Loving the Akershus review. I'm now debating cancelling CRT if it's very similar ... hmmmm ... choices!

A little disappointed in Via Napoli, when I made the booking there were so many rave reviews, but recently I've actually seen a lot of disappointing ones regarding flavours so debating cancelling this one also.

Those snacks look lovely particularly the ice cream! X

Dinner - le Cellier (EPCOT Canada)

On to the concrete boulders of the Canada pavilion. Le Cellier is in the basement of that cute Chateau/fake hotel building and is a signature restaurant. We arrive a little early to be told that our table will be 20 minutes past the ADR time so a good 30-35 minute wait. We’re not allowed to wander off, nor can they call us or buzz etc. and there wasn’t enough seating. All rather inconvenient for a late dinner, in future I think I’d eat there early.

Anyway seats freed up on a bench outside after a while and eventually the call came through

The place is dark inside. Quite a nice vibe and I didn’t find the tables as unbearably close together as is sometimes described. We started with a beer - Maudite by the excellent Unibroue for me and a classic martini for DW. After many days we finally managed to get DD to try a drink, she went for a non-alcoholic Northern Lights cocktail choosing pomegranate lemonade to be served with vanilla ice-cream and a glow cube. She loved this, it was like drinking sherbert apparently.
Certainly looks pretty! And EPCOT t-shirt Challenge 16/22

Some bread came round next and the first DD experience of lovely pretzel rolls. We both loved these and could happily have eaten more.

DD struggled to pick a starter and in the end went for a spicy lamb meatball special which was on a bed of sweetcorn with what looks like some crumbled (goats?) cheese. Anyway this was too spicy and ended up coming home in a takeout box after one bite.

Below the meatballs you can see my order of the classic Cheddar Cheese soup. I really enjoyed this, tasting the peppery undertones and a dash of the Moosehead beer I enjoyed in the pre-trip. Very nice bowl of soup and deserving of its fame for me.

DW ordered a dish of Cedar Key Clams

She absolutely loved this and cleared the plate which already meant that she would leave a lot of the main but she enjoyed it so much she couldn’t stop.

Main course and DD went for the le Cellier Fillet Mignon, served medium-rare and with chips instead of mushroom risotto. The chips were gorgeous and I liked the steak but unfortunately it was very heavily peppered (several of the dishes were) and even with the sauce on the side, DD couldn’t take the amount of pepper and left most of it. The Monsieur Paul beef remains her favourite, she’s tried half the fillets in town this week!
EPCOT t-shirt Challenge 17/22

I ended up ordering the salmon which sounded great on the menu (Skuna Bay Canadian Salmon (Maple Corn Purée, Dauphine Potato, Hen of the Wood Mushrooms, Confit Tomatoes, Tomato-Bacon Vinaigrette), looks absolutely vile in this photograph but it did taste good.

I didn’t eat those slimy brown things at the bottom of the plate. What are they, the mushrooms?

If I’d properly looked at this photo before starting I’m not sure I’d have enjoyed the dish as much. One of the benefits of eating in a dark cellar I guess. Anyway the salmon and the potatoes were very good. Someone had split a handful popcorn over my plate, I’m hoping it was the chef. Anyway I didn’t let it bother me and this in fact added a little crunch. Hen of the wood mushrooms are best left in the wood from the look of them. Weird dish but good.

DW went for the regular fillet, sauce on the side as usual.
Better presentation

She liked this just fine but could only have a small amount before we transferred it into a box to be eaten later

Sadly no desserts tonight, we were exhausted. Even though it was only just before 10pm it felt like a very late meal in the end after lots of walking in the heat. The bill came to a chunky $241.

The next main meal is...Nine Dragons tomorrow lunchtime. Wifi was down last night when I tried to update so catching up today

Ah good, Nine Dragons. We haven’t eaten there for a few years and were thinking of it this year as a reasonably priced OOP meal.

DD is very perceptive recently she said to me that my job is to embarrass her and her job is to annoy me so I was just doing my bit you know

It's a classic so bad it's good as far as I'm concerned and a nice source of a pop reliable music show running through the day at World Showcase. I want to meet the imagineer who came up with the back story

We were disappointed by Via Napoli too because we had a great dinner last time. Some things just hit and miss but the pizza needs to be reliable at what is primarily a pizza restaurant. DW is visiting Tutto Italia later where I suspect the food will be better so keep an eye out for that CRT as Goldia says you should probably do it once for the location.

Thanks all for still following this food marathon

After several failed attempts to visit a waterpark we decided not to visit Magic Kingdom in favour of a lie in and a quick trip to Blizzard Beach. None of us have ever been there before, we’ve always ended up at Typhoon Lagoon for whatever reason. Not too much to report food-wise just some a coffee for me from the Joffrey’s and some doughnuts (these are great aren’t they!).

This was good although they aren’t allowed to give out straws for the drinks which is kind of annoying. First iced coffee I’ve been served so far which hasn’t had a ton of unwanted syrup mixed in. It was okay, would have enjoyed more with a straw though. Those doughnuts

DW basked in the sun while DD and I did a few of the medium intensity type slides, a couple of laps of the lazy river (it’s so long!) and a quick go in the wave pool and that was about it.

We headed back to EPCOT and straight out for lunch at Nine Dragons (next review). After lunch the girls headed back while I stayed on to watch the China movie. I also picked up a beer in Norway, this was supposed to be an Icelandic white beer.
EPCOT t-shirt challenge 20/22

But actually it tasted of pretty generic lager. They sold a lager as well so I am wondering if it was even the right beer they had wired up to the draft! Anyway it was...

After this I had one final mission and I was dreading it! With only two t-shirt Challenge entries to go I went to Japan in search of snack credit sushi. Which appears not to exist any more So I bought this and decided to spend the evening considering if this could ever be considered Japanese sushi
Cuteness overload!

I also picked up these adorable candy sushis for DW who had been so fed up the night before at the sudden disappearance of (packaged) snack credit purchases in the World Showcase.

Will sweet DIY sushi pass the Collybird test? With just two Disney days to go and no spare meal slots how will theCMG family get their German sausage? Is DD going to fall asleep in her main course at Narcoossee again? To be continued later today...

Finally up to date hooray! Drive home from Cornwall was 51/2 hours and that was with no traffic (left at 4.30pm). Hugely enjoying your food report. Very entertaining and extremely informative. Lots of new places/foods to consider. Keep up the excellent work 😁

Well I wouldn't be disappointed to miss a German sausage, but the challenge is on! I'm rather a plan kind of girl when it comes to food, not very adventurous I'm afraid.
