Hi Karon ... long time no see she's not veggie as such, just prefers veggie meals. I've had a look at the menu and she could actually have a few of the sides as her meal. Thanks

Can I asked if any of them had a smoked/bbq flavour please as it's something I'm really not a fan of so it's putting me off trying there.

Day 3 - KeKe’s and Sassagula Floatworks

Hi everyone,

We have just had lunch in the hotel quick service as we are spending our mid morning and afternoon around the pool before our night in Animal Kingdom tonight.

Since it took me an hour to update this morning I thought I would do a part 1 and 2 today whilst I have the time.

I ate half of my leftover cookie from last night and DH ate the other half. I think the ice cream a made it kind of gooey. It hit the spot!

We took our leisurely time getting ready this morning and drove to KeKe’s Breakfast Cafe in Hunters Creek.

It was busy but we arrived after 9am, there were quite a few big families in there. We had one of the last tables which was actually for 6 people. Seemed a bit of a waste for just the two of us but we were
glad to be seated.

We ordered an orange juice and a hot breakfast tea.

The orange juice was huge and it was really refreshing.

I had seen KeKe’s on Instagram and Facebook as lots of people post photos of the Florida pancakes.. this is what I had in mind when choosing to visit.

Here’s the menu -

Here’s a close up of the waffle and pancake option for those interested -

DH ordered the two egg combo which came with breakfast potatoes and toast. He ordered sausage to come with it as a side order, which was 4 small links.

I ordered the Florida pancakes which came with banana, strawberries, blueberries and powdered sugar. The waitress said the pancakes where very large and the standard order was 3 so suggested I I get 1 or 2... I went for 2n($1 was knocked off the menu for this).

The portion was huge, and I didn’t eat it all.. I left half of one of the pancakes and by the time I was getting towards the end the banana was starting to turn brown. Luckily (for me) there weren’t very many blueberries as they are not my favourite. They were very generous though with the banana and strawberries which both tasted really fresh.

I enjoyed the pancakes but they weren’t as nice as yesterday’s as Cracker Barrel and the atmosphere in the place wasn’t as good either.

The bill came to £29.77 and we left $35.

Next up we headed to Celebration to check out the farmers market. We found a spot easily enough and had a walk around admiring what a beautiful place it must be to live and work.

We soon found the farmers easily enough, and there were around 20 stalls. There was a mixture of fruit and veg stalls, jewellery, baked goods, guacamole and plant stalls. I definitely wouldn’t visit Celebration just for the farmers market as it wouldn’t be worth it (in my opinion), but it’s somewhere I always wanted to visit so I’m glad we went.

We got back to the hotel around 11.15am and decided rather than head to Disney Springs for lunch then come back to the pool we would spend the rest of the morning and afternoon around the pool and eat in the hotel.

It was difficult to try and find two loungers, and there were none in the shade when we came down. I guess that’s the disadvantage of staying in a small resort with only one pool. We did find two together in the end and went for a dip in the pool before lazing on the lounger.

We have just got back to the loungers after having lunch in the food court.

There was quite a good selection of food -

After receiving two recommendations for it, I knew I wanted to try the voodoo chicken sandwich, and DH chose the French Quarter House salad with shrimp.

Since we both had our refillable mugs with us we asked if we could swap out the drinks for desserts - this was no problem at all. We have both been having the desani falvoured water, DH with lime and me with strawberry. They are really refreshing.

I chose the beignets and DH had an ice cream and she wrote on our receipt that we could return for them later.

I really enjoyed the chicken sandwich. It was a piece of chicken with mushrooms, onions and melted cheese on a brioche bun. It came with steak cut thick chips and a spicy tomato sauce. It was really good and I’m glad I got it. Love that you can pick up tips like this from the Dibb so thank you

DH said he salad was crisp fresh (not limp at all) and enjoyed the shrimp (he thought that there were about 10 in there). He left quite a few of the cornbread croutons.

I went up to collect the desserts and also asked for a caramel dipping sauce for my beignets. When I took it to the till and explained I just wanted to pay for the sauce, she said have a great day and waved me on. That was kind of her as the little pot was $1.99 (I was going to pay oop for this).

