HEY MICKEY YOU'RE SO FINE,YOU'RE SO FINE YOU BLOW MY..MONEY. MAY 2019 Day 7: IOA and Citywalk

HEY MICKEY YOU'RE SO FINE,YOU'RE SO FINE YOU BLOW MY..MONEY. MAY 2019 Index

I think we all had a pretty good sleep all up feeling refreshed this morning. I was still up fairly early though still. I made use of the lovely shower that we had in our room. We were all dressed and ready without any major incidents High is an achievement in itself.

The plan was for the whole day at Islands Of Adventure. Both parks were due to close earlier today because of the Grad Bash event taking place in the parks. These events happen every friday throughout May. Because the parks were closing early it meant that they would open earlier instead. Universal Studios had early entry at 7am. We didn't feel the need for that and were happy with our 8am start at IOA.

We were out the door at 7.30am to begin the walk over to the park. The girls started to squabble on the way which was again a tad annoying. The walk was nice as it wasn't yet baking hot. That would soon change though with the weather again predicted to be baking hot. Bag check was really quick and easy and in no time we were on the bridge heading into IOA.

Evie was once again in a no photo frame of mind and was refusing to participate in any of the photos of us outside the entrance much to the annoyance of Kelly.

I managed to grab one though.

There were already a few people waiting to get in so I did the line lottery and picked a line. I picked the winning line. The line for the slowest line possible with a non english speaking family that clearly had ticket issues. It felt like roughly 100000 people entered before we finally got in much to my annoyance.

The plan once we eventually got in was to head to Hogsmede. My little toe was pretty painful when I was walking but I managed to ignore it like the brave little boy that I am. Pretty soon we were in Hogsmede.

The new Hagrid ride was all boarded up. We were missing it by 3 weeks. It would have been nice to give it a go but it would have made everything so much busier. We did the obligatory photos before heading into Forbidden Journey. Hogsmede was very quiet.

We managed to get a locker fairly promptly before joining the ride. Last time, like Escape From Gringotts, Forbidden Journey wasn't express pass so it was good to have this now and we were soon on the ride. The queue on this ride though is probably the trickiest line for Evie to navigate(along with King Kong) so we carefully made our way through. I tried to take some photos but they turned out really bad as always.

We enjoyed the ride but I think we all prefer the Gringotts ride. This ride always makes me and Kelly a little nauseous though!

We collected our stuff from the lockers before heading into the shop. I went and scanned our photopass for the ride photo. I forgot to mention for day 6 I collected our photopass card from the shop at the start of Universal Studios. I got the special Mardi Gras annual pass deal for $59 a few months before we came. This allowed us to utilise all our days at Universal plus get a poster and two prints. It's a good deal but we didn't end up with loads of photos.

We only spent a minute or two in the shop which was some kind of record for us. We moved onto the Flight Of The Hippogryff ride next. The girls always enjoy this ride. Kelly and I rode once with the girls but then we allowed them to go on again by themselves which they enjoyed. They also got to ride this at the front and there was no one else on the ride with them which they enjoyed.

We took some more photos around Hogsmede. I confess to much preferring this area to Diagon Alley which I find much busier. I think that this will change with the adding of the new Hagride ride though. We had a look in the shops avoiding Ollivanders. The girls have bought wands on the last two trips and they are gathering dust somewhere. Lily was delivered a short sharp no when she asked about getting one!

Honeydukes was completely empty which was a little eerie. We didn't end up buying anything here.

The girls and Kelly were a little hungry so we ended getting a couple of croissants for Kelly and Lily and a fruit pot for Evie. I bought these using snack credits from our dining plan.

We then decided to move on to the rest of the park leaving Hogsmede via the Jurassic Park area. This all looked very different with construction areas for a rumoured new Jurassic Park Rollercoaster. We did the photos with the T-Rex while passing somehow managing to persuade Evie to join in.

We walked past Burger Digs which we all decided we'd return to later for lunch. I had my refill cup with me yet I could't seem to get it activated anywhere which was really annoying. Most of the shops and booths were closed. I was desperate for a drink so I wasn't best pleased!

