Day 4 - EPCOT, Typhoon Lagoon & EPCOT

We have packed so much into today it’s hard to remember where it started!

We decided to try the quick service in our hotel for breakfast. I slept in longer this morning and didn’t wake up until 6.45am. We were down in the quick service just before 8am.

I thought that there was quite a lot of choice...

DH chose the big easy breakfast with scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes and buttermilk biscuits.

He enjoyed this and said it was on par with his breakfast at KeKe’s.

I chose the berry pankcakes. This came with bacon and sausage. I asked for no bacon and just had the sausage, which I gave to DH. I should have also got the bacon and gave him that too.

We both had OJ with our breakfast. I asked for my berries in the side.

I was surprised at the size of the pancakes and the fact there were 3 of them. If you wanted to save credits or you were paying oop two people could have easily shared this- I left a whole one. The pancakes were light and fluffy, I enjoyed them.

We caught the bus to EPCOT riding Soarin and living with the land. We queued for test track but had to evacuate half way through and it didn’t open up again whilst we were there this morning.

We have been filling up our metal water bottle with desani and bringing it with us which has been a god send as it keeps the water really cold. However, I’d seen the American Dream slushy drink and really wanted to try it so we headed into world showcase just as it opened at 11am.

When we got to the counter she said the red slush was out of order so it was just the blue one with the vanilla ice cream.

I don’t know why but I hadn’t realised that the Fanta would be fizzy. It was very sweet so much so that DH took a few sips and declared it not for him. Once it had mixed with the vanilla ice cream it was much better. I actually found it quite refreshing.

Next up we stopped at Japan for a teriyaki steamed bun. This was absolutely delicious. It was a strong teriyaki taste, and the bun was soft but not too doughy. We shared this and had probably about 3 or 4 bites each. Definitely one we wound get again.

We decided on an early lunch and I had heard good things about the chicken cutlet curry from the quick service in Japan so that’s what we had.

We both decided to have the same the cutlet curry and DH had the superdry beer and I had the strawberry and banana cocktail.

DH said his beer was crisp and light. He didn’t enjoy his curry too much saying it tasted like thick chip shop curry! I didn’t mind mine and it was nice to have sometime with some spice/taste.

It had potato’s and carrot in the sauce and tiny chunks of beef. It was a huge portion of rice, too much for the dish really.

I picked up some hi-chews on the way out of Japan from the shop. We bought these in 2016 after seeing them in a vlog and they are really good. I need to check the date on them but I may save them for Christmas.

We fancied sometime sweet afterwards to headed for the ice cream parlour.

You could have one scoop in a cone or a cup for a snack credit.

DH chose the yoghurt and blueberry and I had the mint choc chip.

DH’s was creamy and mine didn’t have a strong mint taste, but it was nice. Despite only having one scoop they were very generous scoops and really hit the spot.

We decided to leave Epcot now and head to Typhoon Lagoon to cool off. It’s been very hot today!

We left Epcot at 12.40 and by 1.50pm we were waking into Typhoon Lagoon.

We didn’t do any rides but we did do a lap of the lazy river, had a swim in the main pool avoiding the waves and sat on the edge in some low seats.

Whilst we were there we spent a snack credit on a lemonade slushy. It came with a spoon and was really refreshing.

I didn’t have my phone with me to take a photo but I found this from Disney Food blog and it looks pretty similar.

When we got back to the room we had a couple of hours rest on the bed which was lovely. I think the early mornings have caught up with me and I had a headache (which soon cleared once I’d taken a couple of ibuprofen).

Tonight we headed back to Epcot for the food and wine festival. We didn’t do any rides but just headed straight for the World Showcase going anti clockwise.

I made some notes on my phone when we were trying each item so I’m going to copy and paste them in now so they will look like a different format to my usual write up...

Flavours from fire - 1 QS credit used for 3 items. The smell from the BBQ attracted us to this area.

