Day 18 - Amorette’s Patisserie- again

Following the our meal at the Rainforest cafe we fancied dessert so Dan popped over to Disney springs to see what he could find.

Seeing as we had fantastic desserts from Amorettes previously we thought we would go again.

Dan ordered a chocolate eclair and the 49th and Broadway | N.Y. Cheesecake : Lemon Curd, Blueberries, and Chantilly cream

The chocolate eclair was delicious filled with rich dark creamy chocolate cream but the cheesecake was the showstopper - such a beautiful cheesecake super creamy and with the lemon curd and blueberrys it was brilliant. 9/10

Day 19 - Car Treats and Wild Florida

We were up early this morning and unfortunately the food we ate in the morning was just to tide us over as we were trying to make sure we had room for Food and Wine festival later in the evening.

We started off by sharing a brownie from Amorettes, this was very nice but a lot messier than I anticipated. The brownie was quite sticky and stuck to the bottom of the paper.

We also had some lays crisps.

We spent the morning at Wild Florida (which I highly recommend - we did an airboat ride, held and fed aligators, saw sloths and other amazing animals) we didn’t want to get a full meal as we didn’t want to get full so just ordered a portion of fries to share - these were $3 and were good

All in all basic food that did the trick

Day 19 - Cheesecake Factory

As we had a hire car we decided to go to the mall following our trip to Wild Florida. We thought we’d give Cheesecake Factory another go. We ordered take out cheesecakes as we only wanted to try a little taste and eat the rest later.

I ordered a classic Strawberry and Dan ordered a Anniversary Cheesecake which was chocolate and classic layered with a chocolate lattice top

These were much better than the previous one bought at target, Still quite expensive at $8 each but we enjoyed - we ate half at the hotel before we went out and the other half the following day. We’d give it a good 7/10

Day 19 - Epcot Food and Wine Festival

Chocolate Studio - Liquid Nitro Chocolate Almond Truffle with Warm Whiskey Caramel

This was very nice but I feel a bit overhyped, I couldn’t really taste any almond and in all fairness it tasted just like a really good chocolate ice cream, the whiskey also did not come through in the sauce sadly so this only gets a 6 and half/10

Chocolate Studio - Sweet Dark Chocolate Raspberry Tart with whipped cream

Dan here, this was my dessert (we decided we had to have both). It was a very rich soft textured dark chocolate. It was delicious. I was concerned that the raspberry might over power it but it was a great balance. 8/10

Canada - Canadian Cheddar Cheese and bacon Soup with Pretzel Roll

This was yummy with a great balance of cheddar and bacon, this is more of the consistency of a chowder than a soup and the pretzel roll was a great touch - Dan gives this 7/10 and I give it 8/10

Ireland - Roasted Irish Sausage with Colcannon Potatoes and Onion Gravy

This was very nice, not dissimilar to a home cooked meal of sausages and mash - not that special to us although the flavours were very nice - we’d give it 7/10

France - Carbonade de Boeuf, Purée de Pommes de Terre

This was great with tender beef and puréed potatoes a lovely stew and very tasty - Dan scores this 7/10 and I score it a 8/10

France - Creme Brûlée with Housemade Raspberry Jam

This had a great sugar crack, the brûlée overall was not oversweet which worked well against the raspberry and was very good indeed 8/10

USA - Brunswick Slider: Slow-braised Beef Brisket “Pot Roast Style” with Horseradish Cream Crispy Fried Onions on a Potato Roll with Pickled Vegetables on the side

Dan tried this but its not the kind of food he likes so I had the rest of this to myself - the brisket was tender and as a whole this dish goes really well - there was a little too much horseradish cream on this one though which became the overriding flavour. 7/10

Italy - Mezzi Rigatoni: Vodka Sauce, Crispy Pancetta and Parmesan Cheese

Well I can only describe this dish as utter crap, the pasta was uncooked (not al dente - just not cooked) the vodka sauce did not come through at all - I imagine it had evaporated and the pancetta was bland - as this was the most expensive of the dishes that we tried at $7 We were very dissapointed. - Don’t recommend 1/10

Day 20 - Car snacks and Hooters at Clearwater

Today we headed out to Clearwater beech for the day before Hollywood Studios in the Evening and a meal at the Yachtsman Steakhouse.

For the car we didn’t have anything that exciting just some doughnut holes, and a pain au chocolate

After an epic dolphin site seeing tour we stopped for lunch at Hooters, we went in with low expectations and not a huge appetite as it was a very hot day and Hooters isn’t know for be known as haute cuisine.

We were seated straight away and I ordered Fish and chips, and a side of fried pickles. Dan ordered two sides fries and mozzarella sticks and we asked for them to be brought out at the same time.

Surprisingly everything was quite tasty and cooked well, the fish pieces were a little strange as I thought it would be one large fillet and it came with potatoe salad as a side but was good. Dan thought it was good value for money and delivered to his expectations - overall a 7/10 and the bill $35

Day 20 - Yachtsman Steakhouse

This was a added as a last minute reservation and I managed to secure a booking for 9:25pm. We have been to this restaurant before and love it here so we were both really looking forward to it.

When we arrived we were seated straight away and the dining room was quiet, we were seated at a window with a view of the pool and boardwalk.

Here’s the menu:

For drinks I ordered my favourite drink from here - a blue glowtini which is similar to a lemondrop martini but comes with a flashing cube - in my opinion the Yachtsman does the best cocktails.

Dan ordered a O doules non alcoholic beer

Soon after been seated the yummy bread rolls came out with the usual roasted garlic bulb and salted butter - I had to restrain myself from eating all of the bread and garlic so I didn’t get full before my Entree but I can tell you now that I was safe from vampires 🧛 that night.

We both ordered the 8oz filet Mignon (medium) which comes with mash potatoe and Cabernet sauce and a side of the truffle mac and cheese.

As expected the steak was cooked to perfection, the mash creamy and delicious (not as good as Art Smiths though) and the sauce flavourful, the mac and cheese was creamy and yummy with a slight light flavour of truffle running through it. Service was fantastic too.

Dan here. Following the less than stellar performance by the Californian grill, I was nervous about returning back to the another signature steakhouse. I should have not worried, the yachtsman delivered the promise. Exceptional service, exceptional food. The steak was cooked to perfection and tasted incredible. The mash was soft and buttery. The mac and cheese was potent with truffle, it is a strong flavour but the balance is perfect here. A deserved 10/10.

We couldn’t fit dessert in unfortunately and i’d picked up a butterfinger cupcake and carrot cake cookie for later too.

The bill came to $140 before tip and was worth every penny 10/10

Day 21 - Carrot cake cookie and Butterfinger Cupcake

I picked these two up from Starbucks in Hollywood Studios with the view of eating them for breakfast or dessert if we couldn’t fit it in at the Yachtsman.

First up the carrot cake cookie - I am aware this has changed recently - its still a very large sweet item and could feed 4 people, its more of a cake/whoopie pie than a cookie but was very tasty and was packed with fruit. I would recommend to buy if you are going to share it 8/10

And the butterfinger

For me this was too sweet and sickly, it had a marshmallow type frosting with a chocolate cake base which was just too much - it was also huge

6/10
