You left that beautiful dress behind? Oh my goodness! Next time make Nik leave some of his clothes behind .
I think it's hilarious that his best meal so far is the plain hotdog and standard fries! At least you know that he would be happy with QS if you don't get the DDP in the future.

Once you stop posting food pics - you really need to give that dress a bit of Dibb time, it looks amazing ( and that is from a bloke reading) From a food perspective I'm also thinking that the 'All Beef' hot dog is rather a great choice as with the mac and cheese with mash- good call!
I'm struggling to deal with the number of meals per day though, how did you both cope? Loving your report Edit to add- just read you did not bring the dress back

I'm really enjoying your report, it's giving me lots of ideas of places I want to try!
Really disappointing that the food was cold in CRT, I know you pay for the experience, but that doesn't mean they should be able to get away with cold food! Cinderella must be a less chatty princess, I found when we met her in the Princess Hall that she was far less interactive than the others. I enjoyed Bon Voyage too, nice food and good fun too. I was lucky that our server was good and was clear with me on what drinks were included |

Don't worry, I've ordered a replacement dress! He is a good sport coming along to all these restaurants when all he really wants is a hot dog haha. Thank you for reading xxx
I don't think I'll ever get over mac and cheese on the same plate! Thank you for reading We have met Cinderella lots of times now and she has never been very forthcoming, Tiana is my favourite Princess to meet, she's always fun. Thank you for reading! Captain Cook's really was yummy, I'm quite pekish now, and I'd love that sandwich. Thank you for sticking with me. Thanks Lisa It is so strange that Cinderella is so blah, because in the film she's really not.

Just realised that not only are we there at the same time but at the same resort! How hilarious if we were in rooms next to each other!

