[WDW-40, 2016] Day 17: Dozing & Dole Whips
Day 17
Pineapple Lanai / Capt. Cook’s September 20th, 2016 I take a lot of photos at Disney! I can never include them all! All the photos from this day here | Florida 2016 photo collection on Flickr here WDW-40, 2016: Trip Report Index | Pre-Trip Report Day 17 was a rest day for us. I still wasn’t feeling well, and felt like I needed a full on down day. I couldn’t face going to a noisy theme park with a banging headache. My brother and his girlfriend were off doing their own thing again today, so it meant Steve and I could just have a rest day, hanging out at our resort. Today’s trip report is the shortest ever… I spent a lot of today lying in bed, dosed up on meds, and feeling sorry for myself. We had both lunch and dinner from the Poly's quick/counter service - Capt. Cook's. We also went out for some late afternoon fresh air, grabbing a Dole Whip at the Pineapple Lanai, and having a wander over to Grand Floridian. Before coming back to Poly and seeing the Torch Lighting Ceremony. I’ll pop some commentary amongst the photographs below, but that really is about it for today! Disney’s Wedding Pavilion Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Basin White at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa Disney’s Contemporary Resort Bora Bora Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Villas & Bungalows (DVC Resort) The walk to and from Poly and Grand Floridian is a lovely one. It takes maybe about 20 minutes? The white sandy beach edges the path, and since this was our first visit as DVC Members, we started a new tradition of writing in the sand, which we will do for every trip we take from now on! Once back home at the Polynesian, we stopped at the Pineapple Lanai to buy a Dole Whip – a much beloved Disney snack! We actually had Dole Whip Floats which is soft serve pineapple or vanilla ice cream with pineapple juice – yummy! They cost just over $5 each. On this particular walkabout I didn’t bring out my camera, and hubby didn’t bring out the video camera, so just typical that we would see our first Torch Light Ceremony and I only got crappy picture and video out of it! The ceremony happens [I think] most nights as the sun is starting to go down, and it is a way of saying goodbye to the day, and aloha to the night. The fireknife dancer was actually the same guy we saw in Spirit of Aloha a few hears back – absolutely amazing to watch! And finally, lunch and dinner was from Capt. Cook’s, the counter/quick service restaurant at the Poly. It is tucked away around the corner from the lobby in the Grand Ceremonial House. There is a line up area in front of the counters where you place your order – fast food style – and it is a bit of a pain as you can end up standing around as you wait for it. I don’t think it is laid out particularly well. There are a few big fridges with drinks, fruit, veggies, sandwiches, sushi, and cupcakes. You can also buy bags of potato chips (crisps), cookies, and other baked goods, and there is a counter with the drinks fountain for the refillable mugs. I’m going to just put all the food together in one batch. I can’t remember who had what now, but I know from what we ate from Capt. Cook’s in 2017 that the Pork Fried Rice is very tasty, and one of my favourites on the menu! I know that the cupcake would have been mine, and would have been delish! Disney do make a good cupcake! Capt. Cooks Chicken Caesar Salad – Freshly Tossed-To-Order ($9.99) Grilled Chicken Sandwich – Served with Cheddar, Bacon, Teriyaki Sauce, Pineapple Salsa, and French Fries ($10.99) Pan Asian Noodles and Vegetables – Served with Chicken ($9.99) Pork Fried Rice – Traditional Fried Rice with Slow Roasted Pork ($8.99) Sushi Platter 1 ($9.49) | Sushi Platter 2 ($8.99) Minnie Mouse Cupcake ($5.59) *********************************************** Capt. Cook’s, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Bill: $64.53 + Tax: $4.20 + Tip: $0 = $68.73 TiW Discount: $0 _______________________________________________ Total paid: $68.73 *********************************************** You’ll be glad to know that tomorrow is a little bit more exciting! I’m feeling better and we head over to Epcot for the Food & Wine Festival!
