot rave enough about this meal, definitely check it out!

STAR WARS: A GALACTIC SPECTACULAR DESSERT PARTY

So we headed to Hollywood Studios to the end the evening with a dessert party, we had done this in 2016 and the viewing area is worth the money alone, in my opinion you can’t get a decent view for the show unless you steak out your spot plenty of time before it starts and that's not our style! Understandably, we weren’t particularly hungry so we didn’t sample any of the sweet things but they have a fab savoury selection, I had yet more hummus, and some cheese. You can help yourself to chilled sodas and a variety of soft drinks, there is also a bar with themed drinks, which are included in the cost of the party. Last year my favourite thing at the party was the frozen Nutella, which is similar, if not identical, to the nitro chocolate dessert from last year's Food and Wine. All of the desserts are Star Wars themed, which I think is very clever.

I didn’t take any pictures, one of the cast members working the event was chatting to us and I thought it would have been rude to be playing around with my phone.

When you check in for the dessert party, which takes place in Launch Bay, you are given a lanyard, this allows you to come and go from the party area as you please. You are free to roam around Launch Bay, and even meet the characters if you wish, their wait times looked invitingly low at this time of the evening.

Storm Troopers roam around the Party (they are terrifying!), and then an entire troop of them marches you to the fireworks viewing area. It's a fantastic experience for a Star Wars fan. You also get a souvenir popcorn bucket, it is one per person, they were massive tie-fighter ones, families were taking one for each of their party and I hate to think how they got them home.

Josh has a review here. As with all upcharge events this one wasn’t cheap at $79 per person, but worth it for us. We’ve seen the Galactic Spectacular up close twice now, I wouldn’t say it is a must do for us in future, Nik disagrees, we’ll see…

TOTAL SPEND SO FAR $1,304.95

Things may or may not be about to come to a head regarding the early starts

Yes, smashed potato definitely would have been nicer texture wise. I didn’t know you were yet to try a Signature, I suppose now the kids are Disney adults it’s a lot of credits to gamble when they may not enjoy it.

It’s never nice to be treated as a second-class citizen just because you’re drinking a Coke. I almost feel embarrassed when I order one in a Signature, and that really shouldn’t be the case.

Thanks for reading Vickie!

Regardless of where you are eating, the very least I would expect from a breakfast that costs $110 is that it is edible ... cold steak, potatoes and worst of all eggs! ... yuk! Glad to hear lunch and dinner saved the day
