Spotted that I missed your earlier comment while writing an update. Sorry for that, responded now and you certainly have been joining in Trails End food was good, one of the stronger breakfast buffets I've had at Disney. Had a little look around and like the vibe albeit I was surprised that the cabins are really close to standing water from the daily rains on the edge of that natural swamp environment. Adds to authenticity I'm sure but with my families loathing of creepy crawlies we'd be better suited to the Wilderness Lodge (that I still want to go see!). Plenty of free time in the day today so we might nose around
Right we're on it, yesterday lunchtime we found our favourite on property starter so far but I'll still keep looking! I suppose Nomads are used to going days between drinks as they wander the arid lands so the experience is authentic top to bottom Tiffins was good but don't like the menu as much as Jiko, they prepare it all very well but some of the dishes aren't that appealing and it's odd that they then take off an obvious crowd-pleaser like lobster popcorn soup. We're at Hoop de Doo tonight so I'm keeping an eye out to make sure we don't get the same server because the first round would be of mutual death stares I did exactly the same last night although the family insisted on helping. Did you manage to try any of the candied pecans, those were we managed to take an extra cup of them away and were fighting over them last night. Didn't know you had a trippie I rarely go in the non food Trip Reports forum but will head over there to check it out Commenting about buffet choice is rude at the best of times but to the solo diner in between two large families it's not on (and people did look over to check out no mates ). Luckily it didn't affect me but it could really ruin someone's day Too much food, no - never Thanks for reading and hope you enjoy the rest I dread to think what writing it has done for me Might have to upgrade to the full size SUV to drive over to Universal

How did I miss the candied pecans? Maybe they are buried under the other half of my cake in the fridge...
My report is boring just photos of all the food ... it’s been put in general photo reports as it’s all from my phone and I’m too technically impaired to figure out how to move it 😊😊😊😊

This is what Mr Grump and I would do whilst DL would declare we were embarrassing her I love how our sense of humor appears very similar. That's another point to DW I'd say, do I make that 3 DW 0 CMG? X

The pecans come with the Jasper board, chocolate cake and in one or two other places but not sadly with the hummingbird cake
Will have a look at the photos and see if we can spot ourselves in the background Enjoy your day, weather looking good

Hmm are you actually DW in disguise I only know it's not true because she would need an hour on the phone to a tech support line to build her own meme 3-0, why not 6-0

