I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading all your meals in Disney. I think I would like to go for a meal with your wife just so I can copy what she is eating...actually that wouldn’t be allowed as we never order the same meal in our house as you can’t share!
Thanks for taking the time in your holiday to share your report
I’m dying to see what and where you eat in Universal.

I’ve read this whole report in two sittings (longer than your average Disney three course meal sittings) and I’m still giggling like a loon at Obi Wan-hundred and Eighty from the start of the report.

It’s been a real treat. Thoroughly enjoying the Admiral’s occasional cameos too. And you haven’t helped my swinging around between Monsieur Paul/Narcoosses/Fling Fish that I am currently dithering about for my rather significant birthday later in the year.

Looking forward to the next instalments.

Thanks so much for taking the time while you’re away to do a TR, it’s been a fab read. I’ve decided to cancel via Napoli after your review (in all honesty our second time there was pretty awful) and was looking at eith chefs de France or spice table but thinking I’ll go with spice table for the illuminations view.
Enjoy HRH, the food from the beach club is pretty good for a lazy evening at the pool!

Thanks Too many of these signatures are inconsistent on the service, luck of the draw I guess, our server was phenomenal but they weren't that busy so easier to be attentive. The dessert was

DW thought you were a man offering to take her out, I had to break it to her about what the pink mouse ears mean. I'm also confident that any other man who took her out would bring her back fairly quickly This is one way to check if she's stlll reading now the signature meals are all finished

I'd forgotten about Obi Wan Hundred and Eighty That and my (unloved ) Pongu Lumpia joke were probably my favourites from the trip. But you can never predict what people will and will not find funny so I'm glad you like that one That's a hard choice between those 3 we'd collectively say Monsieur Paul edged it on the food front but the atmosphere is the weakest of the 3 (unless you could go when it was busy - maybe a Saturday night?) so it depends what you want.

No problem, Chefs and Spice Road both showed up very well and Tutto Italia was good too so lots of good choices even just from the ones we made it to. We're loving HRH already, much more chilled and plenty of food reviews to follow just at a slightly less manic pace

Well done, theCMG. Because of your report (well it helped) I just booked 14 nights at Coronado Springs for 9-23 November 2019 with the regular Dining Plan... Star Wars should be open by then hopefully, happy to wait hours for it. Grrrrrr!

Good stuff, I'm very jealous about getting to see Star Wars so soon. It'll be horrific to queue for mind you but I'm still jealous Thanks for reading and the Monsieur Paul lobbying!

Breakfast - Ale & Compass Restaurant (Yacht Club Hotel)

Our final day at Disney and we have four Table Service credits and no snacks remaining, Our last ADR is at the Ale and Compass restaurant in the hotel. We are down there before 8 as part of a plan to get over to Universal in time for a decent first park day while our room is being readied at the Hard Rock Hotel.

Now the Ale and Compass is one of those restaurant where you see the staff hanging around outside forlornly pretty much permanently. It’s big and I didn’t spot more than a handful of people in there the whole time we were there. When we turned up for breakfast you could honestly believe they hadn’t sold a breakfast for weeks.

In fact when I tried to grab DD a banana from the buffet the fruit was so far back no human arm could ever reach it under the glass without violating the yoghurt pots in front of them. We took this as a sure sign that breakfast customers were harder to find than an edible pizza in a Disney park.
Bananas. So. far. Away

Anyway I have to apologise for being a little lax on the buffet photos this morning. The customer to staff ratio was such that my snap and run technique for buffet photography was going to be too obvious so it’s limited to the banana pic (and even that had the staff scurrying around to rearrange the fruit from ‘looks good when inspected by the hotel manager’ to ‘accessible by paying customer’).

In terms of drinks, DD had a tea from an enormous Twinings box, I had a pot of French Press coffee (good but not as great as California Grill’s) and DD had an apple juice which tasted like it had once been iced and was now diluted by melted water. Here’s the plate we picked up from the buffet. Note the general lack of hunger levels, top plate is DW, middle DD, bottom plate mine.

The buffet selection was fine, a higher end selection than the default Disney buffet so rather than just sliced ham there was soppressata, prosciutto, a wide range of fruit etc. but only a couple of pastries to choose from, no waffles, fruit loops etc. basically a toddler-proof buffet.

On the deluxe you’re allowed the buffet and an entree order. The mains selection is fairly interesting:

Shamefully only I could bring mself to order a main and went for Salted Caramel-Apple French Toast (with choice of Sausage, Bacon, or fresh Fruit). This photo must have been eaten by Stitch or whatever the default Disney technical fail excuse is today because while I captured this and the teas and coffee in photos I just can’t find them

Here’s a picture of the dish as served to a less inept photographer:
Note the lack of my trademark blurriness and poor lighting

And here’s how I ate it

This was good, very sweet and lots of apple. I didn’t actually use any of the extra syrup it came with and I love syrup. Mine came with a side of bacon but DD ate most of that as a replacement for the smoked salmon that was quite to her tastes in her bagel (she did also get a second small plate from the buffet).

The bill was a bit of a saga. It was $79 but for some reason the server kept trying to get me to sign a bill for the $79 rather than the tip. Different to all the other restaurants and I wasn’t going to do it because I could see myself on the phone to Disney a month later trying to get stuff removed from my credit card!
One of many bills to be torn up at some point in a long conversation

Not what you need when you’re trying to check out early. I think it was the fact they’d not had a customer for days rather than anything dodgy but it was irritating to go through several versions of the bill before one that looked like all the other Disney ones was produced.

All in all an okay place but I wouldn’t go out of your way to visit it. After this we traded in the one remaining (bonus) credit for 3 snacks, excuse the blurry photo

Really enjoyed your Disney food trippie. Thanks so much for taking time to do it. Also, much respect and big shout out to your DD who has an amazing palate for a 12 year old. Mine is 11, 12 when we go and I'm alread checking menus to see what she will eat. Not that she's mega fussy chicken nugget and chips type, she'll eat Asian and Italian and steak! So my request to your DD would be to rate her steaks in order of best to worst and this may help me slightly with my planning!

Enjoy Universal and safe trip home 👍🏻