Burger - tender meat, chargrilled taste, bbq seasoning, very tasty, my favourite

Corned beef - salty, shredded beef, cheese curds are rubbery, very cheesy, crisps stayed crispy not soggy, DH favourite

Skirt steak - beef chewy, garlicky, cooked rare to medium, least favourite of the three

Coastal eats

Crab cake (DH) - subtle fishy/salty taste, crisp slaw, avocado quite vinegary

Hawaii

Blonde bikini beer (DH) - light and citrusy, not usual type of blonde beer

Pork slider - definite taste of garlic and chilli, roll was soggy, meet was shredded and tender, enjoyed this one

Canada - 1 quick service credit used for 3 items

Cheddar and bacon soup - very cheesy! Smoky bacon flavour, very thick tastes more like a sauce than a soup. Didn’t really enjoy left more than half of it - wouldn’t recommend, although the pretzel roll was tasty

2 x Filet - tender, easy to cut with plastic cutlery, garlicky, cooked medium, pretty standard filet steak (maybe cooked more), good use of snack credit not so much if paying out of pocket (we enjoyed it also in 2016 but I think the price has gone up lots since then)

Belgium

Waffle with berry compote - waffle crisp on outside but light and fluffy on inside, berries tart and lots of them, really good

Pale ale (DH) - very hoppy, almost citrus/marmalade taste, not cloudy

On the way out we stopped off in Karamel Kuche - it’s a place I’ve been waiting to try for ages.

There was just one person serving the snacks so it took a long time to be served. I chose a caramel s’mores.

Had I been after something more sweet I would have chosen the cupcake which looked delicious..

The s’mores was really tasty, it was very sweet and I needed a good drink of water afterwards. There wasn’t a strong caramel taste, but I did enjoy it, and ate it whilst waiting for the bus.

We decided not to stay for Illuminations as we have another night scheduled in at Epcot and I am feeling quite tired.

I have lost track of manually tracking our credits, so here’s a screen shot of where we are.

Tomorrow is my birthday, and we have an ADR at Be Our Guest and will be eating out at our favourite Mannys tomorrow night.

I’m too tired right now to go back and check for spelling mistakes etc - sorry!

Thanks for reading

Almost everything you tried at f&w is on our list for next week - great to see reviews of them!

I have seen some not so good takes on the Canada filet so I’m pleased to see you enjoyed it. I think we will have to give it a go.

Hope you’re having a fab birthday

Happy Birthday - really enjoying reading along. Like how you are spending your days - might get DH to read as he is "over" going to Orlando but a trip like yours might just entice him back.
DS and I are traveling next May and have noted Teak as a new off site location for us to try.

Thanks for following along and for the birthday wishes

100% keep Polite Pig on your list it was great! I’m excited for Manny’s tonight, it’s one of our favourites. We have another evening planned at Food and Wine so hopefully some more ideas then.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! We make our holiday about compromise as much as possible, I love the parks and DH not so much so by splitting our days out we both have a fabulous trip. Hope you can convince your DH to come back. Definitely keep Teak on your to do list, it was great!

Day 5 - Magic Kingdom and Manny’s Chophouse

I woke up fairly early this morning and opened my birthday cards and a couple of small presents I had bought with me. We weren’t in any rush to get to Magic Kingdom as we had a 1.05pm ADR at Be Our Guest but since it opened at 7am we got ready and headed out.

The bus journey to Magic Kingdom was truly magical. Before the bus arrived a lady said to me she liked my outfit... this made me happy as if spent time co-ordinating my outfits to my ears and my bag (sounds sad but it was all part of the planning for me which I loved). When the bus arrived the driver didn’t speak but I knew he had clocked my birthday button. I wasn’t given it this trip but brought it with my from our 2016 one. Anyway, after everyone got on the bus a message played to say it was very a very special day as it was someone’s birthday.. once the message played the driver called out my name to wish me a happy birthday. The same lady who had commented on my outfit said it was also her birthday and another girl sitting next to us said it was hers too. So the bus driver got everyone on the bus to sing happy birthday to us. It was absolutely magical and really
made my day. The driver was great, he proceeded to tell Disney jokes all the way to the park. I wished I’d have got his name to give him a cast compliment but I did tell him on the way off the bus that he had made my day.

