Toddler Trials sponsored by Timmies - Canada 2018. Day 1 Shopping & Chill
Toddler Trials sponsored by Timmies - Canada 2018
Day 1 Shopping & Chill I’m Emily, my husband is Gary and this was our first overseas holiday with our 17 month Libby. We visited family near Toronto and spent a few days in Montreal too. Today isn't very exciting I'm afraid, although it does include my favourite past time and a lovely evening in the garden. Libby slept not too badly, she woke up crying once but Gary just went in and gave her a quick cuddle and she went straight back down. She woke us up about 6.30. At home she usually wakes up and plays around in her cot for half an hour or so (while Mummy and Daddy wake up and find some energy to get up), but we didn't want her waking the whole house so whilst we were here we always went in and got her straight away . Today we were off to the local mall. Surprisingly, this wasn't even my idea (honestly)! Gary suggested it and I agreed, as long as we could go to Walmart too . He had no objections so we got ourselves ready. We’d had some lovely weather at home in the weeks leading up to this trip (definite taps off weather to any fellow Scots reading ), so Libby was well used to the sun cream routine. We were ready to go just after 9. We headed to Limeridge mall, about a 10 minute drive. The shops didn't open till 10 so we headed to Timmies for a second breakfast. No idea what the first breakfast was as my notes don't say, but most likely lucky charms for Libby and Gary and coffee for me from Lorraine’s Keurig machine. There was a bit of a queue at Timmies since nothing else was opened yet so we joined it. We immediately got talking to a local man, who seemed a little strange but he just wanted a chat. Libby’s quite funny with adult strangers, she sort of stares them out and seems a bit rude until she decides if she likes you or not. With kids she just runs up and says hiya! This poor man was doing all sorts to coax a smile from her but he had no chance . I ordered a french vanilla (obvs) and chocolate muffin . We got Libby a cheese muffin and Gary got a breakfast biscuit sandwich thing with egg and bacon and an iced capp. Before we’d left that morning, Lorraine and Bree (Gary’s Aunt and cousin) had told us we’d be the only people there before the shops opened except the mall walkers. Apparently, people go to the mall and walk laps before meeting at Timmies for breakfast. I didn’t think it would be such a big thing but sure enough, we saw loads of them! Lots of them had zimmer frames and were just power walking through the mall, round and round. They do it in there because its too hot out in the summer but too cold/snowy in the winter, so the mall makes perfect sense. This is definitely a sport I could get on board with ! After breakfast and mall walker spotting, we headed to the shops! Mostly we bought things for Libby (nothing unusual there). She got some cute slogan tees and also some winter bits in bigger sizes in the sale too. Gary had planned to get her a Blue Jays top and we got one in the sale for like $25 which he was chuffed with. Trying on her top We picked up hand sanitisers in Bath & Body Works and I also got some Yankee samplers in the sale. So wish I could have brought home lots of big jars, they are so cheap! We got some bits in the Disney store and Libby bought talking Jessie with her pocket money. I got a Toy Story tee in Hot Topic reduced in the sale to $16. We headed to the food court for lunch. I got chicken tenders and chips to share with Libby and Gary got poutine. The lady at Harveys gave me some water with ice in a soft drink cup to solve the problem of Libby wanting to drink my coke! No pictures of the food though, sorry! I do get better at that, promise. After lunch, we headed to Walmart. I get so excited going here We filled a trolley with make up, clothes for Gary, various snacks and some garden toys for Libby. We headed home and out to the garden. It was in the 30s again today, lovely and toasty! As she played and ran around, eventually Libby ended up stripped to her nappy in her crocs and straw hat, she looked so funny . Although we call her Libby 99% of the time, she’s actually Elizabeth . In the heat she turns into a right wee sweaty Betty haha. She loved running round with Maggie (the dog), they became such best friends. We had dinner with Lorraine and Stevie and spent the rest of the night chilling. I had a cream soda vodka thing which was lovely. Not the most exciting to read but a lovely chilled day while we acclimatised and let Libby adapt. Thanks for reading! |

It sounds like you all had a lovely relaxed time, adjusting to the time difference can take ages a couple of days but you all seem to be fine! Your shopping haul sounds great and Libby looks fab in her new t shirt.

Good to see you managed some shopping on day one! I like the Toy Story T Shirt. There are some people who mall walk at our local shopping centre - just a few though.
Lovely weather and Libby looks cute in her straw hat! |

A great start to your holiday with shopping and relaxation (as much as you can with a toddler). I'm heading to Ottawa in 4 weeks as "chaperone" to my Mum to visit her friends and she almost cancelled our holiday when she heard they were boycotting "Timmies" as she loves thier iced cappucino's. Luckily the pay/conditions dispute has been resolved and back drinking their coffee but looks like my diet will start after the holidays given the goodies in the cabinet unless I join in the Mall Walks too !
Look forward to reading more but not telling DD/DS that there are Hot Topic's in Canada or I'll get a long shopping list. |

It was a great chilled day while we adjusted, thanks for reading
I've never come across it before! Good to know some people do it in the UK, I can definitely see it in my future retirement plan. Can't go a day without a trip to Timmies Mel! Thanks for commenting It's turned into my favourite lazy day tee haha we love Toy Story in this house! She's never going to be one of those perfectly immaculate children lol, naked apart from a nappy and straw hat is much more her style xx Haha thank goodness for that! No trip to Canada is complete without Timmies. Ottawa sounds great, enjoy. We spent a few days in Montreal later in the trip and it was absolutely beautiful. It's opened our eyes to exploring the rest of Canada |

What a lovely chilled first day, the perfect way to ease you in and to also recover from the long travel day before!
Some great buys there, absolutely love the Space Ranger t-shirt! Also where did you get that amazing placemat/tray from that Libby is using? We are doing baby led weaning so tend to make a huge mess when out and about in restaurants that don't have highchairs with a tray... one of these could be a game changer! |