I realised I forgot to mention something about Boma in yesterday’s post; the restaurant has a rotating menu. This means that not all the items you’ll find listed on Disney’s menu will appear daily. The soups and salads for sure are mixed up. The main line items (roast chicken/sirloin/salmon etc), I believe are standard, but the sides I suspect also switch out. I know at Cape May Café, they rotate a number of items on specific nights so you can plan your visit around your favourite things, but I’m not sure if this is the case with Boma, who possibly rely more on seasonal ingredients. It’s something to bear in mind but I wouldn’t get too concerned about it, as there is such a wide variety on offer I am certain you’ll find something you’ll like.
I also want to take the time to thank everyone for reading, especially those who have taken the time to leave a comment. You are all wonderful. *** DAY 7 Wednesday 27th September 2017 GARDEN GRILL Today we had a stressful start to the day, we had our annual holiday spat (we all have one right!?), this year it was over the number of early starts we (I) had scheduled. On the morning of our Bon Voyage breakfast we were at the International Gateway in plenty of time for rope drop, we had quite a wait to get into the park, it was hot, and there was no shade. Nik wasn't happy, as we could have stayed in the air-conditioned restaurant for longer. So with this in mind, this morning we left the room as late as possible, but then had to walk quickly to the restaurant when we got to Epcot, but Nik doesn't like to be rushed... He moaned about being rushed, I reminded him he had also moaned about having to wait. Eventually, this escalated into me saying something petulant like I'm sorry he hates the holiday so much Then he went in the huff because he doesn't hate Disney I've just asked him if he remembers why he was mad at Garden Grill and he says his shoes were wet They weren't, he only had one pair of trainers with him and it was dry the day before. Anyway, none of that has any relevance to food, but we all love a tale of a holiday strop I was annoyed there’d been a dampener put on breakfast, as we love Chip and Dale and have always had a good experience at Garden Grill. Garden Grill is located in The Land pavilion in Epcot's Future World. It is actually situated the Living with the Land ride, and the restaurant rotates whilst you eat and you move through the various scenes from the attraction. Don't worry if you suffer from motion sickness, you don't feel any movement. It is a character meal featuring Chip & Dale, Pluto and Mickey (dressed in a farmer outfit). The restaurant has two levels of seating, the bottom level has booths facing the ride, these are the best seats! The top level has your standards tables. We were thrilled to be seated on the bottom level. If I’m honest, our 8am ADR here was more about hitting Soarin’ early than the food, but the food is still good! We started with some fresh fruit. This looks lovely, and really was, I always love the colours of the fresh produce in the States. And, Chip’s Sticky Bun Bake. This is nice, reminds me of the cinnamon pull-a-parts from Papa John’s, but way too big for two people. I always feel so wasteful. The highlight of the skillet is the tater tots, these are crispy and delicious! I wish we could buy them here, we got something similar in Iceland but we don't have a deep fat fryer so couldn't recreate them. Breakfast used to include ham, which I was sad to see go as I’m not a fan of those skinny sausages. The sausages were, as expected, greasy and not very tasty. The bacon was a bit limp here. The eggs were hot (a triumph after yesterday!), and as nice as what are probably powdered scrambled eggs can be. The skillet also includes Mickey waffles, with a boat of chocolate hazelnut (Nutella!) sauce, this is one of my favourite parts of the breakfast. The character interaction here is always great, and you usually see the characters multiple times. Garden Grill is a fun restaurant, we love the quirk of eating 'inside' a ride, and Chip & Dale are two of my favourite characters. Unfortunately, the breakfast menu is a little lacking in comparison to other meals, so I don't think it will make the short-list for this year. As for Soarin', last year we ate at Garden Grill and were the first party inline for the ride. This year, we weren't as lucky but we did just walk on. Breakfast came to $64.08. *** We grabbed some drinks at Starbucks, we don't drink coffee, or go to Starbucks at home so we were gambling on our choices. I had a Strawberries and Crème Frappe and Nik had a Vanilla Bean one. I wasn't a big fan of mine, it was like a very watery milk shake, but Nik's was delicious and became our go-to drink for the rest of the trip. I still can’t believe a Venti is a snack credit! I sent my friends that picture and told them we were pretending we were vloggers! ACTIVE EATS We stopped off at one of the Food and Wine booths in Future World to try the Loaded Mac n Cheese - with Nueske’s® Pepper Bacon, Cheddar Cheese, Peppers and Green Onions. We weren’t even particularly hungry but I had to try this, it was as good as it looks! *** CAPTAIN’S GRILLE Captain’s Grille was the Yacht Club’s casual table service restaurant. In summer of 2017, CG was under refurbishment (it has now re-opened as Ale and Compass), whilst the renovation was taking place the restaurant temporarily relocated to the Beach Club. This was (perhaps oddly!) one of my most anticipated meals of the trip, we were eating inside Ariel’s at the Beach Club! Every visit we have walked past the closed iron gates at the now defunct Signature restaurant’s entrance and wondered what was inside, finally we were going to get to see! Ariel’s is now used for private functions, with that in mind I was a little surprised at dated the furnishings looked, although I really liked the colour scheme, and it was bright and airy We weren’t too hungry, so skipped appetisers. Although, if something had jumped