Anyway, into Magic Kingdom and we had our photo took with Mickey and Minnie... we haven’t met any characters before and we both found it rally awkward... typically as well the photos haven’t come through on PhotoPass so we went through all the awkwardness for nothing!

Onto food and we decided to head to Gaston’s Tavern for breakfast.

It wasn’t busy in there, we found a table and got served pretty quickly.

I ordered a cinnamon bun and a le fou’s brew using 2 snack credits. I asked for extra icing with the bun as if seen it be hit and miss with the amount of icing you get.

The bun was absolutely huge! We shared it and it easily filled us both up until lunch time. I’m glad we got the extra icing for it. I’m not the biggest fan of cinnamon, however, it wasn’t overpowering and DH thought some of the brown sticky icing on the top tasted a little like coffee.

I preferred the Le Fou’s brew when we had the first few sips with the mallowy topping on. Once that had gone it was fizzy apple juice and I wouldn’t rush to have it again.

We rode Seven Dwarfs, Barnstormer, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Philharmagic and had some photos took in front of the purple wall before heading down Main Street for some Starbucks drinks from Main Street Bakery.

DH had a salted caramel mocha frappe and I had a strawberry açai refresher. We had the biggest sizes since we were using a snack credit and they were really refreshing and lasted the duration of looking in all shops along Main Street.

We got a fastpass for Buzz Lightyear and I managed to score 12000 which was an improvement to 1200 on Friday!

It was time for our ADR at Be Our Guest. I’d read that it was beneficial to place your order before arriving so you can bypass the queue. We did this whilst waiting for the bus this morning.

DH chose the shrimp salad with a grapefruit beer and I chose the turkey sandwich with a refill drink. We also had a grey stuff cupcake.

We bypassed a large queue and used 2 quick service credits for our meals and a snack credit for the cupcake.

We grabbed our cutlery and my drink and found a clean table in the main ballroom.

I really should have ordered a beer for my drink too and gave it to DH as you could help yourself to soft drinks and no one checked what you had ordered. That’s a tip for anyone else visiting at lunch time.

It was very Canteen like in there, but it was nice to get out of the sunshine, and to have what felt like a table service meal too. We waited 25 for our food to come. I was going to give it 30 minutes before asking how long we should expect to wait, but it came out just before I got chance to ask.

DH had the shrimp salad and said it was nice, it tasted fresh. The salad was bitter tasting (vinegarette), and was crisp. He enjoyed it.

Apologies for the blurred photo of mine, I didn’t realise it had come out like that until it was too late. The turkey was pressed meat, there was a small amount of rocket on the sandwich. The ciabatta was fresh and nice and crispy. The fries were only lukewarm, but they were tasty. DH thought they tasted like McDonalds fries. I asked for some mayonnaise and ketchup and a server had to go away and bring them for me.

Next up was the grey stuff cupcake. It was extremely light, when I cut it in half it almost broke away. The sponge was really tasty, however, I didn’t really think the grey stuff topping had any taste apart from tasting like cream. I’m glad I got to try it but I’m not sure I’d use a snack credit on it again, as I think there are better options.

The grey stuff went down into the middle of the sponge..

I enjoyed Be Our Guest and if we had the dining plan I would definitely visit it. I wish I’d have booked breakfast there now to try it, but we don’t have any more mornings in Magic Kingdom Booker in now.

We left the park around 2.15pm (we check in 15 minutes early for BOG), and there was quite a long queue for the bus so we thought one would be along soon. However, we found out via a lady who called Disney to find out where our bus was that it had broken down, and we didn’t get back to the resort until 3pm.

