Arrival day dinner
We checked into the Royal Pacific Resort and almost immediately set off on the short stroll to City Walk. The intention was to get something quick and cheap and then get an early night (early US time that is).
I had picked out Panda Express in advance and I had even picked out one of my options in advance, I really wanted to try the orange chicken. So I ordered steamed rice with orange chicken and Beijing beef. Nev ordered fried rice with Beijing beef and sweet fire chicken breast. The bill shown does not correctly itemise our choices, but the amount is correct. We decided to sit outside to eat as they had those heating lamps out, the lighting changes colour though so not the best photos unfortunately. The first picture is mine which includes the orange chicken. I didn't enjoy my meal very much, the beef was the only part I ate. I did not detect any chicken in my orange chicken, it had to be 90% batter, in fact some pieces may have been 100% batter. The rice was stodgy and there was not enough sauce on the beef or chicken to make it more interesting flavour wise. Nev faired better, he also liked the beef and he said his chicken was quite nice too. He had chosen fried rice, so a bit more interesting than my rice choice but he still said it was stodgy and bland. He ate most of his meal, whereas I threw away about 75% of what was on my plate. Overall rating of 4 from me and a 5.5 from Nev. |

Excellent! Following along with great interest and enthusiasm.
I’ve always found Panda Express ‘OK’ but never understood the massive love it gets on the DIBB. I’m sure we ate in an Asian Sofitel restaurant a number of years ago. DH thinks it was called ‘Ken Hom’s Hot Wok’ but I’m certain that was his saucepan range but don’t dispute that Ken Hom may have been affiliated in some way! We enjoyed it.

Day 2 (first full day): Leaky Cauldron
Today we got up and headed to Universal Studios for early park opening, arrived at about 8:15 and walked straight in more or less. We decided to head straight to the Gringotts ride with the plan being to get a couple of tirns on it before opening time. In fact we managed three consecutive goes, then decided to take a more leisurely wander around the area before heading into the Leaky Cauldron for breakfast at around 9:45.
It was fairly quiet in there for breakfast, the first photo was taken at 10:00am. I decided to have the American breakfast whilst Nev opted for the traditional. I had tea and Nee had a coffee to accompany. We waited for our hot drinks and then we're escorted to a table with the food arriving shortly afterwards. The first plate shown below is the American breakfast and the second is the traditional. We were both very pleasantly surprised at this breakfast. We have been before and I have been less than complementary about it, but we decided to give it another go to take in the surroundings. We ended up having a very pleasant meal and I had a lovely cup of tea (not Lipton yay)! The difference between the American and the traditional were that the American has streaky bacon where the traditional had non streaky. They both had a croissant, two sausages, scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes. The traditional then also had black pudding, baked beans, tomato and mushrooms. We did therefore kind of wonder why they were the same price! Overall we rated it a 7. |

Looks good. We haven’t eaten at the Leaky Cauldron or the Three Broomsticks. Will be interesting to see which one you like best as we are definitely trying one in April.
Thanks for posting. Have fun. |

Great start!
I’m another who doesn’t get the Panda Express hype. We didn’t enjoy it at all. We preferred the Leaky Cauldron breakfast to the Three Broomsticks but I think it’s because they bring your food to you there so it’s hot. |
