Happy Birthday To...Me! April/May 2019 - Day 6: Magic Kingdom, Homecomin & Epcot

Happy Birthday To...Me! - Day 6
2nd May 2019 - Magic Kingdom, Homecomin & Epcot

I woke up really early today and couldn't get back to sleep at 07:00 I gave up and got ready.

Today's outfit

We had agreed that we'd have the morning to ourselves and would then all meet up for our 13:30 ADR at Homecomin. Seeing as I was up so early, I decided on a whim to head to MK and take advantage of EMH.

Just as I was about to leave I noticed the room telephone was flashing so listened to the message - apparently there would be an intermittent power outage tonight between 22:00 and 08:00 tomorrow. Good to know.

I was lucky and a bus arrived straight away and it didn't take long to reach MK.

Beautiful!

Crowd levels were low so I had a nice time walking around and doing some rides (which were all pretty much a walk on) good thing as I hadn't made any FP+ since I'd just decided to come here this morning.

Then it all started to go a bit wrong.

I walked past "It's A Small World" - which I hadn't been on yet - and decided to have a go seeing as there was only a 5 minute wait.

Well something happened during the ride and we all got stuck in there for 30 minutes.

Stuck. On "It's A Small World". FOR.30.MINUTES.

I like the ride as much as the next person but after 30 minutes of non stop listening to that song on a loop I felt like I was entering the Twilight Zone

Luckily they managed to get it going again and by 09:45 I was off. Not sure I'll be going back on anytime soon though

LIES!

By this point I was starving so walked over to Starbucks for my obligatory coffee and sausage & egg muffin.

YUM!

I'm glad I decided to go eat in the seating area outside The Plaza under an umbrella as suddenly the heavens opened and it literally started POURING. It rained heavily for almost an hour

I messaged the others to see where they were and if they had managed to escape the rain. We kept ourselves entertained by sending pictures of our current locations and moods

Yikes...!

Bernie & Tig were in DS and had managed to duck inside a shop, and Lauren had actually just arrived at MK and was watching the Rainy Day Parade.

As per usual when it comes to Florida storms, after an hour of heavy rain it suddenly stopped and within minutes the sun was shining.

That's better!

Lauren said she had a few things she wanted to try and ride on her "must do before I leave" list so we agreed to meet at 12:30 to head to DS together.

I had a wander around Tomorrowland and of course that meant a go on the Carousel of Progress. It's an oldie but goodie
Strangely, the show stopped halfway and a CM came on the tannoy to announce that someone had exited the building whilst it was in motion so they needed to do some security checks and would restart in about 10 minutes. I didn't even know you could leave CoP while it was in motion? I suppose it was in keeping with my earlier luck of getting stuck on "It's A Small World" although at least in there it was sat down in an air conditioned place with WiFi so not too bad at all!

After that I had a ride on the People Mover - one of my faves.

They're definitely making some headway on Tron!

And soon it was 12:30 and time to meet Lauren. We caught the dancers out just as we were heading towards the exit.

We decided to get creative and get a bus to Saratoga Springs, get off at Congress Park and then walk over to DS from there.

As soon as we got there and started walking I got major dejavu from when we were there in 2016 - everything felt so familiar

Such a lovely walk!

By the time we got to Homecomin, Bernie & Tig were already there and luckily our table was ready. I noticed by the podium they had this autographed plate by Bill Farmer (the voice of Goofy) who my brother absolutely loves so I took a picture to send to him

I was really looking forward to this meal - I've never had a bad experience here and in fact it had been my favourite onsite meal during my solo trip in 2017.

Peach sangria

I knew I wanted to have the "Thigh High Chicken Biscuits" again and asked if I could have them as my entree as part of the DDP. Our server said it was possible but I'd need to pay for any sides OOP - which was fine as I could use my gift card for that. So I ordered that and, of course, "Momma's Mac & Cheese" - which I can confirm is still the best mac & cheese I've ever had!

SO GOOD!

Lauren had "Art's Famous Fried Chicken" which she loved.

And Bernie & Tig both had the "Grilled Mahi & Shrimp" which they said was amazing.

Even though we were all full, we still ordered dessert

My "Hummingbird Cake"

Bernie's "Shine Cake"

Lauren's "Key Lime Pie"

Tig's "Hamilton County Pecan Pie"

Again, everything was fantastic but we all left completely full. I remember thinking that even waddling was proving difficult

After lunch Lauren wanted to head back to CSR for a rest, and Bernie, Tig & I decided to have a wander around the DS shops and then head to Epcot afterwards.

We walked back to SSR and got on an Epcot bus at Congress Park.

We didn't really have much of a plan, but just wanted to have one last walk around. Epcot is our favourite park so we just wanted to soak up the atmosphere.

We bid a fond farewell to Dame Judi on Spaceship Earth and also managed to get on Test Track and Soarin. Actually crowds were low all day (probably the lowest of the whole trip) perhaps the earlier rain kept people away. It was a lovely afternoon though!

Bernie & Tig decided to have dinner at Katsura Grill in Japan. I wasn't hungry yet but accompanied them. I love the garden/seating area here - it always feels so tranquil.

After that we were all knackered so decided to head back to CSR. On the way I stopped by Kringla Bakeri in Norway to get some School Bread for later

Goodbye Epcot - you beauty!

We messaged Lauren to see where she was and she said she was on her way back from Walgreens and would meet us at the Mercado so we could all have a bit of a chill since it was our last night all together.

My original plan was to have something to eat at Mercado but I was feeling a bit sick so didn't end up having anything substantial. I kept my School Bread for breakfast tomorrow.

I did manage to get some of these down me though!

Lauren joined us and had the BBQ ribs platter (which she didn't rate - too much gristle) and an M&M's doughnut for dessert which was really nice.

Tig got an ice cream which he enjoyed.

We all sat in the Mercado chatting for a while - we couldn't believe it was our last night and how quickly time had gone! Bernie & Tig were going to be heading to New York first thing tomorrow morning for 5 nights and then to Seattle for 3 nights before heading back home to Copenhagen so we talked about their plans and potential ideas for future trips. Their DME pickup was at 07:00 so after a while they needed to head back to the room to pack and try to get some sleep. We all said our goodbyes and wished them a great time on the rest of their holiday!

Lauren was going to be heading back to London tomorrow, but her DME was only at 13:45 so we arranged to meet again at Mercado after checking out at 11:00.

When I got back to my room I realised I couldn't find my fitbit charger and figured I must have left it in the last room. I called Housekeeping to see if it was in the lost & found but sadly not. Luckily when I checked Amazon I found a fitbit charger for £2.99 and ordered - it could have been worse!

Today was the biggest walking day so far though!

My room telephone was flashing again so I listened to the message and it was another reminder about the intermittent power failures tonight. Good thing too as I had forgotten already

I watched some TV (Naked & Afraid - great show!) and at midnight the power went off so I took it as a sign that it was time to get some sleep!

Tomorrow I say goodbye to Lauren and make the move to RPR for a few solo days at Universal.

Thanks for reading

Day 7 is HERE.

Another great read. Despite the fact that I travel with children I do enjoy an adult trip report at times.

No unfortunately it isn't - you have to pay for it OOP. Off the top of my head it's around $5.50 including tax. I used my gift card to pay for it.