By the time I had picked up my spirit jersey I bought yesterday from our resort shop as I had it shipped yesterday (the new Aqua one - I found it in my size in Epcot and used my birthday money to buy it) and FaceTimed my family at home it was getting on to 4pm. We were originally going to have a swim but decided to get ready and head back out to the shops before going to Manny’s.

We caught an Uber to the shops at Rolling Oak, then an Uber to Manny’s arriving around 6.45pm.

We were seated straight away in a booth. Here’s the menu, hope you can see it -

To drink DH ordered a draft Samuel Adams Oktoberfest which meant he qualified for the 2 for 1 drinks, and I ordered a strawberry daiquiri.

After we ordered we were brought out 3 warm bread rolls. The butter was distinctively cinnamon flavour and it was too overpowering for me but DH enjoyed it on two of the rolls. The rolls were very light and fluffy, we could have easily had more of these if we hadn’t got so much food on its way!

Manny’s is one of the meals we have most looked forward to since beginning weight watchers and we already knew we were going to ordered starters as well as mains.

We chose the buffalo wings with mild sauce and the potatoe skins. Here’s a close up from the menu -

I’m glad we ordered the mild sauce as I found it to be quite spicy. There were a good amount of wings for us to share, they were quite meaty, and we really enjoyed them.

DH liked the potato skins more than me, I thought they lacked flavour and I would have liked more bacon on them. The spring onion was a nice addition.

To my surprise, we finished off the bread and both the starters with no problem. In 2016 when we visited we had to box up the (boneless) wings and the skins to take home.. not this time!

Once we were done with the starters, our waitress brought over our salad.

This is it untossed...

And once she had tossed it...

I think she thought I was mad asking to take a Be for photo of the salad

My strawberry daiquiri went down nicely but I wanted something qwenching with my meal so I ordered a Diet Coke. DH was still getting though his two beers..

We didn’t wait an age for our mains, but just long enough for our starters to go down and for us to feel ready for them.

I ordered the sirloin with half a rack of ribs and DH ordered the sirloin with grilled shrimp, both with fries.

Here’s a close up from the menu -

The food was absolutely delicious. The steak was cooked just as we had asked (well done) and it was tender with a beautiful grilled taste. My ribs were equally as lovely, when I cut in between each bone i could tell the meat with tender but when I came to pick them up the bone fell away from the meat and I had to eat it with a knife and fork.

There wasn’t much room for either of us to eat many chips, but they were hot and tasty, we were just too full for them!

We skipped dessert even though I think I could have asked for a free brownie for my birthday and were brought the bill.

We left $90 and ordered our uber home.

I have had the perfect day, just the right amount of time in Magic Kingdom doing all of my favourite rides, we got to try Gaston’s Tavern and Be Our Guest, and I did some shopping (picked up some autumn bits of clothing, accessories and a few make up bits), and we ate in one of our favourite off site places. I couldn’t have asked for a better day and the Disney Magic this morning on the bus really was the icing on the cake.

Tomorrow we are heading to Hollywood Studios and we have a reservation at Oga’s Cantina and I was to try the num num cookie. I think the plan for early evening/evening is to head to Disney Springs.

Here’s a quick summary of where we are with our quick service and snack credits. I’m positive we will use our snack credits with no issue, and hopefully we can make a dent in the quick service credits when we visit Food and Wine again later this week.

Thanks for reading everyone and thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday!

Happy belated birthday! It sounds like a great day Manny's looks good, I have never been as we usually don't venture offsite but it does look very tempting!

It was magical.. I’ve never been on a bus like it before and this is our third time staying on site. It really did make my day and reminded me why I love staying on site so much!

Thank you! We first discovered Manny’s 3 years ago on our 2016 trip. We have been back in 2017 and 2018 as we love it so much. There were more tourists last night but it’s usually lots of locals so the atmosphere is great. We think it’s good value for money too. If you want to escape the bubble it’s a good one!
