Keep Calm & Have a Cocktail March 2018:Day 5. New Orleans. Mooching,Montys & Bread Pudding Mountain
Yesterday is HERE
Wed 14 March, Mooching, Monty’s and a bread pudding mountain My notes say two things underlined today The first is that Andy said to make a note on here that he got up to make coffee for me every day so far on the holiday. Duly noted The other is that the “amazing” back massage he had a few days ago had just about crippled him by this point in the trip- it had clearly disturbed muscles he didn’t know existed and he was in agony so a trip to Walgreens or similar was on the cards for some super strength painkillers and heat patches. Anyway, enough about the attention seeking non Dibber Actually he really was in a lot of pain poor thing and a trip to the GP was in order on return from holiday. See I am all heart really. It was another leisurely start to the day but that did mean by the time we had walked for 30 minutes to the Ruby Slipper on Canal Street that it was packed Love the street sights and signs around here Hard Rock and the Coke Truck - Welcome to America ! It was a 90-minute wait for a table so we turned around and went back to Jackson Square. By which time it was almost lunch and most places were also a minimum of 30 minutes wait for a table. A grump fest was definitely on the cards but fortunately Monty’s came to the rescue We perused the breakfast menu But were more taken with the lunch offerings We both chose flatbreads I went for Montys Pet Goat and Andy had Muffaletta They were both really tasty We then walked towards the French Market again, as it advertises Food tasting and live music from 1 on a Wednesday. In my world, from 1 means, starts around 1. In NOLA it seems from 1 means anytime before nightfall as when we arrived, the market looked no different to yesterday. We stopped at the Crepe Cart I had pecan praline crepe along with a frozen daiquiri I cant tell you how much of a mess I got into with that crepe - hot syrup and sugar running out all over the place - over me, the camera, my bag . It was a complete you've been framed syrupy nightmare We had obviously arrived too early but weren’t in the mood for hanging around as there wasn’t really anywhere to sit and it wasn’t the warmest place to be so we took some of the back streets and found ourselves near Pat O Brien’s We had a short wait for a table in the courtyard as by now the sun was out, it was hot and everyone had decamped there. I t was a bit annoying that you “HAD” to be seated by a host - which meant an obligatory tip even though we were two feet from the bar and would rather have ordered ourselves. Not a major deal but one of those things with the ever-present tipping culture even when its not really warranted. Refreshing mint julep was consumed

It was very pleasant sat in the sun, listening to the music and enjoying our last afternoon
It had been very different to our trip in September - we had taken in different sights, eaten at more fab places, taken things at a lovely place and really enjoyed all the music , art and street performers. And still there we things we hadn’t done and we hadn’t repeated anything (other than some resturants) from last time. So it felt really worth the return trip. We were back at the hotel by 3 and packed up the cases ready for travel tomorrow . We briefly debated a trip to the hotel pool but it wasn’t quite warm enough. We set off around 6 for dinner at the Royal House where we managed to get a seat at the bar - again the tables were packed and there was already a small line waiting. Learning from last time, I chose the non salty scallop salad which was delicious with spinach, candied pecans and cranberries. Yum. I had a strawberry vodka lemonade and Andy went for a bottle of red wine The girl opposite me ordered the voodoo juice drink - it looked good. Mental note made there for next time Andy went for the fried shrimp ( posh scampi) and I had the spinach salad with blackened scallops I had deliberately not had an appetiser to leave room for dessert Which was a mountain of bread pudding - so good I could have just face planted in it - but that would have been awkward on the bar seats and I might have fallen off the chair And the bill We took a final stroll along Bourbon Street and had a last drink in the hotel bar. I know how he felt ! The Big Easy it certainly is . We have had a fabulous few days here - but now its shopping time ! Which is right HERE

A lovely last day in New Orleans (with the exception of Andy’s bad back).
All the food and cocktails looks delicious. Glad you avoided the oysters this time though!

What no oysters 🤢
The mint julep looks delicious everytime I see it in one of your trip reports! Your stay in NOLA has sounded so very relaxed! You have certainly managed to make it sound very appealing!

You are all heart! Allowing tha man with a dodgy back to get up and stretch it our first thing while bringing you your morning cuppa in bed.
I do love all the photos of the buildings, they are so pretty and colourful. It really does look like an amazing city. A shame about the faffing around today I'm sure that did wonders for the bad back.

Don't you just hate it when the non dibbers have to have their say Poor Andy though, back pain is no fun at all - hope he has managed to get it sorted now.
Lovely relaxed day - just from reading, this whole NO section of your trip has had such a laid back feel about it. It sounds like such an interesting and quirky place. Bring on the shopping!

Fab day!
Know the 👉🍻er would enjoy the strolling from place to place enjoying the sights, food and drinks as well! We really must get out and about to the rest of the US at some point, but Florida keeps calling us home ... 😊
