Day 9 - Hard Rock Cafe Breakfast

We decided to go for a hearty breakfast at Hard Rock Cafe this morning in preparation for HHN tonight - it’s served between 8:30am and 11am.

We were seated straight away and I ordered Waffles and a side of seasonal fruit for us to share, My waffles came with maple syrup, maple butter and strawberry’s. Dan ordered a kids breakfast which which came with breakfast potatoes, 2 pieces of bacon, a English muffin and 2 eggs - the only indication that it was a kids breakfast was that it was served on a guitar shaped plate

The waffles were tasty and despite their size they were quite light in texture. Dans breakfast was average against other breakfasts he has had - I’d give it a 7/10 and Dan scores it 6/10.

Just spent a very enjoyable 30 minutes catching up with this. Love, love, love Shake Shack. Those crinkle fries are the best. I don't like burgers at all so I am so happy that they now offer a chicken burger option. The concretes are amazing too, although none that we have had have ever been as good as that first one we had in NY in 2014.

I'm glad you enjoyed Keke's, it's a regular stop for s at least once a trip. They actually do a really good lunch too.

Did you find the cocktails expensive at Portofino? I do love a cocktail by the pool but the prices at the Universal hotels always leave me with a bad taste in my mouth. They do taste good though.

That room service pizza looked great, definitely better than the Dominos. And not actually that expensive, as room service prices go.

Looking forward to more.

Looks like a really tasty breakfast. We've only ever been to hard rock for dinner, but it looks like a winner for brunch!

Shake shack is always a good choice and we know that it will be good - Gotta admit the best one we had was in NY though.

cocktail's are $10 inclusive of the free glass, the glass was plastic though but the cocktail was well made, fruity and had lots of alcohol in it

We’ve been back to Keke’s today again and it didn’t dissapoint and the room service was waaaay better than the Dominos - going to give Dominos a wide birth again whilst we’re out here.

Glad you’re enjoying the report - we’re almost half way through the holiday now but plenty more to come 😋

Day 9 - Finnegan’s bar and grill - Universal

For those of you who have visited Halloween horror nights before you’ll know how busy it gets. We read that if you go into the parks early and stay then you have a better chance of getting to the houses before general admission. There are 3 holding areas where you can wait - The Simpsons area, Finnegans or near Hello Kitty store at front of the park.

We decided to go to Finnegans to guarantee air con, the possibility of a seat and potential food. We arrived at 4pm and the place was heaving - I asked if there was an available table and we were told that the wait was an hour and we’d have to share a table with some random people - I was happy to do this. About 50 minutes later I received a text to say a table had become available. We were sat with a couple from Indiana (cant remember their names) and they had the same idea about camping out in Finnegans - they were really nice people.

A bread basket arrived with soda bread - I use the term soda bread loosely as this was far from soda bread - more of a nasty salty, crumbled scone.

For food I ordered the fish sandwich which is a battered fish fillet in a bun with wedge fries and tartare sauce.

It wasn’t great at all, fish oily, chips meh - sadly the best bit was the pickle on the bun - I’d give it a 4/10 - it would be a 3 but i’ll Give it an extra point as it is cool and a place that we could camp out.

Dan ordered a grilled chicken burger with bacon and cheese but with no salad

He didn’t enjoy his either - the chicken was cardboard dry, bread dry and bacon over cooked - he gives it a 3/10

Even though the restaurant was extremely busy I still think the food wouldn’t have been great so unfortunalty this meal is currently ranked as the worst so far - We’d still recommend camping out here though if you’re coming to universal for HHN

Day 9 - Monsters Cafe

HHN was awesome but very crowded on the first night - whilst we managed to go through all the scare zones and see the academy of villains show we only managed to go to one house - the wait times were huge. We are going back on Sunday and then possibly later in the trip but will get the express pass otherwise we wont get to experience all the houses. It is amazing though - The Killer Klownz and Vamp 85 zones are our favourites so far.

Here are a few non food related snip-its - i’ll do a proper report when I get back

We had a butterbeer and a cool down in knockturn alley (great place to go for a minutes peace and air con when the parks so busy)

93A2BC09-BEBE-4EED-B893-995872791B91 by MARIA PASS, on Flickr

We then tried to get some food from Louies pizza or the HHN food stands - not a chance most had sold out and it was only 9:30pm, we found that Monster cafe had food so I ordered a cheese pizza slice, fries, coke and water - it came to $23

I cut this in half - it was one big slice

This food was purely for sustinence not pleasure at this point it was ok, the fries were pretty salty though - we would give it a 6/10
