$9 for a hot dog :o wow!
The Nomad lounge looks so nice if a little busy. How lucky you were to snag a few more FP's for FOP! X

Day 7: Woodys lunchbox breakfast and Rose’s All American Cafe snack
We wanted to have an early start in HS today but we overslept and arrived pretty much the same time as everyone else. We had a 10am Slinky Dog Dash FP booked, hadn’t eaten so we went to Toy Story land first and had breakfast at Woodys Lunchbox.
At first we thought we would not get a table as it seemed so crowded, but this is not a particularly shaded or comfortable area so the tables turn over quickly and we soon had a table. We decided to order the smoked turkey breakfast sandwich to share along with a Diet Coke which is a strange breakfast beverage but we didn’t fancy anything else. Later on we decided for a snack between rides and ordered some fries, a raspberry lemonade slushie for Nev and a regular lemonade for me. We loved breakfast at Woodys in Toy Story Land. Yes it seemed really busy but it was ok in the end and was delicious. Not much to say about the next eatery, it was bog standard park fare, although the slushy was delightful. Edited at 12:52 PM. |

Claudette if you go back to Woodys I highly recommend the grown up lemonade. You have to order it on the app/mobile ordering. It’s got cherry vodka in it. 😋

Day 7: Hollywood Brown Derby dinner
The original plan for today involved park hopping, but it was too hot to expend energy in transit. We decided to spend the whole day in HS instead and made a last minute booking at the Hollywood Brown Derby for dinner.
Our reservation was for 6pm, we turned up at 5:30pm wondering if there was anywhere to get a drink and some sun shelter, but there was only outside which didn’t help much. We were called to our table at about ten to six. The restaurant was packed out and remained so the whole time we were there. We did not see our waiter for about five to ten minutes after arriving and when we did he wanted to know our whole order rather than just sorting the drinks. I ordered the scallops to start with a main of chicken breast and polenta, Nev opted for a tuna starter with the “Ginger-lemon grass pho” for main, a dish that looked oddly out of place on this menu. We also ordered a bottle of sauvignon. Mindful of other signature dining experiences, I specifically mentioned to our waiter that we liked to take our time and wanted a gap between courses. Our waiter thanked us for letting him know and said he would not put the main order through until we were ready. Here are our dishes, starting with the bread. It is no exaggeration to say that within one minute of placing our order, and explaining our feelings on being rushed, that two people, not our servers, turned up and slammed the starters down without a word. One minute. We were utterly dumbfounded and stared at each other and the dishes in disbelief. Our wine hadn’t even turned up yet, obviously there is a food production line. We finally picked up our cutlery to start when our server arrived with the wine and bread basket. We told him we could not believe how quickly the starters came out, before the wine and bread, he said he was very surprised too. He then said he could take them away, we agreed and said we would want freshly made replacements. About ten minutes later we received starters for the second time and we believe they were fresh. Mine was delicious, perfectly cooked scallops and the corn complimented them beautifully, the fish fritter was flabby and had no place on the plate, but it didn’t spoil the meal. Nev also really enjoyed his tuna dish, it was very, very spicy though. Our sever ensured we had a good gap between courses, checking we were ready before he triggered the mains. Unfortunately when the meals arrived, Nev was brought pork rather than the Pho he ordered. So they took his back and then whipped mine away too, just as I was about to tuck in. The replacement took a little longer than we had expected, considering the apparent production line processes. My replacement didn’t look quite as nice as the original, the polenta looked lumpier and the plate was cold, whereas the first plate had been warm. Nevertheless, we both thought he food was very good. The chicken, polenta and sauce were all very enjoyable although the vegetables were a bit too hard. Nev was positive about his dish too, especially the tofu spring rolls (he rarely does vegetarian so this is high accolade). In summary, the food was great, the service had issues but these were rectified and we think we had a good server. However we agree this is a once done and we won’t go back. The reason? The ambience is not for us, it was massively busy the whole time and felt very canteen like. I think we prefer a quieter, more adult atmosphere for signature dining, this maybe means we need to stick to resort signature dining. I also noted that some tables had table cloths and others didn’t and felt aggrieved we were not table cloth worthy. Edited at 10:09 AM. |

I would like to go back for lunch or dinner so I will bear that in mind.
I guess the main thing is that we came away thinking that we had a tasty meal. And the server was actually really good and it wasn’t his fault the starters initially came out so quickly. |

Great, well-rounded review of the brown derby, thank you. I’m not sure it would be for us and I think your review has cemented that. The scallops did look good though.

Haha we did a beer tasting in the Wave and had the IPA history story from the bar tender. Though to be fair he was a good storyteller
Hollywood Brown Derby is a strange place. We’ve had great food but strange service (timing issues mostly so your review resonates!) but it is so loud in the main room. I do really like the outside bar area for people watching, cocktails and snacks though

Really disappointing to hear that your case was poorly handed by bell services. I think this is a risk you take with hard shell cases with airlines but I expect them to be handled more carefully when just being moved between resorts! Pleased to hear concierge have (hopefully) dealt with this well.
Glad to know you got your upgraded Magic Bands without any trouble. I think you did the right thing cancelling your breakfast ADRs, certainly they’d have been a nice change from the Club offerings but no need to pay for breakfast twice! Nomad looks great, being OOP is a great excuse to try out plenty of lounge offerings, I keep seeing yuca fries popping up places and I am interested to try them. My shackles were raised at the start to your meal at HBD but glad to hear you let the server know how you would like things paced and he sorted out the starter issue. The scallops look lovely as does Nev’s main. Very odd regarding the lack of tables cloth! |
