Starlight, Star bright, Give Kids The World tonight - October 2018 Day 4 - MNSSHP

Index

16th October - Day 4

This afternoon and evening was going to be a busy one so we were going to have a chilled morning around the resort. First things first, morning photo!
On our way out to breakfast we stopped by the Mayors house, as promised, to see if he was in but he wasn’t so we carried on to the Town Hall.

Once we were in and scanned our meal card we spotted the Mayor and Ms Merry saying good morning to everybody. So that’s why they weren’t at home!
We had a quick photo with Ms Merry then went to get our breakfast. As with all meal times the lovely volunteers offered to help carry our trays, get our drinks for us and sort our cutlery.
This morning I had sausages, hash brown, potatoes and a cinabon. Oliver had sausages, hash browns and waffles. Ariana had waffles with cream and sprinkles. I have no notes on what Ross had but by the looks of it, it was a bit of everything.

At one point while we were eating someone came over to tell us our park shuttle was waiting for us... erm what park shuttle? Apparently they had us down for an 8:30 shuttle every day to take us to whichever park we were visiting that day. It was the first I’d heard of it! I said no thank you and that we wouldn’t need it on any day as we were using Uber.

Over breakfast we decided to try our hand at fishing this morning. We headed to the pool area and the attendants got some fishing gear out of the shed for us. They were a retired couple from Texas who’s children had grown up and moved out so they liked to come on holiday to Florida and volunteer for some of the time which is lovely. I’d love to volunteer there some time, maybe when we are old and have fulfilled the life dream of moving out to Tampa.

Once we were on the jetty we had to try and put the worms on the hooks. The kids found it absolutely disgusting. I’m used to fishing with maggots, not worms so they were slightly slimier than I’m used to but we got there in the end.
The fish were sneaky and would just take little nibbles of the worms rather than gulping the whole thing so we ended up having to cut the worms into little chunks. This seemed to work and I got the first catch! Much to Ross’ disgust.

After we’d taken some photos with our catch I needed to take the fish off the hook and put him back. Whilst I was trying to do this Ross managed to kick the rod, making everything move, making me think the fish was jumping and making me scream and jump a foot in the air in return. The kids were rolling around on the floor in hysterics. He says it was an accident, I’m not so sure!

I couldn’t take much more excitement so I went back to the villa to start getting ready for Magic Kingdom. Once I’d got my face on (no eyeliner today!) and packed the bag with the essentials and the MNSSHP costumes I went to get the other three at about 11. Ross had just caught a fish so I took some photos for him and he set it free.

Back at the villa we got the kids sorted then ordered an Uber to the TTC.
I have no notes about this uber driver but I can safely bet that Ross had a good chat with him about house prices and what not while I updated my notes.
I love getting the ferry over but we were pushing it for our 12pm BOG reservation so we got the monorail over today.

Once through bag check we had some issues with Ariana’s magic band, it wouldn’t scan and her finger print wasn’t working but the CM managed to get it sorted and we were through the gates.
Ariana was literally gob smacked at the sight of the castle, she walked the whole way down Main Street with her hand over her mouth in absolute awe. That’s what I wanted when I brought the kids and she didn’t disappoint!

A show at the castle had just started but unfortunately we didn’t have time to watch, we went right at the hub and into Fantasy Land and over to Be Our Guest, I did see the queue for Merida on the way and said to Ross that we’d have to go back and see her after dinner. We got checked in and went into the castle. There was a little queue but it soon went.

At the ordering stations we ordered two kids macaroni and marinara sauce with fries, a French dip sandwich for me and the braised pork for Ross. We also ordered a couple of the Masters Cupcakes. This came to $68.09 plus tip.

We sat in the ball room and again Ariana was in awe. She couldn’t stop looking around and was amazing by the snow outside, she thought it was sunny?! It took a while for the food to come but we filled in the time talking about what rides we were going to do today.
When the food came they had accidentally put broccoli on Ariana’s plate instead of fries but it was ok because she could share mine. She also got Oliver’s cheese as he's not a huge cheese fan (Yea, I don’t understand that either but never mind). The food was lovely! Mine was a beef baguette with a bowl of gravy to dip it into, it was divine! The kids are always happy with pasta and they loved the grey stuff, it’s delicious didn’t you know?