Lunch - Art Smith’s Homecomin’ (Disney Springs) Looking forward to this one perhaps more than anywhere as comfort food, BBQ, Southern etc. all right up my street. DW was not keen, didn’t look like her sort of menu but there was no way I was cancelling this ADR. Nice restaurant, bigger than it looks in photos I thought and we were seated quickly (surprisingly given the lack of ADRs available there were several tables free). DW and DD had the usual drinks (J&DC and AJ - I might get some cards made with this printed on to save time ordering). I fancied a beer so I ordered a Yeungling, pleased that they had recovered from Anakhin’s attack on the Jedi Temple (did I only order this to make that obscure Star Wars joke, you decide ) DW started with chicken soup. I recommended to get a cup but she ignored me and ordered a bathtub sized bowl of lovely chicken soup that was pretty much chicken pie filling. This was great, a meal in itself but really nice. DD and I shared the Jasper board. This is a platter with two different types of ham, pimento cheese, buttermilk crackers, pickles, smoked fish dip and candied pecans. This board was amazing, for the two of us it was the best starter of the holiday to date. The ham, pickles and crackers were great, DD and I fought over the Pimento cheese and the candied pecans, oh...my...goodness Sweet, salty, crunchy and nutty. I’m the only one who tends to go for nuts so I adopted a poker face as I picked the board clean of these. Unfortunately DW eventually twigged and tried one and from then on it was a race to find the remaining ones from under the cheese etc. Oh and there was smoked fish dip on the board too. There's never a good time for smoked fish dip Great start to the meal and everyone was looking forward to the mains. DD ordered beef for a change. We’re not keeping track of the ‘beef streak’ but that must be a long run of consecutive orders! Braised Short Ribs, This fancy “pot roast” is made by slow-cooking boneless beef short ribs until they are fork tender. Served over creamy mashed potatoes with grilled corn succotash Loved this, super tender beef, great mash and the succotash was something special too. I found it hard to choose among so many mains I wanted to try but eventually picked out a HFK Barbecue Bun (Sweet and spicy barbecue chopped pork piled high on a brioche bun and topped with southern slaw served with house-made barbecue chips drizzled with icebox dressing) Nice to see you again Admiral but we're overdoing the Star Wars gags, shoo The bun, or bap depending on where you’re from was soft and the chopped/pulled pork inside absolutely delicious. At the server’s suggestion I did have the coleslaw on the side but actually ended up putting a lot of it back in because it was fairly plain and needed to balance out the sweet barbeque sauce of the sandwich Excellent this one and I bet my alternative pick of the chopped BBQ plate would have been equally good. The only let down were the BBQ chips with icebox dressing that came across like UK Kettle Chips in a flavour you wouldn’t buy twice. Oh and this must be an Are you Brighter than the President nominee for orangest meal (should have had the coleslaw served inside the bun!) DW had been planning on a kids menu main until right at the last second when she ordered an adult chicken burger. Mash side was a DW adjustment. A burger with mash Fried Chicken Sandwich, Buttermilk-brined for 24 hours and double-battered, dressed with hot sauce, aioli, iceberg lettuce, tomato and bread and butter pickles served with house-made barbecue chips drizzled with icebox dressing She thought this was ok, it was an odd order for her, not generally her sort of thing but she ate most of the chicken with some mash and seemed to enjoy. I had a bit of the chicken and it was decent but I preferred all of the other things we ordered to this personally. Desserts next and we shocked the server by going for one each. Have to live it large on the DXDDP right? I went for the Hummingbird cake, DW the chocolate cake and DD the doughnuts. All great again, doughnuts were a bit of a waste because you literally get the equivalent of a pack of doughnuts with a powerful syrup, impossible to do justice after that meal and presumably will go hard quickly. They were very soft and sugary, bit of cinnamon too I think. Chocolate cake was good but the highlight here was more candied pecans, we asked for an extra cup and then DW and I squabbled over them here and back in the room (BTW they also serve these in the bar with some of the drinks ) My hummingbird cake was also gorgeous, pineapple and cream cheese yum, it was was gone by mid afternoon which meant it must have been good with how full we were The bill came to $153 Let’s not beat around the bush, that is a lot of money for orange food but there’s orange food and there’s orange food. While these might look like TGI Fridays meals from a distance, once you try it you’ll realise this is in a different league. Dinner is at Teppan Edo, sayonara for now

Now homecomin is on our list for next time. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a poor review . Those braised short ribs are perfect , ( not sure $30 perfect though ) that’s my type of food and the puddings I’d have tried the lot .you can never eat too many puddings really on holiday .
Just to help me budget , would you have had a starter if oop or was the food plentiful without the starter. I’m going to have to sit and study this menu I think . Oh and just for clarification is not a bun or bap it’s a breadcake

In Scotland it’s a roll.
This caused ds great confusion in Cowfish when he wanted sushi and didn’t order it as he thought a shrimp roll was a bread roll with prawns on it. Homecoming looks good. That hummingbird cake sounds nice as does your starter. Edited at 03:53 PM. |

The homecoming food looks delicious right up my street and I love candied pecans, resisted the urge to make further comments about tasty nuts as it seems your DD is reading this, although my DD would have a good snigger about anything mentioning nuts!
Still my money for brighter than the president is on your DDs Cali grill selection!

I agree about Tiffins’ dessert menu being a bit lacklustre, everything is fabulous so It lets it down quite a bit. Not that dessert is ever high on my radar in Disney.
I gasped when I saw your Trail’s End breakfast plate (I am very prone to drama), I can’t believe they have changed to those rubbish skinny sausages, they used to serve nice fat real ones. Please try and make it to Wilderness Lodge for a visit, it is my favourite resort, the lobby is just wonderful. If you decide to make any further tweaks to your dining line-up I can highly recommend Artist Point and Whispering Canyon Café is probably my favourite lunch spot of all. I’ve always fancied WCC breakfast too but it’s just never worked out for us. I’m glad you enjoyed Homecomin’, I was actually quite nervous eating there after all of the hype. It was nice to see some entrees other than the fried chicken too. I’m with Rescuer, it’s a roll! |