out at me I'm sure we would have forced ourselves. The restaurant wasn’t particularly busy but the servers seemed a little over-worked, we had Dayna, who was lovely. She filled us in on her experience of the recent hurricane, the restaurant refurb (which was now running over due to the aforementioned hurricane), and was very knowledgeable regarding the menu. I had the Bacon Cheeseburger Sliders - Signature Blend Beef Patties topped with Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Onion Jam, Lettuce and Tomato. With your choice of Vegetable Orzo Salad or House-Made Chips. One of these was enough for me! Nice and juicy, but missed a mayo based sauce, they skimped a little on the cheese too. The chips weren't great, but I'm not a crisp fan, so perhaps I'm not the best critic - Nik enjoyed them. Another roast beef sandwich for Nik. Shaved Beef Sandwch - Shallot Mayonnaise, Candied Pepper Jam, Beef Jus Reduction, Vermont Cheddar and Watercress. One a Caraway Seed Roll With a Choice of Vegetable Orzo Salad or House-Made Chips. I really liked this, it was a bit more adventurous than your standard beef and cheese sandwich. Unfortunately, Nik didn't like it. The jus was served on the bun, he had expected it on the side, like a French dip, and he felt it made the sandwich a bit wet, almost like eating a stew on a bun. Now, the star of the show here was the desserts, which was not expected at all. I had the Gianduja Chocolate Cake - Hazelnut, Salted Caramel Sauce, and Chocolate Crispies. This was divine, maybe on par with Narcoossee's cheesecake. Remember, I was full but I ate every last bite of this. I don't normally like chocolate cake but this was light and fluffy, the mousse was so creamy. Nik had the Cookies and Cream Brownie - Chocolate Ganache, Whipped Vanilla Panna Cotta, Cookies and Cream Mousse. If you like 'The Grey Stuff' you'll love this, is is what they should be serving in Be Our Guest at dinner, much more elegant than what they currently serve. We didn’t make the best use of our credits here, as we didn’t have appetisers, but we love that the DxDP gave us the option regardless. This meal came to $54.30, which when you compare to the price of Captain Cook’s yesterday is actually a bit of a bargain if you are paying out of pocket. Ale & Compass will give you just as good value at lunch, you can see their menu here. *** We were supposed to be eating an early dinner at the Diamond Horseshoe tonight, but I had a quick service craving for favourite MK QS location. Unlimited sour cream and cheese, what’s not to love!? PECOS BILLS The pick-up area of the restaurant was madness, there was a mix up with our order and we had quite a wait, we were given free Mickey straws as an apology, unexpected, and a nice touch. Fajitas Platters all around! Served with Spicy Barbacoa Beef and Seasoned Chicken with Yellow Rice, Beans, Fajita Vegetables and Flour Tortillas. Beef and chicken for me, and chicken only for Nik - this isn't listed as a menu option but it an option on the till, so don't worry about ordering just chicken or just beef. These are delicious, and massive portions, plenty to share (you can buy extra tortillas for a small upcharge). The beans, believe it or not, taste like beans and aren't as scary as they look. The rice is surprisingly soft and fluffy for a QS meal. The toppings bar is excellent, they have pico de gallo , corn, red onions, grated cheese, and sour cream. As you can see, at the time of our visit they also had unlimited guacamole, but apparently that is no longer available! People complaining about resort parking need to realise there's bigger issues in Disney World right now The menu can be viewed here and our meal came to $36.56. *** TOMORROW LAND TERRACE DESSERT PARTY – PLAZA GARDEN VIEW We are Dessert Party veterans but this was our first time viewing from the Plaza Gardens, at $59 per adult, it is a little cheaper than the Tomorrowland Terrace viewing area. I believe both parties begin at the same time, you check in at the same podium and are given a wrist band showing which version of the party you are attending. Those attending the Terrace party eat their desserts in the same spot they’ll view the fireworks from, the Plaza Garden guests eat in a different area of the restaurant, and are free to move to the viewing area at their own leisure. They offer unlimited drinks, including Jungle Juice, milk (Nik's favourite), iced tea, lemonade and strawberry lemonade. I believe there's also hot drinks. I have been pretty scathing towards the desserts The strawberry tart, was just like a strawberry tart at home, I didn’t like the crust. The Oreo Mickey, was like the grey stuff, I enjoyed this one. The marshmallow tart was very sickly. The chocolate covered strawberries were delicious, not chemical tasting like they often are. The chocolate almond tart tasted like it had been taken out of the oven a little too early, the texture was very doughy. The red velvet cake was nice enough. I didn’t like the macarons, and I regretted picking up one of each! I hadn't tried them before, and I thought they would be crispy (they look like mini meringues), but I wasn't a fan of the textures, they were soft rather than crunchy. We didn't sample everything, there's even more cakes offer than pictured here. There's also an ice cream sundae bar, cookies, fruit and cheeses. We sat with our desserts for quite a while before moving to the viewing area, we were comfortable in our seats and didn’t want to stand/sit in the viewing area for longer than necessary. When we eventually moved we were thrilled with our spot. Just so you can appreciate how good a view of the Castle we had, here’s a picture. We will absolutely be doing this again this year, a far superior view to the ‘traditional’ party, particularly since they introduced first come, first served seating. Everyone in the Gardens was sitting on the grass and spaced out nicely, it was nice to see that Disney hadn’t oversold the event. TOTAL SPEND SO FAR $1,459.89 |