Once we were all done we had a look round the other areas of the restaurant then headed back out into the blazing heat. I know I’ve said it before but being sat in air conditioned bliss for an hour, you totally forget how bright and hot it is out there!

The first ride of the day was going to be the 7 Dwarf’s Mine Train. I flashed the GW pass and we were pointed down the FP lane. We waited about 5 minutes and we were on. The kids loved it! They were total dare devils and put their hands up for most of it. I do love this ride, it’s great fun.

On the way over to the Little Mermaid ride we stopped by Gaston’s Tavern and had a photo there. These are the kid’s best muscle poses! I’ve still never been in there for one of the cinnamon buns...one day!

Once at the Little Mermaid we were send down the FP lane again. There was another family who had stopped just past the FP entrance and were sorting their bags out or something so we walked past them and they started having a go at us for ‘pushing in’. So what, they wanted us to stand there and wait for them until they’d sorted their stuff out? It’s not like they were at the back of a line of people and we went and stood in front of them. They were stood on a path leading to the ride, faffing about. We let them barge past us and wished them a magical day.

A Clam Shelfie...geddit?

When we got on the ride and had a good sing and dance we soon forgot all about the rudies! And once the ride was over we went straight next door to meet the mermaid herself. The CMs took us to the exit of the meet where we waited a few moments for the family in there to finish. While we were waiting I put Ariana’s Ariel clip on her hairband then it was our turn.

First thing Ariana did was show Ariel her clip, which she loved. Oliver asked his usual question of where everyone was, like Flounder and Eric and Ariana went on to list everything she owns with Ariel on. When Ariana finally stopped talking they got some photos and we said goodbye.

On the way towards the Hub I saw that there was no one waiting for Merida but there was a CM outside. I went over to ask if Merida was still meeting. The CM said she had just finished, then her eyes flashed down to the GW pass and said to wait there and she disappeared. She came back within a few seconds and beckoned us in.

We had the loveliest meet all to ourselves! I’d swapped Ariana’s clip out for her Merida one and she went nuts for it! As Merida is holding her bow in the clip, she said it was a (hair) bow of a bow! Oliver told her we live near Scotland which she was very impressed with and she let him hold her bow for a photo. We thanked her, and the CM, profusely as we left, I don’t think we would have been able to see her if it wasn’t for the magic of the GW pass!

It was almost time for the parade so we got shown to the area in the hub that was roped off for wheelchair users. We took it in turns to run to the loos with the kids then sat down and waited for the parade. I hadn’t seen the FOF parade before and I was really looking forward to it but wasn’t keen on our location as I didn’t think I’d be able to get great photos of the floats and twined a little bit about it but I would soon be taking it back once the parade started. I was only us in this little area so once the parade started the kids got so much attention!
Everybody waved at them and gave them high fives, the Lost Boys recruited Oliver into their gang and the Mad Hatter told Ariana he loved her hat. I’d pinned all of Ariana’s character clips onto the string that went around her hat. Snow White spotted her clip on the front of the hat and loved it. It was the best parade experience ever, I smile just thinking about it! And I thank the Live Photo technology on the iPhone I had at the time as I was able to flick through all the frames from one snap and chose the best one, it’s a great feature and meant I didn’t miss a single wave or high 5.
Parade photo overload...

Once the hub cleared we walked through to Tomorrowland and onto Buzz. We were put in the FP queue and then taken onto a separate loading area. Ross won this round, I came second, Oliver third and Ariana fourth. But it wasn’t over yet, when we got back to the loading area we were told to stay in our seats and have another go! The third extra magical moment of the day!

Ariana managed to double her score from last round so she was very pleased with that. No Galactic Heros in our gang though.
In the gift shop Ariana picked up a Buttercup plush, Oliver got a Buzz Lightyear toy box toy and I picked up some cars for my Nephew, Jacob. I don’t have a note of how much this cost unfortunately but I do know that we had it sent to the front of the park to pick up later.