Next it was on to King Kong. We enjoyed this last time but we weren't blown away by it. If we didn't have express passes then its doubtful we would have gone on. Evie didn't like it but I think that was more down to the dark getting on to the ride. So we went on again not expecting much. The express pass line was pretty long which Evie enjoyed expressing her opinion about! Once on we enjoyed the ride. I think we all thought it was much better than we remembered so it was deemed a success. I still don't think Evie likes it though.

I managed to find somewhere just past the Kong ride to get my refill cup activated for the day thankfully.

We had decided earlier that we wouldn't be doing the parks three water rides until we had lunch so we bypassed the two in Toon Land having done the same with the Jurassic Park River Ride. Evie was being really argumentative through here for some reason. I can't remember why. They all congeal into one memory but I'm guessing it was to do with either clothes or getting wet but she was actually posing for photos to be fair to her.

We were soon at our next port of call at Spider-Man. This is an absolute family favourite ride and something we all look forward to a lot. We all loved it as normal so we went straight back on to ride it again.

I took my leave to go and ride Hulk. I love Hulk. I made sure I didn't have anything with me as this ride is very strict. I left all my things and the bag with Kelly. I said I might be a little while as the express pass isn't amazing on this. I went through the metal detector and got beeped. It was my belt thankfully and I was now soon in the queue. It took about 10 minutes once inside which wasn't too bad. On our last trip I was the first one on the ride that day and got front row with the whole ride to myself. It's pretty hard to top that. I still enjoyed the ride though but the older I get the more I find it painful!

The girls and Kelly had gotten lucky when I was on Hulk. They did a meet and greet with Spider-Man. They said it was completely empty and Spider-Man was desperate for someone to come in!

I wanted to go on Dr Doom. I asked Kelly to take the bags. She said yes but her eyes told a different story. We had a little argument and I didn't go on.

The girls got some more snacks. They both got Aunties Pretzels. Lily had a plain one and Evie had a cinnamon one. Both snack credits.

We also get a drink with the dining plan so we grabbed a large Powerade. I love these but dread to think how bad they are for you!

We had a look in the Marvel shop where Lily bought herself a Captain America Shield water bottle. Lily has just discovered Marvel and Captain America is her favourite.

Once out of the shop we saw the Captain himself was doing a meet and greet. As luck would have it they announced as soon as we had joined the line he'd be taking a break but would be returning soon. We decided to go and ride Spider-Man again instead as with express passes why not!

As soon as we came out I saw the line was short for the returned Captain America so I like a Captain myself sprinted ahead to get a spot for Lily. Evie of course showed no interest in seeing him but jumped in at the last minute for a photo much to the annoyance of Lily. The Captain was really good with the girls.

So we headed from here back towards Jurassic Park to get some eats. We decided to run on to Kong again as we were passing as again we could. We again really enjoyed the ride but was nearly ruined by Lily crying as she got off the ride as she needed the toilet. We did the Hotstepper again(passing the Lyrical Gangster) to find her one before we headed off for lunch.

For lunch in keeping with the aim of new eateries we decided on Burger Digs situated in the Jurassic Park area of Islands Of Adventure. I’d be using the dining plan again.

It was a fairly big queue inside but nothing too bad. All combo meals included a milkshake. We chose two chocolate and two vanilla. These were nice but to be honest more like ice cream and it was easier with a spoon.

Kelly and the girls both had bacon cheeseburgers served with fries. They all enjoyed them.

I had a bbq burger which included Gouda cheese and mango bbq sauce and served with fries. This was pretty good.

Kelly also had a warm apple pie which was a snack credit on the the dining plan. It was good although to me it looked like a pukka Pie from a chip shop

Overall not a bad q/s meal.

After lunch we had a set plan of the three water rides. This collection of three rides is possibly my three favourite rides to do in a row. I love this next hour. The only concern was how Evie was going to react when(not if)she got wet. Evie and Kelly decided to don ponchos for the first ride which was the Jurassic Park River Ride. They were christened "Poncho Losers". The lady in the queue behind us was quietly chuckling at this. We really enjoyed it and yes me and Lily got soaked but the "Poncho Losers" got wet bums! Evie wasn't too moaney, yet!

