So glad it was a better day food wise. Those burgers do look amazing, I'm going to make a point of showing the post to Mr Grump as I know he will insist on a portion of fries each! Narcoossee's looks absolutely divine. I'm glad that your mum enjoyed the desert. I think in future though you should order what you want regardless of the trip report, your on holiday xx

All up to date now.
Totally agree with the US obsession with apple sauce, what is that all about!
Also, hate the chopped up square potatoes as they never cook them enough and under cooked potatoes are horrid.
We love the QS at Yak and Yeti and go every time lol.
Your surf and turf looked amazing... i mean really amazing .
Looking forward to the rest. Thanks for sharing.

The almond cheesecake is my favourite thing to eat at disney. I tried to recreate it at home but it didn't work well 😂

As an American, I agree applesauce is overrated. It's the only baby food we never stop eating ...

Really enjoying your report. I love that you used last year's to prove a point about a dessert option

I love the smell of the Clam Bake I'm amazed though that they can get rid of it so quickly. I don't think Narcoossee's is too fancy, Nik loves it and he's a man of simple tastes. You should think about giving it a try, it's a lovely restaurant, of all the Signatures I think it's the most 'normal'.

Your starter at Narcoossees looks fab! Might have to try that though I’ve never actually had grits.
Speaking from experience, you'll find you tire of breakfast quite quickly so it's possible you'll want to switch to an early lunch some days.

That shrimp and grits dish is really delicious, it's the only time I've tried grits as when they are a buffet option they often seem really watery. The closest thing I can compare them to is polenta.

We loved D-Luxe Burger but it isn't on the list for next time but your pictures certainly are tempting me to revisit that decision!

Good info about the Mobile ordering issues when on the dining plan Wasn't aware of that so will look out for it
I can't see us returning to Cape May again either.

Hopefully any issues with Mobile Ordering will be ironed out by the time your trip comes around! It's almost ADR day!

I actually meant to put a note about my foundation at the end of the post I bought an Urban Decay one at Sephora, the most I've ever spent on make-up. The coverage was better than the Rimmel one I had, but not by much. I think I'll stick with good old Maybelline in future. I've used the Rimmel one since I've been home and the coverage is fine here, I think the heat must have been making my face flare up a bit more.

I am still sad you cancelled Narcoossee's! Next time?!

Narcoossee’s is a favourite of ours. Your review has made me want to have dinner there tonight!
I am really glad we finally made it to D-Luxe Burger, you should definitely make a point of going next year.

Thank you for reading!

We actually liked the Cape May Cafe breakfast experience but it is a little low key. The omelette's are worth a try next time

Enjoying the write-up and keep it coming
I think if we were looking for a breakfast in the Crescent Lake area in future we'd go with Ale &
Compass, I do like being able to walk to Epcot.

I always get myself in a tiz about what to order, I want to have my favourites because obviously we only get to have them once a year, but then I like to try new things in case I find a new favourite, I think all the planning we do make us overthink things!

Bon voyage! I cannot wait to hear all about your trip, have a marvellous time.

Hi Helen!

Yes, that cheesecake is a bit of a must-do!

Hi Julie!

I tried apple sauce once, thinking that it must be amazing if they are so obsessed with it, but it was awful.

To be honest, I am a bit about potatoes at breakfast at all, unless they are in the shape of tater tots!

Thank you for reading.

This made me laugh, I'd love to be able to recreate it, but I'm not a baker so I'd probably have much the same experience!

I just don't think apple sauce is sweet enough, maybe if they added some brown sugar and cinnamon I'd be all in.

DAY 4

This morning we were heading to Magic Kingdom for Early Morning Magic in Fantasyland. I said I wasn’t doing any ‘extras’ this trip, but the idea of multiple rides on Mine Train won me over. Starting at 7.45 am you get access to Fantasyland with unlimited rides on Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight and The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh for the hour and 15 minutes prior to the park opening. The carousel is also running during the event. This is considered a ‘Special Event’ and costs $69 per adult in addition to your regular theme park admission.

From December, the event is expanding to include Princess Fairytale Hall, it’s a small world, Mad Tea Party and Under the Sea. The price is increasing $10 and breakfast will move to Cosmic Ray’s in Tomorrowland although the offerings sound like they’ll be the same.

The day didn't get off to a great start, I was keen we left the resort at 6.45 am as we were driving to MK and that takes forever. Nik was running late in the morning and we didn't leave until after 7. I had also been toying with the idea of getting the bus to the park but I wasn't sure there'd be one running early enough for us to make EMM, of course, as we were walking to the car I saw a MK bus pulling away from the bus stop

As we were running late I suggested that we skip breakfast to maximise our time in the park, or eat later, but these weren't popular suggestions. So off we headed to Pinocchio Village Haus for what turned out to be a very expensive breakfast

Breakfast is served until 10am, and I presume the majority of people eat after the park is officially open.