While I was sorting that out, Ross was looking at the D Tech personalised phone covers on the computers. He’d found a Jack Skellington design he liked to I told him to order it. Rather than get his name on it though he decided to get 2018 on it instead. That cost $34.07 including the $8 DVC discount and it would be available to collect later at the shop by the Town Hall.

Buzz Lightyear was out meeting people so we headed over. The CM told us to wait at the exit and we were able to go up as soon at the current family had finished. Lots of hugs and high fives all round. Buzz has been a favourite of Oliver’s since he was very little so Oliver was in his element!

Next up Oliver wanted to go on the Astro Orbiter. I was apprehensive as I remember Oliver screaming his little head off on the one in DLP but he was only 3 then and had really found his love of thrill rides this holiday so I was sure he’d be ok. And he was! So was Ariana. Another ride with the seal of approval.

The kids wanted to go on the ‘cars’ next so we went to Tomorrowland Speedway. It was mine and Ross’ first time on this one too. I was absolutely rubbish and it’s probably a good job I don’t drive at home! The kids thought it was great fun though, I enjoyed shouting at Ross to put his foot down and hurry up!

We were done with Tomorrowland for the day so we walked through to Fantasyland and straight onto the teacups! Another first for all of us, I’ve not even done the ones in DLP. We all helped to spin as fast as we could, but then had to slow down as I was worried about Oliver throwing up! He’s known to have had motion sickness in the past.

Next up was Dumbo. The queue area for that is huge! I can’t imagine it ever being full. Thankfully we only waited 10 minutes. The ride before we got on had to stop half way through as a baby was being extra squirmy and the CM was worried so he had to let the mother and baby off the ride.

Onto Goofy’s Brainstormer. Again, another first for us all. It was great to get to go on some different rides now we had the kids with us. We did miss Space Mountain and Everest a teeny tiny bit though. Hopefully next time the kids will have grown enough!

We went to the ride exit and were put straight on. It’s a really cute little rollercoaster. Way too short though. It’s a blink and you miss it ride.

Wandering around we found Gaston so we waited to see him. Again we waited at the exit and got to see him straight away. Ariana had her Belle clip in so Gaston thought that she knew Belle and asked her if she ever talks about him, Ariana gave him a firm no. He wasn’t happy!

We saw a photopass photographer with no one with him so we got some pics taken including a spooky magic shot. I love how well the kids did with the magic shots, we got some excellent ones.

Next, much to Oliver’s disgust we took them to the Princess Hall to see Rapunzel and Tiana. Oliver will pretend he hates the princesses but you couldn’t tell when he was with them, he secretly loves them. We went through the FP queue and went straight in.

I put Ariana’s Rapunzel clip on her hair band and Rapunzel said she was going to get lots or Ariana clips and put them all through her hair. As we were moving between Rapunzel and Tiana I swapped the clips over which caught Rapunzel’s eye. She asked if we had more so I showed her Ariana’s hat full of clips. She was very impressed and called over to Tiana to check them out. She got so much attention from the characters because of those clips and she loved it.

While Tiana was signing the kid’s ‘cook books’ as she called them, Oliver was asking where Naveen was and where Lou was, as he does! They were both at the restaurant.

We had time for one more ride before we could change into our costumes so we chose Peter Pan. Oliver remembered it slightly from the DLP one and Ariana loved flying.

Now it was 4pm and we could see a few other people floating around in costumes. We stopped at the Tangled toilets and got ready. Ross was already dressed for the part, he just needed his bow tie, braces and glasses. I changed Oliver’s top and added his accessories then took Ariana into the bathrooms to change her completely and change my top. A pair of ears, a tail and some eye liner pen whisker dots on my face then we were ready to explore the wilderness!

First things first was picking up our wrist bands, maps and treat bags which we did by PhillarMagic. That’s where Ariana got her first, “Kevin’s a girl?!” comment. We got a lot of those throughout the evening and we all thought it was hilarious.