I don’t know what it is, whether my taste buds have changed since doing weight watchers, but I did not enjoy the beignets I remember last time loving them, raving about them and devouring a whole portion to myself, but not this time. The ones I had were cooked and powdered freshly in front of me so it wasn’t that they had been standing for a while, but I just found them to be bland and tasteless. I ate one and left the other two. I really hate waste and perhaps if I wasn’t on the plan and had paid for them oop I may have been inclined to force myself to eat them, but I didn’t (and now I’m glad I didn’t despite the waste).

DH said his vanilla ice cream was watery and not very creamy.

Overall not a very good use of two quick service credits (compared to Polite Pig yesterday for example) but I’m glad that I got to try the Voodoo sandwich and at some point I would have used a snack credit on the beignets, but I won’t be getting them again now.

We have had a couple of short but sharp rain showers whilst we have been sitting around the pool, but nothing we haven’t been able to shelter from. It’s been nice to relax on the loungers and I don’t feel guilty about not being in the parks 24/7
as we have fastpasses for the things I really want to do and I know DH enjoys the time away from the parks as much as I enjoy the time in them.

We have fastpasses at Animal Kingdom starting at 5.20pm and the plan is to eat at either Yak and Yeti quick service or Satuli Canteen.

Quick service balance - 32 - credits used 2 - new balance - 30.

I’ll hopefully be able to update our part two later when we get home tonight from Animal Kingdom

Thanks for reading!

I’m so glad you enjoyed the voodoo chicken sandwich 😊😊😊definitely the best thing I had at the QS there ... wasn’t overly impressed with any of the other stuff.

Enjoying so far.

I said the same in my report that the pancakes were nicer in Cracker Barrel than Keke’s. I feared for my safety after writing that so I’m pleased you’ve said the same

Looking forward to reading more.

I thought I would update my day so far whilst we are sitting around the pool.

I woke up a couple of times in the night, wrote up part 2 of yesterday’s report, and eventually managed to get to sleep waking up at 5am.

I bought some Yorkshire tea from home so DH made himself a drink in the room and I finished my lemonade whilst getting ready.

We had quite a wait for the bus but we arrived in Magic Kingdom around 7.45am.

We had some photopasses before heading into Main Street Bakery to spend our first snack credits.

I had a butter croissant and a strawberry açai refresher and DH had a cinnamon swirl bun and a latte.

We were going to pick three items each and use a quick service credit but when it came to choosing we weren’t struck on a third item each so just used the snack credits instead.

4 snack credits used.

We came out of the bakery and turned left and were sat on our own for a good few minutes on some small tables and chairs. It was very picturesque...

We had a wander around the shops along Main Street and rode several rides including the carousel, mine train (which was only a 20 minute wait), buzz lightyear (where I scored a measly 1200! ), people mover, jungle cruise and big thunder mountain.

I’d heard good things about Big Top Treats so we had a wander in and picked up a lime and lemonade slushy. This was really refreshing, although it did keep freezing up. Had we sat in the sun for 5 minutes it would have melted enough.

1 snack credit used.

Notice my re-usable straw - we found these really handy today as the paper straws just disintegrate into nothing. We wash it out in the water fountains and I have some sandwich bags in my rucksack to put them in. A pack of 8 was $9.99 plus tax.

The park wasn’t too busy today (maybe because it’s MNSSHP tonight!) and it hasn’t been too hot either.. although we did stop to get a pineapple dole whip and a pineapple and vanilla swirl cup.

2 snack credits used.

The pineapple was tangier than I remember, but we enjoyed these sitting in the shade in the exit area of Tiki Room.

For lunch we headed to Pecos Bills before leaving Magic Kingdom. We both had the same here fajita platter and a sprite. The cost should have been $40 but we used 2 quick service credits.

We thought that the toppings bar wasn’t as good here as it used to be. We seem to remember a greater choice such as pickles, but it was just salad, sour cream, cheese and salsa.