Early Morning Magic

The buffet breakfast included with Early Morning Magic admission is currently served in Pinocchio Village Haus in Fantasyland. As you can see from the full plates we were one of the first groups silly enough to be wasting their time at the buffet.

Vegetable frittata and scrambled eggs

Turkey Sausage and Breakfast Potatoes

Pork Sausages and Bacon

French Toast

Croissants, Chocolate Twists and Cinnamon Rolls

Meats and cheeses

Fresh Fruit

They also have fruit juice and hot drinks you can help your to, as well as milk, yogurt and cereal. I know you pay for this breakfast in the price of admission but I think of it as free, and actually think it is a good spread, especially compared to what was on offer at Cape May.

By the time we had finished eating there was only time for one go on Mine Train, one on the carousel, one on Peter Pan’s Flight and one on Winnie the Pooh. I was really not happy.

***

I had a white chocolate covered strawberry from Big Top Treats, it was dusted in the current Disney trend colour of millennial pink, this was so nice!

Columbia Harbor House

Lunch today was supposed to be the Festival of Fantasy Dining Package at Tony’s Town Square but that had been one of the casualties of my ADR massacre. Later in the afternoon, we were waiting for the Magic Kingdom Railroad at Main Street station when the parade was heading up Main Street and I told Nik that we were supposed to be watching it from the area by the flagpole, he said he’d have really liked to do that so I rebooked the ADR for another day.

I pre-ordered our lunch via Mobile Order once again and were advised to find a table and come back to the collection point when it was ready. Again, I was really pleased with this system.

You can view the menu here.

I had Trio Platter - a combination of Fried Shrimp, Breaded Chicken Breast Nuggets and Battered Fish served with Hushpuppies and a choice of Green Beans & Carrots, Apple Slices or French Fries

This was awesome, and so much food for a QS credit, it was very shareable! There was even the option to switch out the hush puppies for another side, so you could have two sides of fries and split the rest of the meal between two of you. The fish was really nice, I enjoyed it more than the fish I had last year at Rose and Crown. The shrimp is always great here and Disney nuggets are delicious, they were much better than the strips at Chicken Guy.

Nik and Mum both had Tuna Sandwich - Tuna Salad served on Toasted Multigrain Bread, topped with Lettuce and Tomato, served with House-made Potato Chips

What can I say about this!? It’s a tuna sandwich, but a very good one. I am not a fan of the potato chips though, they always taste stale to me and they need more salt. There is an option on mobile ordering to switch them out for another side and I had switched to fries for both mum and Nik, but they gave us the chips and the fries, I presume because the sandwiches were pre-plated and they just grabbed it.

Lunch came to $52.54 but we used 3 credits.

***

I had a Citrus Swirl Float - Classic Frozen Orange Juice Slushy and Vanilla Soft-serve Ice Cream with Orange Soda from Sunshine Tree Terrace[.

This was disappointing, it didn’t really taste of anything, there was no orange flavour, when you’d have thought it would be overwhelming and the ice cream just taste like vanilla.

***

Artist Point

This was an ADR I came very close to cancelling; when it was announced that Artist Point would be switching to character dining I was concerned that the quality might diminish over the last few months of its operation as a Signature. Nik was really keen to return here, and as he really doesn’t ask for much when it comes to planning we kept the ADR.

We were very early for our ADR but they were happy to seat us. We had, what I’m sure was, the best table in the entire restaurant with a view of Wilderness Lodge’s gorgeous courtyard.

This bread was quite disappointing, it was very heavy.

Nik and Mum both had Smoked Mushroom Bisque - Nettle Pistou, Sunflower Seed, Salsify

This is one of the resort’s Signature dishes, I think the server said it has been on the menu for over 20 years. It is not on the new menu launching in December which is a real shame because it is very nice, and has a definite smokiness.

I had the Handcrafted Charcuterie - Butchers’ Meats, Pickles, Mustards, Preserves, Lardo Toast

This was a bit too fancy for me, I enjoyed the prosciutto and the rillettes, that were like pate, but the ballotine in particular had too much going on, it was very fruity. I was really disappointed that the bread served with the charcuterie was the same we had been served by dinner, this felt very lazy. It was also not toasted!

I had the Cedar Plank Skuna Bay Salmon - Wheatberries, Garden Squash, Frisee, Blood Orange, Ramp, Fines Herbes

I asked for it to be cooked medium but it was overdone. I was so disappointed as it had been a standout dish the last time we ate here, and I had purposely not ordered salmon the previous evening at Narcoossee's as I knew I'd be ordering it tonight. I didn’t enjoy the accompaniments, it was a very dry dish. The cedar plank salmon is also a signature dish at Artist Point and is also being removed from the menu.