While we were by PhillarMagic it would have been rude not to go in! We went in the FP lane and it was a walk on. As suspect, the kids were trying to catch the gems and pop the bubbles. And they thought Donald’s bum at the end was the funniest thing ever.

I wanted some castle photos since we didn’t have any yet so we went to main street. All the photopass people were really busy but we picked one and joined the queue. We did get to do some costume spotting while we waited though. One group were dressed as the Rugrats, they looked great.
When it was our turn we had the usual family shots then the photographer wanted to honour our costumes with a fun magic shot.

We went into Adventureland and had a general wander round, checking out other peoples costumes and we went to the treat stand down by Jungle Cruise.

We also got some photopass pics by my fave MK ride, Splash! I love the photo of me and the kids, I look fuggers in it but we all look so happy so I treasure it.

Then Ross got hangry and wanted food. The QS places round Adventureland and Frontierland weren’t good enough for him so we ended up at Caseys Corner and 6pm. It was heaving inside so I left Ross to order while the kids and I went out to find a seat. It was equally busy outside so we stood for a while waiting for a free table. Eventually someone started getting up to leave and the guy at the table next to it must have noticed me hanging around with Oliver in his chair and managed to save it for me until I got there which was lovely of him.

When Ross came out with the food I noticed he only had 3 meals. The plum had ordered his own, and the kids but forgotten to order something for me! It’s a good job portion sizes over here are so big and we managed to share between us. Well the kids and I shared, Ross doesn’t share food.

So Ross had his footlong hot dog with mac and cheese and bacon bits on top, then two pain hot dogs, all with fries and drinks. I didn’t note how much it cost unfortunately but we managed to save a few dollars by sharing I’m sure.
Now everyone was fed and watered it was time to get the party started!

We went back into Adventureland. We saw another Russell and Kevin, whose costumes were much more professional looking than ours! They did say hello though.

Pirates of the Caribbean first which was a walk on for us down the FP lane. Another hit, the kids enjoyed spotting Jack Sparrow whenever he popped up!

Next up we did a bit more trick or treating at Tortuga Tavern and Country Bear Jamboree.

I was desperate for an Oogie Boogie popcorn bucket so I went to the nearest merch stand and asked the CM there who pointed me in the direction of Liberty Square, by the stocks. While I was in the queue Oliver decided he needed the loo so Ross took him off while Ariana and I got Oogie. He was $13 and I got him filled which was £5. We started tucking in and it took all of 1 bite to realise the America likes it’s popcorn salty. Yack!

It was now that they announced the party officially started and they played a bit of spooky music which freaked Ariana out. I had to remind her that it was called a not so scary Halloween party!
When Ross came back with Oliver he said he’d seen Jafar doing meet and greets so we went back into Adventureland and stopped by a photopass to get a magic shot then went over to Jafar and got to meet him straight away then right after we walked a bit further on and met Aladdin and Abu.

I spotted another merch cart and remembered I wanted a party pin. That cart had one left so I snapped it up for $12.80 including $3 DVC discount.
Once we got home I unpacked everything and couldn’t find it anywhere, even asked on here if someone could pick another one up for me, which someone very kindly offered to do but they were sold out at the party they went to. I was even looking on Ebay for one! I was sorting out the treat cupboard which meant emptying all the carrier bags of American treats to rearrange them, then there it was! At the bottom of a Walmart bag full of chocolate! Thank goodness for my OCD need to have chocolate and sweets in two separate bags!

We all wanted to get some rides in now. I really wanted to go on Splash but was worried about getting wet, then chilly. So we went to Thunder Mountain instead. I knew the kids were going to LOVE this one since they’ve turned into such daredevils this holiday. And I wasn’t wrong, they had a blast on the wildest ride in the wilderness! I love this ride in the dark, it’s so good!

I decided that since it was fully dark now and still red hot we would be fine going on Splash. We walked on in the FP lane. Unfortunately, as you can tell, I didn’t make a note of the actual wait times on any of the rides or meet and greets so if you were looking for an accurate representation of MNSSHP, you’ve come to the wrong place!

