Currently trying to upload my pre-travel day and my Mac iCloud photos don't seem to like me! I've been waiting an hour for my photos to upload and not be grey tiles, so I can add the images to my report!

Hopefully I will be able to work out what's going on!

Pre-Travel Day: Travel, Trains and Tiredness

Pre-Travel Day: Travel, Trains and Tiredness
Monday 15th April 2019

Today was full of packing, tidying and plenty of trains!

We were both up early, I think our body clocks thought that it was a normal work day and woke us up around 6:30am. I hadn’t had the best night sleep, I think it was a mixture of holiday excitement, as well as the normal pre-travel nerves of all of the things I still needed to do and didn’t want to forget .

The morning was spent packing. I thought I had been pretty organised over the past week and had piled up the toiletries and clothes I wanted to take, leaving them to one side ready. However, when I was ticking off my packing list (I LOVE a list!), there was quite a few things I had forgotten. This meant that packing took longer than I expected.

After tidying the house, it was close to lunchtime. As we wouldn’t be getting to the airport hotel until late and as I was in holiday mode, we decided to go out for something to eat. We live close to a Beefeater restaurant and decided to head there for one of their bargain lunchtime deals.

I went for the chicken and bacon open sandwich, which is served on ciabatta with salad and is absolutely huge! It also comes with fries and only costs £5. It was delicious, very fresh and I would highly recommend. Nathan opted for good old fish and chips, which was also £5. Again, his piece of fish was ginormous and was served with mushy peas. He thoroughly enjoyed this and took our waiter up on the offer of unlimited fries. I tried some of Nathan’s and thought that it was nice, but the batter was a little bit too greasy for me. Not only did Nathan eat all of his, as well as extra chips, he also ‘helped’ me out by eating one half of my sandwich.

Nathan had an ice water and I had a Pepsi Max, the total price was a super cheap £12.99 and we will definitely be heading back for the lunchtime specials again .

Back at home we did a little more tidying, getting all of Franklin’s cat supplies ready for my mum who is coming in to feed him. I also wrapped Nathan’s birthday presents, as I thought that I would be too jet lagged to do this on the Saturday afternoon we get back - his birthday falls on the Sunday.

As I was finishing off the last couple of present’s, my father-in-law arrived. He was taking us to the train station. We packed up the car with our suitcases, said bye to Franklin and headed off.

We got to the train station half an hour before our train, as there was very little traffic. When we were waiting in the lounge, we watched the terrible news about Notre Dam Cathedral.

Our first train was on time and took us to London St. Pancras and we managed to rush to catch the earlier Thames link to Gatwick. This is where travel day started to drag… there was a signal failure, so our train was re-directed and had to stop at additional stations. It felt like a never ending journey! Fortunately, I was well prepared with train snacks a.k.a our dinner, to keep us entertained. We had so much, we barely made a dent in the haul!

We didn’t arrive to Gatwick until just before 10:00pm, a journey that should of taken us around 2 hours had taken nearly 4! Exhausted, we caught the airport monorail over to the Premier Inn and crashed into bed.

It is currently exam season for me at work, so things are a little chaotic and I haven't managed to update as quickly as I would have liked - I am really sorry! I have a copious amount of notes and tonnes of pics, so I will get all days up over the next few weeks

Thanks for reading,

He knows he is too!

He was good, a typical cat and gave us lots of kisses as soon as we got home, then went on to sulk with us for the next few days as we had dared to leave him?!