Nik had the 7-oz Filet Mignon

He loved this, he said it was the best steak of the trip. He had Horseradish Sauce on the side which he realy enjoyed. I did find the presentation of the dish a little bizarre. The steak comes with your choice of side and he opted for Local Mashed Potatoes

These were really nice, but they were just like the mash they served on an Disney buffet! Nevertheless, much better than Narcoossee with their lumps.

Mum had Roasted Heritage Chicken - Smoked Cheddar Taquitos, Elote, Masa, Verde-Tomatillo Sauce

I specifically told her not to order the chicken, she kept ordering chicken at Signatures on our last trip and every time it was dull, this time was no different. It isn’t the most appealing of dishes, the black things are taquitos, little tacos, but she didn’t know what they were, and I don’t think she attempted to eat them, so I can’t tell you if they were filled! Again, the presentation of this dish leaves a lot to be desired.

I ordered a side of Roasted Pee Wee Potatoes

These were nice, but nothing special. Tesco sell baby potatoes in a bag for a pound that you cook in the microwave, I like those better

We also had a side of Macaroni and Cheese

Mum and Nik liked this but it was far too strong for my liking.

I had Dark Chocolate Cremeux - Espresso, Lingonberry, Chocolate Soup

I hated this, I expected it to be light and creamy, but it was like a very heavy mousse. I had been planning to order the creme brulee but the server spoke highly of this dish so I switched, I was annoyed at letting myself be swayed!

Nik and Mum both had Almond Butter Cookies with Orange Creamsicle Milk Shake

They were both happy with these. After they had ordered Mum said ‘do you think the cookies will taste like Pizza Hut Cookie Dough?’ I think she was disappointed

Nik loved his meal, but neither I or my mum had enjoyed ours. Our server was very nice, but extremely slow and kept disappearing, she took our orders but it was runners who brought the food. She also filled me in on the details of my charcuterie board after I had finished eating! We waited a very long time for the check, which is a huge pet hate of mine and I really didn’t feel like this was Signature service. Additionally, the ambience was questionable, throughout the meal I could hear nursery rhymes playing, I thought this was an odd choice of music for a Signature restaurant, until my mum told me a child at another table was watching an iPad (she recognised the videos as being ones my niece watches). I don’t think anyone, adults or children, should be watching videos with the sound on in any restaurant, be it QS, TS, or a Signature. This continued throughout the meal and none of the staff said anything, I did see two men being asked to remove their baseball caps though, which was nice to see as I don’t feel Disney enforce the dress codes in the Signatures enough.

I had heard lots of stories of Artist Point declining in quality recently and was sad that my experience tallied with that, I still feel it's a shame Wilderness Lodge is losing the restaurant in it's current incarnation. The pre-fix menu for the Snow White themed character meal launching shortly isn't particularly appealing to me, but as I'm a sucker for anything new at Disney I'm sure we'll be back to sample it at some time.

Dinner, not including the sides we added on, came to $227.89 and cost 6 Table Service credits.

Artist Point definitely sounds a let down- we have never been but don't think I will rush to try it. Can I ask a dumb question - what are hush puppies?! 😁

I'd have been chomping at the bit to get on the rides too, but you know I don't understand leisurely breakfasts when there is an empty park. Heading in at 9.30 would have been perfect...yes the buffet would have looked like a school canteen serving area but at least you'd have had your fill of 7dmt.

I am so keen to try out the new character dining with Snow White and the Evil Queen and some dwarves! This is pretty much top of my list for next year. I dont know how I'm going to squeeze in all the signatures I want, I'd pretty much written off Narcoossees until your review reminded me why I wanted to go there originally! Aah this is going to be tough.

Back to your meal...I knew you'd pick the charcuterie, when I was right I went back and decided you would pick either the salmon or scallops for the main course. And hurrah I was right, but what a shame the salmon was overcooked. This summer when we went to WCC Kate had the salmon and you said hers looked a bit dry like it had been overcooked. What is it with Wilderness Lodge and not being able to cook salmon properly?

Oh and I'm glad you rebooked your Tony's lunch so you could see the parade. I can't wait to find out whether it stood the test of time or fell by the wayside again.

Just made my train journey home a bit more enjoyable reading your latest update. Thank you.

Breakfast did end up being expensive!

Looking forward to reading what you thought of Tony's if you did make it. It is in my list of potentials but I have read a few bad reviews. The parade viewing area is a huge draw though.