I was a bit worried about the kids on the big drop cause it is hella steep so we both held on to them tight but as you can see from their faces that they weren’t fazed at all. Ross and Oliver got the most of the splash, Ariana and I just got a little bit wet but it didn’t take long for us to dry off.

We did another trick or treat station opposite Splash and much to the kid’s disgust we were given pouches of apple puree, not chocolate! I was pleased though, they made great ‘on the go’ snacks for Jack!
I loved all the mist over the lake, it made it look so spooky! I didn’t get very good night pics unfortunately, I had an iphone 6 at the time and it was awful for dark photos!

Now you can’t do a Halloween party and not go on the spookiest ride in Disney can you. We got to Haunted Mansion at 8:30. Ariana had another little freak out saying that it was too scary. It does look very spooky at night time but there was no way we were missing it so we were bad parents and made her go on. Dont worry, she wasn’t crying or anything, just very nervous! And this is probably the only ride she hated! Oliver loved it though.

Once we were out I really wanted the photopass with the horse and cart so we queued for that for about 10 minutes. In the queue we met a family who had the best costumes ever! The parents were Jack and Sally and the kids, who were sitting in one of those trailer things which are now banned, were Lock, Shock and Barrel. They’d turned the trailer into the bath and even made the legs of the bath look like they were walking when the wheels turned. It was absolute genius!
The photopass pics were excellent. I’ve probably said it before but I’m so proud of my kids nailing the magic shots!

Madam Leota and some guy (sorry, no idea who!) were sat on the grass outside the mansion telling a story I presume but we couldn't really hear them, you can just make them out on that last pic though.

When the photographer was scanning my magic band she noticed the GW pass and told me off for queuing! I said I thought it was just for rides and characters but she said that we shouldn’t be queuing for anything and made me promise not to do it again, bless her!
On the way out of that area I realised that we didn’t get our bands scanned after the Jafar pics so we’d have to go to the photo shop on our way out to see if they could find the pics.

Ariana needed a toilet stop so we went to the tangled toilets. I saw the latern photopass going on and I’d really wanted one for a while. The queue was huge so we went to the CM and asked if we could get a quick shot and showed her the GW pass, adding that the photopass CM at HM told us not to queue. She looked at me like I was an alien and said she’d need to check. Oh goooood we should have just queued! She returned with the actual photographer who asked what we wanted so I said again. She asked what the GW pass was so I had to explain that we were a wish family. It then all slotted into place for them, they just had no idea what the pass was! As soon as they realised they gave us the lantern and took some lovely photos.

By now it was nearly time for the parade. Unfortunately all of the disabled sections at the hub were full so we ended up right at the very end of the parade route by the fire station. I wasn’t overly pleased but never mind, serves us right for leaving it so late!
I’d told the kids so many times how amazing this parade was and I was so excited for it. I love the song it’s so catchy!
While we were waiting for it to start we got a few photopass pics with the Boo to You sign and the NBC sign.

The bells chimed and the headless horseman was announced so of course Ariana started freaking out bless her. She really didn’t like him when he eventually reached us but then the Zootopia gang arrived and gave them lollypops so all fear was forgotten!
Again, my photos are rubbish but the kids really enjoyed it, not as much as me though. I was having a ball singing along! One of the pirates shouted ‘oh my gosh, Kevin’s a girl’ at Ariana which made her laugh.

Once it was over I went to the Town Hall shop to swap my Power Bar and then we headed up main street to watch Hallowishes. I’ve written ‘firewishes’ in my notes, good job I know what I mean! We got in the wheelchair section to the left of the fountain in the hub area. Ross decided we needed to pop our Dole Whip cherry so he went off to Sunshine Tree Terrace to get one and came back just before the fireworks started. It was very refreshing it the heat of the night. I couldn’t believe how hot it was still. Ross said he’d seen Jane and Terk and Jack Sparrow doing greets in Adventureland so we agreed to go off and find them after the fireworks.

