Sounds like a brilliant idea to go back to the Yachtsman, all you had to do to get to bed after dinner was pop upstairs! You've had some fab meals over the last few days, the lobster did look delicious.

Day 12: Tusker House
I have had an 8:15am reservation since my 180 day booking window, however for the last few days Nev has been enjoying a lie in and I have been enjoying sunrise and early morning on the balcony with mugs of tea. Accordingly, this was changed to an early lunch.
Animal Kingdom was easily the busiest park we have seen on this trip, huge queue to get in, very busy and absolutely no fast passes to be had after our first ones were gone. We arrived at TH about fifteen minutes early, there was a big queue at check in but it moved quickly and we were seated more or less straight away. We each had two plates of savoury in the interests of research of course, Nev also had a sweet plate and got some biscuits to go. I don't like photographing buffets, so just our plates. My plates are the first two. This was a really good buffet with a good range of choices, our selections included pork roast, salmon, chicken, prawn curry, chicken curry, mac and cheese, mash, rice, pitta bread, beans and corn. All served at a good temperature and tasty. We both sampled the desserts and, with neither of us having a particularly sweet tooth, thought they were extremely pleasant to. All four characters visited us at the table for some photos, Donald, Daisy, Mickey and Goofy. Overall an 8 from us. Edited at 11:42 AM. |

Quick shot of our haul from this trip. We also got numerous Christmas tree decorations but they are wrapped up and I didn't want to unwrap. We had to buy the case as not enough room otherwise.

Claudette. I must comment on the quality of that buffet. The food looks excellent and nice to hear the temperature was ok as that tends to be an issue.
Well done.

I like Tusker House I think it’s defibitely one of the better buffets on site. I’ve really enjoyed reading your report.

Day 12: Flying Fish
I am sad to be writing this account of our final evening of the trip but here goes.
We wandered round to the Boardwalk about ninety minutes ahead of our reservation time, looked in a few shops, had a drink and really enjoyed taking in the atmosphere. We checked in at the restaurant thirty minutes early hoping they would have room but they were busy and told us that it was likely to be on time. We went to the bar next door to await a text message. We were indeed texted at our reservation time. We got off to a disappointing start with the table allocation. The restaurant looks lovely in the pictures that I have seen, however we could not see any of it. We were seated sort of outside the area, all I could see was Nev and the wall behind him and all he could see was me a couple of other tables and the exit. Onto the wine list, I wanted a sauvignon blanc as I intended to eat fish but to my surprise they were all 2013-2015 vintages. We asked was the menu correct and the waiter proudly said yes. We pointed out that this is far too old to be drinking a sauvignon blanc, he went to check and confirmed that the dates were correct. We picked a 2013 Valpolicella instead, I really would have preferred a white though. We had a bit of a wait for bread but eventually received four slices of the same loaf with whipped butter. Within thirty seconds of receiving the bread and before we had chance to butter a single slice the appetisers were plonked down. Nev had selected the pork belly and I picked the snow crab croquette. For main I chose the sea bass served with leek fondue and Nev had the char crusted New York strip. After finishing the appetisers, I would estimate we had a 30 second break before the mains arrived. The evening got off to a bad start with us being unable to even see the restaurant decor with our table outside facing a wall. It disn't get better with a sauvignon blanc offering so old I would hesitate to cook with it and a boring bread selection and whipped butter. Not that we had any time to eat any bread anyway. Nev quite liked his pork belly, but he didn't like the apples it was served with as they were very vinegary. My crab croquette looked appealing and was a nice texture but it was really heavily spiced, I am not a fussy eater and happy to take robust flavours but this spicing overpowered the crab totally. It could have been chicken, beef, tofu, anything really, as all I could taste was spice. The mains were not a great hit. Nev said his strip steak tasted burnt, admittedly it is described as charred, but perhaps this went too far. It was also only just still rare as ordered. But overall he felt the dish was boring, a piece of meat placed on top of a few potatoes and onions with nothing pulling it together, as he said, he could make that himself at home. My sea bass was unmemorable too, it was ok, the leeks were nice but the red wine reduction that it was sat in was also a little over powering for the dish. The biggest gripe of the evening is saved for the truly appalling service. Our three "courses" of bread, appetiser and main were served with no grace and with less than a minutes gap between each. We have had poor service a couple of other times on this trip, at Mythos and Tony's Town Square but at least they had a saving grace of decent food and are not signature restaurants. The food at Flying Fish would maybe warrant a 5 but considering the overall experience and the expectations from a signature, I could not rate this higher than a 2. I had been looking forward to this restaurant for about three years but it was a debacle from start to finish. Edited at 03:02 PM. |

Oh no! I’m so sorry you had such a bad experience on your last evening. Bringing out food too quickly has always been my biggest bug bear over there - you expect more from a signature restaurant given the price. I’ve not been to Flying Fish before - I have it on my list of ADRs to book for August but I may possibly rethink.