There was two types of chicken - diced and shredded chicken with rice, beans, onions and 3 mini wraps.

It was nice but I think we remember it being better?

We arrived back at the hotel around 1pm and our room hasn’t been cleaned yet. Interestingly we weren’t given the option yesterday of opting out of mousekeeping. We wouldn’t have chosen it anyway, but I thought we would be asked.

I’ve picked up some souvenirs already with our $200 gift card and we have $85 left hopefully enough for a spirit jersey.

We are going to have an hour or two by the pool now (we have our refillable mugs with Minute Maid lemonade in them) and hopefully our room will have been cleaned by the time we go back up. Then we are going to pop to Walmart, the outlets on International Drive and Teak neighbourhood grill for tea. I’ll update that section later tonight (hopefully).

Quick service credits - 38 - 2 used - new balance 36

Snack credits - 40 - 7 used - new balance 33.

Thanks for reading along everyone!
Yes, I remember the toppings bar being quite varied, so it sounds like it's definitely changed for the worse
Was the chicken that came with the platters smokey/BBQ/chipotle flavoured in any way? Was there any difference between the diced and shredded chicken too?

The shredded chicken definitely had more of a spicy taste to it, DH said it was peppery. The diced chicken was plainer, I don’t think it tasted smoked, bbq or chipotle really, it had very little spice/flavour to it.

Hope that helps!

Day 3 part 2 - Animal Kingdom

Hello from the Rivers of Light fastpass seating area. It’s 7.55pm and the show starts at &.-5pm so I’m hoping I can update this short section before it starts.

The Disney buses were ridiculous today, it took us over an hour from leaving our room to get to Animal Kingdom. We waited half an hour or
so for the bus, then when it pulled in then went to around to Riverside and two mobility scooters came onto the bus. Luckily we made it in time for our flight of passage fastpass. I absolutely loved the ride but DH felt a little motion sickness.

After riding we decided upon Satuli Canteen for tea.

DH chose the garlic shrimp, noodles and onion glaze, and I asked for an adult portion of the cheeseburger pods which came with slaw and potato chips. DH had the organic blonde ale and I had the Pandorian sunrise. I also used a snack credit to get the blueberry cream cheese mouse.

We didn’t wait long to be served or for our food and despite there being a rain shower outside, it wasn’t too busy inside the seating area and we found a spot for two easily.

I loved my drink, it was refreshing and whilst I was dubious about the melon Powerade i really liked it. DH also enjoyed his beer, it was pretty big!

DH enjoyed his shrimp, although he said it was very garlicky, perhaps a little too much. He said it didn’t need to be that strong a flavour and rated it 7/10.

When I first bit into my cheeseburger pod it tasted kind of artificial. After chewing it I could see why people describe it as being a similar taste to a McDonalds cheeseburger. My first pod was quite enjoyable, however, the second one the meat was quite chewy and clumpy. I didn’t really get the slaw and potato chip combination, and the slaw definitely wasn’t as good as we had in Polite Pig.

I’m glad that I tried the cheeseburger pods but I won’t have them again. In fact we probably won’t return to Satuli Canteen and will opt for Yak and Yeti next time.

The first couple of mouthfuls of the mousse was enjoyable, however, DH didn’t want any of it so I ended up eating the majority of it and it quickly became far too sweet. Again I’m glad I tried it but I wouldn’t have it again.

Overall it’s been a bit of a disappointing food day. Hopefully tomorrow will make up for it, we are going to Epcot in the morning until lunch time then it will be back to the hotel pool and back to Epcot tomorrow evening for Food and Wine.

We probably won’t eat anything else tonight, but if we do I will update it tomorrow.

Thanks for reading

The garlic noodle dish looks great. We both love garlic so I think it could be a hit for us.

I always think the blueberry mousse looks interesting. Does it have a strong blueberry taste?

Yes I definitely think you would enjoy the noodles if you like lots of garlic.

I’d have to say that the mousse didn’t taste very much like blueberry.. it was overwhelmingly sweet really. A good item for an Instagram picture but not so great to eat!