Oliver’s not a huge fan of fireworks. At home he has a pair of ear defenders and he wasn’t happy when he found out we hadn’t brought them with us but he just covered his ears instead.

I will admit I wasn’t blown away. I wasn’t blown away on our honeymoon but I thought that it was just because we were at the dessert party and didn’t have a good view but I was the same this time round. I think it’s just no comparison to normal Wishes and honestly, if we do MNSSHP again, I wouldn’t stand and watch them, I’d get another ride in or a meet and greet while it was quiet. The kids were blown away though, they’ve never seen fireworks on such a grand scale before.

We hot footed it back to Adventureland and Ross took us to where he’d seen Jane and Terk. The CM with them asked the family who were next in the queue if they minded waiting to let a wish family go first. Usually we are far enough away from the next families we can’t hear the conversation but we were right next to them this time and they were so lovely and were happy for us to cut in front.
There wasn’t a photopass with them so you will have to make do with a rubbish photo from my phone.

Next up was Jack Sparrow. He was absolutely hilarious and perfectly in character. He said he presumed Ariana was some type of weird bird creature. The kids tried explaining to him who they were and all about the film but Jack simply said ‘What’s a film?’. He asked Oliver is Ariana pecks him a lot which Oliver found hilarious. I treated Jack to the greatest pirate joke there is, actually just the greatest joke in general... Why are pirates called pirates? Because the aaaarrrggghhh. Yep, I am available for bookings.

As we were walking away from him the little boy who was next in line was dressed as Captain America and he was busy admiring Oliver’s wheels. Jack came over and said he would try to be a hero and retrieve the Captain’s shield for him as captain’s must stick together.

We made our way over to where Jack and Sally did their meet and greet on our honeymoon but there was no sign so we asked a CM who said they were meeting in the Town Hall now.

On our way down Main Street we stopped for a few photopass pics then made our way to the Town Hall.

The CM told us it was a 90 minute wait but then spotted the GW pass and took us to the exit door and allowed us to go in straight away. I think this was the best meet we had all holiday.
Ross and I stood back and let the kids go. Jack was admiring Oliver’s sash as said ‘Oh Sally look, he’s got all of his scare badges. Aww and this one is for setting things on fire’. Ariana told Sally that she get’s worried when her limbs fall off in the film so Sally reassured her that it doesn’t hurt and then Jack told them a story about the time he came home and Sally had legs for arms and arms for legs and he had to rearrange her but they couldn’t find her pinkie for hours. The kids hung on their every word.
Oliver told Jack how our baby Jack was named after him. Jack said ‘After me? Oh my. Tell me, is he a little monster?’ Oliver said he was, ‘Oh I’m so proud’.
They had some pics then the grown ups joined them.

I think the kids were on cloud nine after that meet.

I’m fairly sure we could have carried on but Ross was ready to call it a night (party pooper) so we collected the shopping and Ross’ new phone cover and managed to get the Jafar photos from the photopass shop by giving them the time on the Aladdin pics and telling them it was about 5 mins before.

We left the park at 23:15. I’m disappointed we didn’t get more done. We spent most of our time in Adventureland and Frontierland, I’d have liked to explore a little more but there’s so much to do you can’t do it all!

We got one last photopass outside the park with the headless horseman.

I had no idea where Uber collected from so we got the bus to the Yacht Club so we could order an Uber from there. On the bus I was thinking about the plans for the next two days and had an awful thought. Tomorrow was our only chance to do Jedi Training, meaning we’d probably need to get the DHS for rope drop. The kids were going to be knackered! I ran it by Oliver and he was fine with is as he really wanted to do the training. It was the reason he wished to go to Disney World after all!

The kids fell asleep in the Uber and we arrived back at GKTW at 12:30. Straight to bed for everyone after what was pretty much the best day ever!

Oliver is such a happy little soul, so brave, you must be so proud of him.

Loved reading about Ariana’s reactions to the Castle and BOG, what a little Princess.

This really sounds like the most incredible day with the most magical of character meets.

Your costumes are fab! What a great day you had, I am very impressed with how long you lasted.