Next on to Dudley Do Rights Ripsaw Falls, this is my personal favourite and the best log boat ride in history.

We all loved it! We got every inch that could possibly get wet did! I would have been drier if I'd jumped in the water and dived under the water. It was so good though. Evie got a little bit wet on her legs but was acting as though she had been drenched.

Next onto Bluto's Bilge Rat Barges. This comes a close second to Dudley Do Right in terms of greatness and wetness. No way we could get any wetter but we somehow did! Me and Kelly on the ride were secretly praying that Evie didn't go headfirst under the waterfall(your reading this knowing exactly what comes next) but of course she did! We loved the ride but the Kraken had well and truly been unleashed in the form of Evie afterwards. I held back to escape her wrath by grabbing Lily and going back on again. Poor Kelly We loved it again but we got stuck with a noisy school group. They were trying to shut the waterproof lid on their stuff as were leaving and got told to sit down. I was delighted when their stuff got soaked.

We returned to an unbearable Evie. Kelly managed to get her into some dry clothes but off course they were the wrong clothes!

We decided at this point that we'd done what we wanted to do today so we headed towards the exit. Me and Lily walking ahead of the Kraken. I risked her wrath again by daring to stop to get us some drinks with our drink credits. I just grabbed a selection we could keep in our room fridge.

Kelly and Lily went in the shops while Evie and I went to guest services to ask about a Ride Access Pass for when we come back to Universal later in the holiday. As explained earlier, a lot of the ride queues are very dark and disorientating for Evie. We got one but I felt like we were questioned a little bit too much and Evie hated it. Due to another issue(coming tomorrow) I felt I had to complain to Universal about this and the upcoming incident.

Once done we headed out and down the path back to the hotel. We'd had a pretty good day!

Evie wanted to go swimming(it's confusing I know as she hates getting wet on rides). This was our only chance to go to the pool here so I was happy to take the girls while Kelly chilled in the room. I took the chance to put all the still soaked clothes I was wearing on a sunbed to dry off. We had a good hour or so there. It's a nice pool area and we enjoyed it.

I had a good sunbathe on a bed while keeping an eye on the girls. I got slightly miffed by a couple who appeared to be on a first date drinking cocktails roughly a foot away from me which was really annoying. Kelly came down for a little bit before we went back to the room.

Evie was moaning about being bored so Kelly took her to the little shop. They came back soon after moaning about the cost of the snacks they bought.

We walked down to Citywalk for dinner.

I had booked Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville but once there and after being told we had to wait ages we decided to go elsewhere.

After a brief discussion we headed to NBC Sports Grill and Brew to check out the menu.

The theme wasn’t to the ladies liking but the menu looked good so we decided to try it. We were told a 15 minute wait. After 30 I had to ask. They told me they texted me 20 minutes earlier. I never received the text. I could feel the daggers from Evie’s eyes in my back. Like it was my fault! Hey ho. We were shown to a table with no issue.

Were skipped un needed appetisers and just went for mains.

Lily went for sliders and tata tots which she enjoyed.

Kelly and Evie both went for the NBC patty melt. This was a grilled cheese with beef patty, brisket and onions. Both ladies loved this.

I went for 12 Chicken Wings. I chose traditional with buffalo sauce. I got fries as a side. These were ok. Not enough sauce or hot enough though(flavour wise).

No desserts for us as we had other plans.

Overall not bad and we’d probably go again

It was $90 with tip and drinks

Once we done we had a little look in the shops. Lily liked Piq but didn't buy anything. Lots of weird things in there.

We had skipped dessert so we decided against Voodoo Donuts After dinner we decided on an ice cream rather than voodoo donuts and went to Coldstone Creamery instead.

It was surprisingly quiet inside.

We all went medium sized which was too big. When will we learn that small size in America isn’t small!

We all created our own.

Kelly, Evie and I all had mint with different topping ranging from chocolate fudge, m&m’s and gummy bears etc.

Lily had a strawberry one but I forget what topping she had.

These were all good but we got way too much.

We finished the evening with a few photos around Citywalk before heading back to our hotel.

On the walk back there was a baby snake on the path. This terrified the girls. Such babies!

We were soon back in all in bed. A very good day!

Thanks for reading.

George
